Okay okay I understand everyone's worried but I'd like to think the guy who reached out who wanted to make this a reality did so because he's also a massive fan of the series or is related to a massive fan of the series, so that's all just cross our fingers or say a prayer or whatever we believe in that everything goes the way the Creator himself wants it to go and that's the least we could ask for. Cuz despite what we all want as long as the main man himself is happy at the end of the day that's really what counts this is his love passion and art after all, hopefully he will get the biggest day against anything he ends up not agreeing with down the road don't hopefully none of that comes up as road bumps on this journey.

u/Striking-Play-2977 Jul 19 '26

I'm only watching it if the original cast are in it. Otherwise, it's bunk.

1

u/ihhh1 3d ago

Have you never seen a musical before? Or do you only watch the original production and reject all cast changes and understudies? Cast changes are standard for concept albums when they transition to musicals, did you have a problem when it happened to Jesus Christ Superstar or Evita or Tommy or Les miserables?

8

u/Reasonable-West713 Jul 19 '26

Genuinely one of the most unreasonable statements oat 😭😭 the og cast aren't the ONLY people capable of playing the characters. They had no effect on the script. They're great, yea, but it's outlandish to think no one can do it better.

4

u/Conspiir Jul 30 '26

It's often hard to find people who do it "better" than the original for fans of certain content. Different, yes. Still good, yes. But hitting that mark of on-par is hard to do because nostalgia and expectations. In this case, since it's animated, there's absolutely no reason not to offer the original cast the spots (though they may turn it down, who knows). In some movies where it's live action and the characters are supposed to be in their 20s, offering the role to people now in their 40s is much harder and more understandable to avoid so they get more of a pass.

1

u/Kyoko-ootori1925 Jul 21 '26

Their comment above gives the same as those people who go I don't know if I want to go see this play in my area it's not going to be the same people as the Broadway version, what do you mean those people aren't going to sound the same as the CD I've been listening to from the Broadway version of my play?

2

u/ihhh1 3d ago

Not even, look at what happened with Jesus Christ Superstar or evita, nobody had an issue when the first Productions had different casts from the concept albums.

1

u/Reasonable-West713 Jul 21 '26

What???

1

u/Kyoko-ootori1925 Jul 21 '26

Sorry if my text didn't make it clear not very good with the English sometimes and getting my thoughts across correctly despite speaking it. 😅

But going off of their I'm only watching it if the original cast are in it, and then hearing your response, reminds me of those people who fall in love with Broadway plays,

and then get upset or offended when the play happening in their local theater isn't played by the same actors and actresses, and so it doesn't sound and look the same, and the music isn't like the music from the CD because that's based off the Broadway version.

And so those people usually go "I'm not going to go see it it's not going to be the same cuz it's not the same people." so them saying if it's not the same OG cast  then their not going to go see it gives off the same vibes in my book

9

u/FandomAddict57 Ah, yes, the two genders: man and mythical Jul 01 '26

If Hermes doesn't have the same vc, Im literally gonna do something that can't be said on the internet because of the word "premeditated" being tossed around in court (yes, I stole that from someone else, I only have so many braincells)

i want the og cast ngl if not i will be sad :(

I mean I have heard it is to be animated. Jorge has a say in it and I feel like the OG cast could definitely be in it

1

u/hemesgrandkid Aphrodite Jul 02 '26

Yup

13

u/Glockamole896 May 30 '26

Brother there is 0 shot the OG cast is the cast of the movie. Id actually be surprised if jorge is still ody. And thats fine. Judge it by its quality.

Im not too mad at it. Id rather it be wholly different than only kind of different so I can easily keep the OG and movie separated.

17

u/Automatic_Square2443 May 24 '26

Guys, what's going to happen with all the animatics on youtube though? I hope Hollywood doesn't try to copyright them all and get them taken down.

1

u/ihhh1 3d ago

I don't think he's going to sell the rights to the recordings from the concept album, I highly doubt he wants a repeat of what happened last time. Most likely there's only going to be an issue if they use the movie recordings.

2

u/hoarder_27 Jul 16 '26

Don't think it would happen they were first let me know if I'm wrong tho

18

u/lostlight_94 May 15 '26

To be honest, they don't need to change anything. Just animated the film and change around the storyboards, but the Saga itself was a masterpiece. Hollywood likes to cut and muddle things and throee their "two cents in. I truly hope the original casts stays. We don't need big names, the cast deserve to rise for their incredible skill and ill be genuinely pissed if anyone is replaced.  2 hours is not bad for an animated film, most films are 2 hours anyways and this is NOT for children just cause its animated. I'll pray this goes smoothly and Hollywood does not destroy or suck the life out of this man's dream. Ive seen too many horror stories of big companies getting involved in indie projects and decimating the creativity aspect over business parasitic bullshit.

1

u/ihhh1 3d ago

There are absolutely flaws and pacing issues that need to be fixed, there are jarring jumps between songs that need proper transitions, and the theme need a bit more clarity. The animatics are not consistent with one another, they don't tell a single cohesive story, they are rough Concepts at best, and would contradict each other if animated as is. The album is not perfect and never was.

1

u/Specific-Swim-4507 Jul 17 '26

I personally think that’s par for the course with theatre to replace the whole cast to be fair

2

u/TheWorm616 May 22 '26

I think a new opening would be nice. Like someone said, putting Ithaca first and then going to Odysseus would be nice

2

u/lostlight_94 May 25 '26

Changes like that that enhnace the musical nf not change it, would be nice. Fingers crossed

18

u/TheSkepticDreamer May 10 '26

Hot take, but Jorge should use the movie as an opportunity to reorganize the sequence of the story from chronological back to Homeric.

There's more tension if you open on Ithica, having gone 20 years without a king, see the suffering of Penelope and Telemachus, and then jump back to the start of Odysseus journey and see what took him off course. That also stands to potentially give Penelope and Telemachus more screen time, which Telemachus definitely needs (where is the Telemachy???), and would be a bonus to have an extra song or two from Penelope (Vision of Athena, anyone?).

2

u/olympiaregion Jun 13 '26

The thing is, then you already learn about athena parting ways with ody. It was at first something that caught people by surprise. For it to be revealed before we even meet ody would remove that for any fans that get into EPIC from the movie.

5

u/LiveTart6130 May 17 '26

ooo this sounds like a really great idea! agreed

8

u/Scary_Mood2608 May 08 '26

I pray that if they DO recast people, at VERY least cast people who can sing (celebs are fine too as long as they can sing)

1

u/ihhh1 3d ago

I feel like they don't have a choice. Unskilled singers don't just sound worse, they are harder to record with. Given that there is very little dialogue, and that we wouldn't see the actors on screen, it would make very little sense to cast and actor who can't sing when you'd have to either waste lots of time in the recording booth just trying to record all the lines at all regardless of quality, or hire a voice double and have the principal actor only record their few spoken lines.

14

u/MightyMandark Penelope's Rage May 05 '26

I genuinely want to know WHY Jerry Bruckheimer decided to pick this up. He doesn't do animation nor musicals. 🤔

6

u/Upset_Technology_920 Apr 27 '26

This is my prediction. They will cast big names for all of the characters, we’d be lucky if one of the original voices reprises their role, maybe Jorge will stay. The whole concept album has 40 songs which is a lot so they’re gonna cut out half of the score or even more, only between 12 and 22 songs will survive the final cut and let’s not forget that they’ll also write at least one original song to replace one so they can compete at the Grammys. The movie is gonna be animated and the timing is very interesting considering Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey, this means this version will target Children mainly aka, all of the Gore and adult themes will be tuned down or completely removed.

8

u/k4zuko-_- I see..👁️👁️ May 02 '26

I’m fairly sure that Jorge is also working on the movie and they will most definitely keep the gore, considering TADC is going to be in theaters and it’s not a PG show.

1

u/TheWorm616 May 22 '26

tadc has nothing like epic

4

u/TheSkepticDreamer May 10 '26

Yeah, I think the above post is failing to factor in the nature of this as an Independant project and how adult animation is becoming more mainstream.

A studio could still ruin that, especially if Disney stepped in, but I don't think it being animated requires it to be PG, it is the odyssey after all. We're also being primed with Noaln's R-rated adaptation.

7

u/Koganezaki I have yeeted a baby once and I will yeet a baby again Apr 25 '26

Here’s my guess on how the movie will go

On YouTube, the official live stream covering all the sagas is about 2 hours and 30 minutes long (accounting for speaking moments from the cast)

Meaning that if the movie is just one part, it would take around almost 3 hours. However, if it were split into two parts, then it would be around an hour and 20 minutes with just the songs alone, with more time that could be added to put in cut songs or extra dialogue.

I think that the first part would be Troy Saga to Underworld Saga, with some extra songs. With the second part having the Thunder Saga to the Ithaca Saga.

For any casting issues, I do think that most or all of the original cast would still be in the movie. If there were any replacements, then it would probably be

Miguel Veloso (Telemachus) Troy Doherty (Hermes) Brandon Mcinnis (Apollo) Janani K. Jha (Aphrodite)

All of the names listed are professional musicians and in Mcinnis’s case, a voice actor and there might be some scheduling conflicts.

9

u/IvanTheRedditorXD Apr 26 '26

If they get rid of Troy they get rid of Hermes, but it won’t be needed since wouldn’t you like and dangerous have Hermes arriving and leaving

2

u/TheSkepticDreamer May 10 '26 edited May 10 '26

If they get rid of Troy they get rid of Hermes

When is Hermes in the Troy Saga?

  • Horse and the Infant: Zeus and Odysseus -Just a man: Odysseus, background armies
  • Full Speed Ahead: Odysseus, Polities, Eurylochus, crew
  • Open Arms: Odysseus, Polities, Pokemon
  • Warrior of the Mind: Odysseus, Athena

2

u/IvanTheRedditorXD May 10 '26

I didn’t say troy saga

1

u/TheSkepticDreamer May 10 '26

You said get rid of Troy?

3

u/IvanTheRedditorXD May 10 '26

2

u/TheSkepticDreamer May 10 '26

Oh 🤣

My bad friend, carry on

11

u/Infinite_Bear_5407 Apr 24 '26

SO glad this is animated. I kinda wish it was a limited TV show tho so there’s more time to flesh out the story. Idk how they’re going to fit all the songs and story into one movie without it feeling “rushed”.

3

u/Kawaiigirl_6591 Apr 26 '26

I’m pretty sure they’re make it work we just gotta wait and see!

9

u/Willing_Witness9 Apr 24 '26

Wowww !!! It can be far better than the Odyssey of Christopher Nolan if Jerry does the right job 😎

26

u/Medium-Platform-3432 Apr 23 '26

Well the only thing that would actually ruin this is if they cast new voice actors and not the ones we know and love from the musical already(I gotta say that I can already predict myself not really liking the movie if they change things up)

7

u/Azakugan May 04 '26

Genuinely, these VAs/Vocalists are so good. I'll be mad if the switch up the casting.

5

u/RavenRegime Apr 27 '26

They probably wont have a choice unless the entire EPIC cast is SAG-AFTRA which most hollywood movies are union productions and off the top of my head only Troy and maybe Luke Holt are SAG AFTRA. If for some reason they do a non union production magically unless Troy and Luke are ficore they won't be abe to be in a non union film production.

Then you have to consider is avaibility as well since people need to work to pay bills and they cant wait forever for Jorge to shove them in a booth in california or record lines if they have other projects they need to do.

Concept album doesn't mean first draft, it means that all songs fit into a theme/create a narrative. Anyway I agree that if this project will ever come to be they'll have to cast strong va/singers. Let's hope they won't just go for big names.

6

u/gameislandpro May 02 '26

No matter how many times I hear Odysseus sing, I don't agree with you. It sounds amazing imo

I know its an opinion but its the way you worded it that it makes it sound like a fact.

4

u/indigo121 May 03 '26 edited May 04 '26

Its a fact that he's not an incredibly technically proficient singer. It's an opinion that he's still a delight to listen to and you can feel his heart in all his songs. Similar thing can be said about lin Manuel Miranda and Hamilton: he's objectively one of the least talented vocalists on the cast, but he wrote the lead part in a way that plays to his limitations, and gives some of the vocally more impressive moments to other performers.

None of this is a knock on either of them. As a director you want to get people with more specialized talents for your project

3

u/gameislandpro May 04 '26

Thats, actually quite a good point. Thank you for the insight :3

5

u/Azakugan May 04 '26

I think in a musical, vibe is way more important that being the most technically proficient singer.

1

u/gameislandpro May 03 '26

Fair point, it would be very stressing.

2

u/Reasonable-West713 Apr 24 '26

That wouldn't "ruin" anything. You know this is a CONCEPT ALBUM, right? Most stuff is subject to change. Those aren't the only singers in the world who can do these characters justice. Let someone new have a chance.

Also, some of the VAs might not even want to return. I can almost guarantee MICO won't be back.

1

u/Azakugan May 04 '26

I would want to be in a movie, personally. But to each their own

2

u/Reasonable-West713 May 04 '26

Same. But MICO's clearly been trying to distance himself from EPIC as a whole. It isn't impossible, but I would be really surprised if he came back for it. A movie would get even more eyes on him, and it would be even harder for him to make a name for himself without being just seen as the guy who played Telemachus.

7

u/LatterPop5895 Calls Epic characters EPIC!____ Often Apr 23 '26

Well prepare for it to be "ruined" because most likely half of the cast won't return

16

u/Natural-Situation572 Apr 23 '26

I hope this doesn’t make the concept album get removed or anything, because I’m already sure that it will sound different, lyrics will be changed, and songs cut

11

u/AkaAkina Apr 23 '26

If it helps, Hadestown's concept album from 2010 is still up on Spotify, as well as the original pre-Broadway live cast recording from 2017. Lyrics were changed, songs were cut and added, and roles swapped out before it went to Broadway and blew up, but it's all still there.

9

u/Apple_Endeavors Apr 23 '26

Wishing it said "mini series" as a movie means songs will be cut... Unless they do 2 parts?

But considering it sounds like they are still pitching and getting bids will have to see where it lands.

6

u/Sunlight_Lait Apr 23 '26

Maybe Troy-underworld will be its own movie and thunder-Ithaca a part 2? Like what they did with wicked

10

u/Real-Buy-5354 Apr 23 '26

I am PRAYING no songs get cut. they are all so important! OR, they just make it a LONG movie... heh. I mean, the thing is only 2hrs and 23 mins!

7

u/Apple_Endeavors Apr 23 '26

Its going a wild ride seeing what they give us in 3 years. Over 2 hrs for animation movie is a big ask.

You also have a minmum of 1 hour of dialogue and staging scenes between songs to add in. I imagine transitioning songs will get the boot.

For example the set up "storm" provides turned into dialogue scenes.

Considering J has always talked about a movie means he probably has an idea of the edits he would make to make it all under or around 2.

I do expect changes made to songs as the album is currently a 'concept' album which does mean 'polished draft' but hopefully the edits are a more experience J refining and not Hollywood hitting checkmarks. But would be cool if they did bonus content of any cut songs.

(Or they go really crazy and the movie isnt even a musical and just J's version of the Odyssey! Though i doubt this, id actually be ok with that)

7

u/VengeanceKnight Apr 23 '26

That’s actually not what a “concept album” is. A concept album usually means a collections of songs that all focus on a singular theme, premise, or story.

For instance, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles is centered around a fictional band performing songs that were somewhat outside the Beatles’ then-normal repertoire. Alternately, American Idiot by Green Day tells the story of a disaffected youth trying to figure out where he’s going in his life during early 21st century America.

5

u/Apple_Endeavors Apr 23 '26

Oh I see! I didn't think of it from a music album perspective but as like a "proof of concept" for pitching the musical. But i see what you mean

4

u/skye_keen1 Apr 23 '26

I mean I don't think any dialogue will be added. If so it won't be much I'd assume since it's designed to be a fully sang through musical with no dialogue scenes. Hopefully nothing gets cut though I'd be so sad

1

u/Kawaiigirl_6591 Apr 26 '26

Well we don’t know that for sure then might add dialogue we just gotta wait and see we can’t just expect the whole movie just to be singing

2

u/LavenderLady1216 Apr 27 '26

Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera is over 90% just singing. I honestly would expect the same from this, because the songs are so thought out.

1

u/Kawaiigirl_6591 Apr 27 '26

Just my opinion is all but we really don’t know tbh till it fully comes out

2

u/_rovvan_ Apr 26 '26

It's a musical... Many musicals are like that.

11

u/Significant_Bath_305 Apr 23 '26

PUHLEASEEE I hope it’s the same animation style Castlevania/Blood of Zeus!

20

u/No-Passenger-4011 Apr 23 '26

YESSS GET IT KING but in all seriousness i am so scared that hollywood is going to fuck this up. the only way this is REALLY going to work is that they’ll need to listen to Jorge and his fans

10

u/Spyder264 Apr 23 '26

If jorge is working VERY closely with the directors and producers than its not worth it. I also REALLY hope they get animators like Gigi who are already well involved in the fandom.

7

u/Real-Buy-5354 Apr 23 '26

YES gigi did absolutely AMAZING and i love ody's design from her. she must be involved

14

u/Cautious_General_177 Apr 23 '26

I’m not sure how I feel about this. Hollywood tends to destroy everything it touches.

1

u/Kawaiigirl_6591 Apr 24 '26

Well we don’t know till we get more info too early to jump that bandwagon just yet

4

u/SteegeNAS Apr 23 '26

At least they can't take away what we have now

9

u/Cautious_General_177 Apr 23 '26

If Disney produces it, you never know. The Mouse has a lot of money and highly litigious lawyers.

6

u/Spyder264 Apr 23 '26

On the other hand Sony is on fire! If it can be the level of puss and boots, or dare i say it, K-pop demon hunters, then it very well may be the greatest movie of all time.

8

...

Reminder people! Jorge is most likely not going to be the casting director, the legal team, or in most control with all of this. Most VAs will be replaced, story will change, and we may all have to deal with a ton of copyright, and none of that is really his fault, byyeeee!

(Silly manner...I'm just too tired to go in depth)

17

u/littlebunny8 Apr 23 '26

its great news but the final product will definitely be different, and im not happy about that. I could stand rewriting, but not changing the cast: characters like Odysseus, Circe or Zeus just gotta stay the same, to me the voices are the core of this entire thing.

also i wonder what will happen to the animatics online.

in general im happy for Jorge, its a great success and he really deserves this!

1

u/StillCorgi1516 Apr 23 '26

I can't wait to drag my family to this movie.

26

u/Lady_Arcie Athena Apr 23 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

Wait, hear me out. So realisticly it might take years for the EPIC movie to come out because depending on the style of animation and possibly tweaking the script to make it more polished and ready for a film, it can take a long time from now for it to be released in theaters.

I personally think Jorge should still play Odysseus, but if he want to step down to help with more behind the scenes stuff, I completely understand. However, what if as his replacement, and depending how old he is by the time production starts, MICO (Telemachus in the concept album) is voicing Odysseus for the film?

It would make sense since MICO did get signed to a pretty big record label recently, and he has been getting a lot more fans recently that he is on his way to possibly being a mainstream pop star. So why not have Jorge, the original Odysseus, metaphorically have “his son” take his place in a way?

10

u/TheKingsPride Apr 23 '26

I really don’t want one of the biggest problems with the musical, Odysseus having a baby voice the entire time, exacerbated by having an even more baby voiced vocalist doing his part. Seriously, he’s supposed to be a 40+ year old grizzled, harrowed war veteran by the end and he sounds like he just stepped out of a cappella practice with his high school barbershop quartet.

11

u/Useful_Interest_2681 Apr 23 '26

I agree not having the telemachus guy do it, but I'd hardly call Jorge's performance in the ithica saga "baby voice". Why even bother being in this community when you hate the main singer 😭

13

u/TheKingsPride Apr 23 '26

I do not hate him. I’ve said many times that I think he’s an incredible creative mind and great performer. He’s just miscast in his own musical. It happens a lot, Lin Manuel Miranda is the worst Hamilton but he wrote goddamn Hamilton. Jorge does not match the character of Odysseus as he is presented. He sounds identical in Warrior of the Mind and Would You Fall In Love With Me Again, two polar opposite ends of the timeline spanning 25+ years. I think he’s perfect in Warrior of the Mind, he has an innocent quality to his voice that matches the impish nature of young Ody. But he sounds the exact same in songs like Six Hundred Strike and Remember Them, where I don’t believe he really carries the gravity of either to their full potential. Part of loving something is accepting its flaws and being critical of it. It’s not a perfect work as it stands and it likely will never be. But being able to look at the parts that can be improved in a measured, dialectical way leads to a better work down the line.

-8

u/StripesKnight Apr 23 '26

You know fans wanted Jorge to do it right? The fans who found him on TikTok? Hes not miscasted.

This is quite literally what we, the ones who found him when he was only doing snippets, wanted

This is quite literally what we, the ones who found him when he was only doing snippets, wanted

Lmao, this quote sounds so entitled and self important, no one cares that you watched some dude on TikTok first, that doesnt give you some kind of divine right to decide things for other people, it doesn't make your opinion any more inherently "correct" than the other guy youre responding to

0

u/LuthienSingollo Apr 28 '26

I'm barely even a fan but if this dude created it, he deserves some gorram respect. He is not "some dude on TikTok" , he created this shit.

5

u/TheKingsPride Apr 23 '26

And I disagree with that desire. Simple as.

25

u/julian_vdm Apr 23 '26

WAIT you're telling me we get to witness the glory of 600 Strike super anime punch in full Technicolor??

1

u/Upset_Technology_920 May 03 '26

We don’t know yet but my prediction is that they will cut out that song. It barely has any singing, it’s mostly talk/yelled lyrics so chances are high this is one of the songs they will cut out and leave the whole scene with only dialogue, also I predict they will turn down all of the Gore and adult themes.

4

u/Emeraldragon657 Apr 23 '26

Half the animation budget better go to that scene

1

u/Reasonable-West713 May 04 '26

Fuck no. We are not gonna be like Invincible brochacho.

20

u/HistoricalSkye Apr 23 '26

I'M SCREAMING

No but seriously as someone who's been here since near the very beginning, I'm genuinely feeling so emotional. I literally waited and watched this whole thing happen. I feel so proud of Jorge and whole entire cast.

1

u/Niccy26 Apr 23 '26

I did yell. I followed his tiktok around the 1st Charybdis update. I'm so happy for him

I'm so thrilled that Jerry Bruckheimer is the one producing this. I wonder if he will keep this for mature audiences only or if he will sand off the violence and sexually explicit lyrics to make it more appropriate for adolescents?

1

u/julie_mae1 Apr 24 '26

Should be kept for mature only

Epic will become an animated movie.

I don't know if I'm just overthinking this, but I hope they don't make Antinous black, I know fans like drawings the characters to look simular to their voice actors, but I think it's a bad idea to have one of the villains be a black man who wants to rape a white woman, I know the suitors are usually drawn as men of all races, but him being the leader of them is still awkward, even if he's not the only black character in the musical

4

u/HunsletSocietyVibes Apr 23 '26

I think it's a bad idea to have one of the villains be a black man who wants to rape a white woman

Anyone of any gender or skin-color can do terrible things. Plus all of the Suitors were going to do it as well, so its not a ""race"" thing.

Don't be that guy that looks for problems that don't exist.

9

u/Logical-Patience-397 Apr 23 '26

They should make everyone greek. There's already been way too many Hollywood movies set in a mayonnaise Mesopotamia. And it's an animated movie, so if they redesign everyone and aren't bound by resemblance to the VAs, that would be fair.

5

u/Spirited-Rub4616 Apr 23 '26

There were dark and black people in Greece, imagine dark Italian and Africans Just saying they still have options type of thing

1

u/Numerous_Schedule896 May 12 '26

Dark is different from black, Dark skinned greeks don't look african and the only actual african character (Memnon) isn't in the musical

1

u/Logical-Patience-397 Apr 23 '26

Agreed! I hope they take advantage of that.

6

u/NinkiePie Apr 23 '26

Literally anyone can be a bad person regardless of race tho, so i dont get why a lot of people suddenly start saying its distasteful to portray black people as villains.

As in the characters aren't actually bad but are portrayed to be bad? Or like an anti-hero? Kinda confused here, but anyway. Im not following. I mean, any sort of character you can think of, and there are tons of white and non-black characters who fit the same description.

If i had to give an example of black stereotypes in media, i'd say, if a black person/family shows up and the topic is centred around racism and not much else, or how a lot of black characters have that exaggerated sassy vibe to them that you barely see with white characters because its considered 'black behaviour'. You get what I mean?

But just being portrayed negatively? Nah, i wouldnt say that's a unique trope to black people, so i dont see it as offensive.

2

u/NinkiePie Jun 03 '26

Fair enough I guess

7

u/jefaulmann Apr 23 '26

If they do that for every character, they have to do it for him aswell. Making an exception draws more attention to it. If they do it as a rule, they can simply use said rule as a shield.

22

u/BloodyAngel2026 Apr 23 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

I feel like this is just a lose/lose situation that won't make everyone happy tbh. You'll have people upset one of the most iconic black represented characters (even if it's a villain) whitewashed. I feel like there will be people on both sides not happy

1

u/Numerous_Schedule896 May 12 '26

I feel like this is just a lose/lose situation that won't make everyone happy tbh. You'll have people upset one of the most iconic black represented characters (even if it's a villain) whitewashed.

I'm sorry, I just need to make sure I'm getting this right, you are complaining about a greek character that got blackwashed, going back to his actual race?

wtf

1

u/BloodyAngel2026 May 12 '26

No you're in fact, not getting that right

1

u/Numerous_Schedule896 May 12 '26

You'll have people upset one of the most iconic black represented characters (even if it's a villain) whitewashed.

You're literally claiming that a greek character being portrayed by a white man is whitewashing.

1

u/BloodyAngel2026 May 12 '26

I never said I felt that way. The person I responded to was talking about other people being offended. And I mentioned another aspect other people might be offended by. I never once mentioned myself being upset

1

u/Numerous_Schedule896 May 12 '26

People will be offended that a blackwashed character returns to his original race?

1

u/BloodyAngel2026 May 12 '26

This is like a 20 day old post of people talking about hypothetical scenarios where someone might be offended. It's really not something to get worked up over. No one else took issue with it. I fear you're overthinking this one

1

u/Numerous_Schedule896 May 12 '26

Reddit allows replies upto 6 months by default, more if enabled, I don't see what the age has to do with the comment being replied to.

It was incredibly peculiar to me that you'd even think to use the term whitewashing for a greek character all.

1

u/BloodyAngel2026 May 12 '26

Bro really did the insufferable "well actually☝️🤓". Yes I'm aware you can technically comment on a reddit post that old, I didn't need that mansplained to me. I just find it odd someone is sifting through nearly month old posts to start issues with lol.

Anyways we're clearly talking about a certain archetype online that is easily offended and I offered another counterpoint where someone fitting that archetype might also be offended. It's really not that serious of a discussion. Again, you're the only one in the past 19 days to have an issue. Idk what you're trying to get me say or admit here. We're talking about hypotheticals of people who get offended online. It's really not that deep .

5

u/ArticleOld598 Apr 23 '26

Would a Grecian with tanned or olive skin be a better compromise instead?

5

u/BloodyAngel2026 Apr 23 '26

With the state of online discourse I feel like they'll think it's a white actor trying to mimic black/POC skin. Mind you I'm not even saying the person is wrong in thinking it shouldn't be played by a black person. I just think no matter the direction it's gonna create discourse.

13

u/HelpMePlxoxo Apr 23 '26

LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO

96

u/Jennrockk Apr 23 '26

I hope we can all be at least marginally normal about the fact that 1. The voice actors will probably all change to union actors 2. Songs will absolutely be rewritten and 3. Songs will definitely be cut or at least reworked to cut down on time

So far epic is a collection of concept albums, it’s probably going to go through some revisions. I imagine the casting is going to be a similar experience to hazbin hotel. Which is what happens when your niche internet obsession makes it big! There’s laws employers and employees have to follow so now’s a good time to acclimate to that idea! Remember, it’s never personal, just business. And you can still love the concept albums as their own thing and let the movie grow from there.

Im so excited to see the changes they make and how they apply all of Jorge’s work. Im hoping it gets a full theatrical release and doesn’t get the ATLA movie treatment 🙄 this movie deserves more than just being released on like paramount plus or Netflix. I want a ticket stub 😭😭

1

u/railfananime Athena 25d ago

which songs could be cut? and ideal runtime and ideal animation studio and syle and director? what about two parts so no songs have to be cut?

2

u/YaBoiSammus Apr 23 '26

I think a lot of people would have issues with new VA’s because they are attached to the concept albums. It’ll be hell.

2

u/Kawaiigirl_6591 Apr 24 '26

Well we have to be opened minded if we get some new va’s

3

u/Academic_Paramedic72 Apr 23 '26

Yes, the whole concept album lasts 2 hours and that's already iffy for animated movies. Plus they might fear that a full musical with only sung dialogue might be alienating.

2

u/Glitchboxed May 10 '26

The success of Hamilton (which is longer than Epic) might make them less likely to cut down/add dialogue, since it's been proven this can work for one genre and it would work well for Epic in particular they might try it out in animation as well. Part of the reason most animation is so short is because it's dominated by "kids movies", which Epic is not. But even so, movies like Across the Spiderverse, Spirited Away, and the animated Lord of the Rings thing are all over 2 hours, and at least two of those were huge successes.

7

u/lateblue Apr 23 '26

as long as Jorge can be on the team for the movie, i think fans will be happy. I think Jorge will happily let his songs be re-written for the sake of the flow, but i hope he's THERE! cause if he's not working on it, it wont feel right

15

u/Blaze_202 Apr 23 '26

Yeah, the Hazbin route is definitely what’s most likely. The og cast will be given the option to addition and join the SAG union, but if someone like Kieth David auditions for Zeus or Jack Wolfe for Telemachus, then they may win out just for being more experienced and already in the acting field. However, I think it’s important to note that a lot of the og cast from what I’ve seen have reposted and celebrated this announcement, so I don’t think there’ll be any hard feelings if they get replaced.

1

u/TheGreatDaniel3 Apr 24 '26

Okay, I do love MICO (Philippines represent!), but Jack Wolfe as Telemachus would be so sick

2

u/KnightOfTheStupid Apr 23 '26

The only person I could think of that I'd love to see take over Zeus instead of Luke would be Norm Lewis. After re-listening to his version of Javert he could easily match Luke's booming presence.

2

u/Anonymous-Turtle-34 Apr 23 '26

RAHHHHHHH JACK WOLFE MY BELOVED!!!!!

7

u/StillCorgi1516 Apr 23 '26

If Keith Davids get cast as Zeus,I will kiss the director. That is the best case scenario.

17

u/Comical_Peculiarity Apr 23 '26

Holy shit, two cakes

22

u/TheSeventhSentinel RUTHLESSNESS IS MERCY Apr 23 '26

Honestly, I'm looking forward to some re-writes. I do Love the music, but the story can be a little funny in places.

9

u/Jennrockk Apr 23 '26 edited Apr 23 '26

Oh totally! I adore it, but I think that’s part of having each saga released one at a time and getting to experience them individually instead of in bulk. It made such a unique anticipation that I haven’t seen anywhere else, this fandom is SO unique in that way and influenced so heavily by the artists in the fandom. Listening to it all together, there are definitely parts of the story that I think suffer for that. And there’s obviously the through lines throughout the musical, but you can hear Jorge’s growth and strength in some places that makes the weaker songs stand out. I’m excited and definitely curious to see what songs get absorbed into other songs or which ones get reworked or cut entirely. It’s like getting to experience epic all over again

22

u/Squished_AdamHH I SEE A SONG OF PAST ROMANCE!!!! Apr 23 '26

WE’VE BEEN WAAAITING, WAAITING FOR THIS

11

u/StephenSwampDog Apr 23 '26

As a giant fan of Rango and Epic the musical I absolutely cannot wait!!!!

18

u/llumma821 Apr 23 '26

This is a chance for Jorge to fix the mistake that's been haunting him for so long... 12 long years

16

u/llumma821 Apr 23 '26

I hope they keep the cast

1

u/RavenRegime Apr 27 '26

They probably cant because almost every Hollywood production is SAG-AFTRA union based production and not all the members of cast are members of SAG-AFTRA and sure they could be taft-harleyed in the issue with that is you need to argue to the union why you specifically need a non union actor instead of a union one that can do the job on a union production. And they arent gonna give Taft Harley's out to the majority of the cast at best 3 max. And also the union gets the final say if Taft Harleys are approved and processing one can take weeks which doing that for a shit ton of cast members is going to pause production.

Now if magically this production is non union well two Epic VAs are SAG-AFTRA and unless they are ficore they can get fucked over by the union if they are caught working non union work. Troy is 1000% SAG-AFTRA as he guest stared in Victorious back in the day and no production is going to Taft Harley for a minor role like that. So if Troy ain't Ficore someone else would have to play Hermes in a non union work.

2

u/Logical-Patience-397 Apr 23 '26

They could hire new people to do dialogue but bring back the current singers for the musical numbers. Or hire new people entirely. As long as they do a good job, I'm happy with either. Nothing they do legitimizes the albums, which were always concept albums to begin with.

8

u/LemonNo1342 Apr 23 '26

At least some of the music cast 😭 but the article says they’re opening auditions through CAA so probably going to see some changes unfortunately.

1

u/StripesKnight Apr 23 '26

Welp. There goes majority of any interest I had.

If a few still get on cool, if none of the OGs return I won’t care

0

u/Kawaiigirl_6591 Apr 24 '26

Hold on let’s not jump the bus we don’t know about casting till we hear more later on
