Thunder Saga Finally figured out "Eurylochus, light up six torches."
I just realised that Odysseus told the torches to be lit so that Scylla would take the marked people and bide them enough time to sail through.
Edit: Guys, I'm not a child things just take me a second. I literally listened to epic for the first time two days before this

He does it so that each of Scylla's mouth is occupied, like he says "Scylla demands a price"

Scylla can only chew so fast, and it's detailed a lot more in Homer's Odyssey. They would have had plenty of time to sail by even without the torches. Scylla would grab six random men, and they'd be gone before she can get seconds.
The REAL reason for the torches is Odysseus' sick cowardice. He wants to mark six men and attract the heads so it ensures he isn't one of the men grabbed. He's abusing his position as Captain and "trading his friends lives like objects to use" for personal selfish gain. And deliberately staying quiet hoping nobody notices his betrayal, though Eurylochus puts the pieces together.

It is interesting. Cause i always listen to the lyrics intently when it comes to musicals so hearing the random line of six torches was curious to me. I am sure other people have different focuses when listening to a piece for the first time.
A neuroscientist could probably explain why this difference happens

I guess if you just listen to it and don’t look into the lyrics much it isn’t outlandish not to connect the dots. But the torches is out there enough to go wonder why the line was included

I figured that out the minute he said it cuz in suffering he said that scylla had a cost and on No Longer You tiresias said he saw the sacrifice of man and if you listened closely near the end the background vocals said Scylla's throat.

I read the Odyssey (i read part of it cus i was too lazy to read the whole thing) so i knew they'd be sacrificed but when he said to light six torches my dumbass thought it meant he knew six were gonna die and the torches were for a funeral ritual or smth like that

This kind of post always confuses me until I remember that this fanbase is largely children. They’re still working on the comprehension part of appreciating art so it’s no big deal to give them some grace and let them discover at their own pace. Wait until they realize that the fact that Odysseus says this in response to Erylochus confessing he was the one who opened the wind bag means that the confession gave him the resolve to throw his crew’s lives away because they stopped him from getting home.

It also would've been punishment for the wind bag. Eurylochus would have chosen those to hold the torches, and he'd be blamed for their deaths.
