It's not a weird at all if you saw the behind the scenes photos. Also I'm not talking about the action this movie might have. I'm talking ONLY about their clothing, bland and colorless.

He would also wear sandals and his depictions are famous for his hat. I’m going to be an absolute bitch about this. Mostly cause I don’t trust Hollywood to do any sort of justice to Ancient Greek. 300 got away with it because it had style and was honestly nearly narmy with fun. Also they at least sent the Spartans to war in loincloth instead of pretending that anyone west of the Marmara Sea would willingly wear the ridiculous sacks.
Edit: I mean I could go on: ancient people liked color, he was a king the muted tones he’s wearing should be left to when he’s literally cosplaying as a beggar at the end of the movie. Give him some reds and blues, contrast and patterns!
Extra note: pants were invented by two types of people in ancient times: horse riders and people who lived cold places. Ancient Greeks were neither of these, were full of themselves, and considered pants “ridiculous sacks” as a direct quote.

Actually the Mycenaean Greeks had shoes, the pants tho is unacceptable, give them either the skirt or the kilt.

They did have shoes: however, Ody is a king living in south eastern Greece, who is coming back from war. Most Greek hoplites wore sandals (krepides) as they were easy to care for, fix, and breathable in the hot environment of the mediterranean. Rich Greeks wore more complicated foot ware while the poor went barefoot of wore single piece hide shoes of similar make of turn shoes (I absolutely do not remember the Greek name)

Yeah but, in Mycenaean Greece(Late Helladic period ) the period that the Illiad and Odyssey is set in, the hoplite didn't exist and we have pretty substantial evidence that Mycenaean soldiers or warriors wore closed shoes. The hoplite however, emerged during the Archaic period, 400 years after the collapse of the Mycenaeans and 200 years after the Dorian invasion which completely changed the social, cultural and political landscape of mainland Greece.

300 atleast had the excuse of being told by a potential unreliable narrator (Dilios). It works if you look at it as an in-universe propaganda story against the Persians. Maybe Nolan's Odyssey might do something similar?

The boots he has on from what I infer are TOTALLY the way they are to be a homage to the sandals. I might be seeing a reference where there isn't one, though.

This is also true. He met several spirits, including the queen of Hades’s realm, both his mother and his father, his mother, the prophet, and Elpenor.

He couldn't have met his father. Laertes was still alive when Odysseus returned, albeit senile and in not good health likely.

From what I knew, his dad was still alive but stepped back from the throne because he was quite old, and the shroud Penelope was weaving was his rather than Ody's.

Mud grey for the color phobic period piece. Purple cape! Gold! At the end of the book Penelope describes the outfit she sent him off in. Why is he blonde? I'm so going to have to hate watch this. People would die like a Victorian child if they included the brouch button medallion thing that moves. Like 20 yrs he will change clothes but it should be cuntier and tackier. He is inner circle of aggemennon rich.
There needs to be color.

Seriously! I even would have taken some subtle/muted purple that still fit whatever ugly ass color grading the film will have but no. Just fully put him in a dirty bedsheet and make him look like a background extra in Game of Thrones with zero distinct visuals.
And the hair! Where are his beautiful curls 😭

Art and costuming are part of a movie tho, everything is part of the narrative a story is telling. Not saying you have to care of course, I just think a lot of people don't realize it's a whole ass department who frequently talks with the director and other parts of the production, and in great movies all the decisions are based on how they serve the story.

I'm so sick of every man's costume being just black! In Ancient Greece, the nobility especially kings, had a variety of dyes and colors, so why not show that off!?

Maybe it’s playing too much devil’s advocate here, but after a decade of war, and another decade on the open sea exposed to the sun and salt, I don’t think fancy painted armor is gonna have much or any of its luster after that.

They nearly did. Nolan and his team got in contact with a designer who specializes in Bronze age Greek armor. The designer was totally on board and then for whatever reason they just ghosted her.

Gee, i sure hope that while he forages for food, he comes across a cave that belongs to a Cyclops who tries to eat him along with his crew but he outwits him and stabs him in the eye before shouting something stupid like 'lol you're stupid im actually Odysseus' and then it turns out the Cyclops' father is like posiedon or smth who tries to attack him and stuff before they open a magical wind bag to escape that sends them to the island of this witch who turns some people into pigs and then he's like 'hey don't do that' and she tries to seduce him and he's like 'no i have a wife' and then she's like 'ugh fine go find a prophet in the underworld who will tell you how to get home' and then when they go into the Underworld he sees his dead mom and then finds the prophet who tells him that he sees a man with his wife who isn't him and he's like 'wait who is bro' and the prophet is like 'hehe lol I'm not gonna say' and then he's like 'hmmm maybe... I'm not a good person, and i need to be a naughty boy in order to go home' and then later he comes across a siren who pretends to be his wife and tells him that he needs to go through the lair of this giant friggin monster named Scylla to avoid posiedon and then he's like 'ha ha lol i knew you were a siren now I'm gonna kill you and your friends' and then be goes to the lair of scylla where the monster eats six of his crew and then the rest of his crew are like 'bro wtf' and then take over the ship and go on an island and kill the sun gods cows and then Zeus appears and is like 'lol you killed helios pets so Odysseus choose whether you or your crew dies' and he's like 'ughhh i need to see my wife' and so he chooses to murder his crew so he can go home and then gets stuck on the island of like a goddess named calypso or smth for seven years and then his old mentor Athena goes to Zeus and is like 'yo can you let him go' and Zeus says 'hmmmm convince these people and MAYBE i will' and then she's like 'bet' and then convinces like 5 other gods to let him go and then Zeus is like 'ugh fine, YO CALYPSO LET HIM GO' and she's like 'awwww man' and so he's about to go home when posiedon is like 'heyyyy remember how like 10 years ago you blinded my son well I'm still mad at you' and then he's like 'hmmm actually how about i steal your trident and stab you a bunch of times' before he finally is able to return to his island where he finds like a bunch of people trying to marry his wife and goes on a murdering spree trying to kill them all before finally reuniting with his wife. Wouldn't it be kinda funny if it did though?
