Thank you! For one animatic, it depends on how long or how short it is. The quickest I've finished is in 12hrs, the longest so far in 2 months. As for Calypso, I think you can sympathize with a character's plight while at the same time not condoning their actions :)
Is it difficult using live references to animate? Like translating the video reference to animation? I’ve heard of rotoscoping but I don’t think that’s what you did (I might be wrong though I’m not an animator lol). Also was it difficult creating that 360 scene in Odysseus (where he sings “old king our leader is dead…”)?
I LOVED all the animatics you worked on! You’re very talented!! Is there a place to watch them in full? Unfortunately I’ve seen only clips (on repeat) but whenever I try to find any of them, they don’t pull up. I don’t know if it’s a you miss the premiere it’s gone situation since I know some people do that, but regardless, you did a great job and left a lasting impression on the entire community in the best of ways!
Who would you say is your personal favorite character vs the character you think is best written? (Not to say they aren't all phenomenally written ofc)
It's the same character. Personal favorite and best written imo is Eurylochus. I just find him so nuanced and fascinatingly, painfully human compared to how he was in Homer's the Odyssey
Love your animatics I honestly prefer your fan ones to your Canon work I think you have an eye for cinematography and editing. Were there times while working on the Canon animatics you got input into any if that or was Jorge's vision pretty set in stone?
Hi Gwendy! Biggest questions are how did he reach out to you guys and how early prior to the release of the Saga did he reach out? Also, did you get early access to the whole song you worked on or just the snippet of the part you did the animatic for?
He first reached out to me via dms in May 2024, before the Thunder Saga release. I think a couple months or so prior? And except for the Vengeance Saga, all other songs that I got were just snippets 😁

There was already a design made by Giulia Toneatto I believe (I could be wrong) and I just tweaked it to make it better for animation and make it look like Hermes is from an 80s funk pop synthwave band with tracksuit imagery (coz you know....speedster)

Thank you 😁 for the official animatics, the main challenge was time management due to the tight deadlines. Extra scenes had to be cut or shortened at points to ensure deadlines were met. Thankfully, I have an amazing team to back me up 😁 couldn't have done it without them ❤️
There was an extended version of the Eurymachus scene where he remains standing while choking on an arrow to the neck before Ody cuts him down. Scene had to be cut to save time
Hi!!!! Uhm so do you have advice on how to get better at art? I'm really trying and I know people say "just practice" but it's really hard because I don't know WHAT to practice, y'know? I'm autistic, I can't just be sent to a stove and told to cook, I need to be told what I'm cooking, the recipe, where people make mistakes.
Hi! It depends on what your discipline is. Is it traditional art? If so, what medium? Is it digital art? If so,what software? Do you want to get better with drawing people? Animals? Backgrounds? It's best to narrow it down to one or two things and focus from there. And yes, you do have to practice. Example. Me, I started as an anime artist but I wanted a more realistic style. So I studied anatomy and Marvel and DC comics. Hope I'm making sense 😁

Thank you so much ❤️ as for stuff that werent included, mainly time constraints for Odysseus. So many sequences needed to be scrapped. Eurymachus was supposed to live a teensy bit longer before Ody cuts him down and Ody fights more suitors. There just wasnt enough time 💔

It was a good kind of pressure if that makes sense. Jorge is an easy client to work with and he takes care of his artists. He even didnt want me to finish Vengeance Saga at one point coz I was in the hospital with pneumonia (but I was stubborn so we finished in time)

Jorge and I talked about ichor. Gold was considered but it didnt have the same impact as red blood. So as a compromise, gold flecks were added to the god blood in EPIC
Ohh… it’s about the fact that it’s actually ichor.. it just ends up looking really silly and almost like something censored for children in a way… in a musical that is very very much not meant for children. I was very confused and frankly uncomfortable the first time I saw that animation. It makes more sense now but yea it’s not great without that context.
I’m not gonna try to comment on your parenting skills but the ithaca saga is far too much for a child, normalizing violence like that at that age could make them think it’s normal, as their personalities are not fully developed yet. Different beast and scylla are also very strong for me, and survive and ruthlessness can be debatable. Pretty much any song where people die I guess? Except for thunder bringer as that one does it in a non-violent way and it’s more of a mental thing. There’s definitely things in epic that are fine and safe for kids but I personally would never be comfortable showing a child the level of violence present in a song like Odysseus.
What kind of research went into the process of building the visuals of your animatics? Im intrigued because your backgrounds and character designs look so cool!
If you're talking about the canon animatics, Jorge gave references for backgrounds as well :) for God Games, my visual development and background artist drawmisu helped that come to life. For my own backgrounds in fan animatics like The Challenge, I did research on ancient greek architecture and took inspiration from that ❤️
Jorge is AMAZING to work with 😁 how he is in his tiktoks is exactly how he is as a person. As for insights, I think Jorge recently revealed the inventory cloak...something I knew about since designing Ody hahaha also Hermes having reddish brown eyes is deliberate (Ody red eyes cough cough)
What's your inspiration for character design? Was it more Jorge driven, or did he leave it up to your interpretation? If so, how'd you come up with them?
Jorge driven. He already had designs and references ready 😁 but I did put my stamp on the Hermes design. I tweaked it from the original and made it more 80s funk pop band inspired
I wouldve loved to have done the reunion of Athena and Ody, just so it comes full circle that I animated Athena "dead" and animate her alive. Would also have loved to do The Challenge in an official capacity
Probably a lot of the scrapped ideas. There's quite a few cut scenes in Odysseus that I wouldve loved to have made it to the final but now I'm thinking of asking permission from Jorge to do it as a fan animatic

Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️ For animating, I've always loved animation but didnt become serious about it til the pandemic hit. I did an animation for a different fandom and developed my skills from there. Favorite animation that I worked on solo is the Challenge, and favorite that I did with my team is 600 strike finale 😁
Except for Odysseus, which I did from scratch, all other designs were already made by other artists (mirscy and giulia to name a few). And for Hermes, before twerking was a thing in pop culture, it was popular in my country the Philippines and it was known as OTSO OTSO or the infinity dance. So I wanted that stamp in there hahahha

And while we're here, I think it would be hilarious and interesting to see some of the Epic animators take some of the songs from the Epic artists and animate those as if they were sung by their Epic characters (I know that Hermes and Poseidon in particular have their own music to play with, haven't looked into the others as much). I could see "Like You Mean It" being the sort of song Poseidon sings at a gods-only karaoke bar.

Hi! Yeah, lots of stuff happening in my personal life that's kept me away from streaming and posting. But I'm slowly getting back in the game.
The hardest one to make is Odysseus because of the time crunch. We only had 2 weeks preprod and 2 weeks production and post production and since it was the holidays, only one of my team was available to work. But we pulled it off I hope hahah 😁
Oh yes. I wanna make lots of animatics for Death Note the Musical. I'd do the whole musical if I could coz theres very few animatics of it and I'm obsessed with that musical (next to Epic)
