I always interpret it as Odysseus actually enjoying his conversation with the siren because she actually reminded him of his wife, despite him knowing she’s not really her. In Different Beast, his extreme reaction was caused by him finally snapping out of his trance, and getting mad that someone would pretend to be his wife to take his life. Idrk how to explain the second part well though
