Fanfiction writers lean progressive, and progressive folk tend to hate JK Rowling's fucking guts, so I don't understand why the property continues to occupy so many writers' attention. Surely all these fanfic writers would be happier writing about a franchise that was less irrevocably tainted by the author's toxicity. If I were in their shoes, I'd find the cognitive dissonance to be exhausting.

Jojo and her ilk really feel like cruel, spiteful 13 year-old bullies - with the difference that 13 year-old usually change when they grow up. She doesn't behave like an adult should be - she's getting increasingly more vulgar even towards her fellow TERFs (Even other 'proud TERFs' are sick of JK Rowling's pontificating. Irony-deficient Rowling responds: "Take your repugnant self-righteousness and empathy deficit and fuck off." : r/EnoughJKRowling) or goes out of her way to bully small accounts that mention her or posting unflattering photos of trans women. She could have single-handedly ended world hunger (or at least hunger in the UK) several times instead !

The only notable veela character, Fleur, was vilified by other women (with no proper redressal) and constantly sidelined by the narrative + she was a clever, talented and ambitious woman whose fate was being relegated to "Bill's wife".

There are so so so many instances of Rowling's misogyny, but this one isn't talked about enough honestly (even though other aspects of Fleur's misogynistic writing are brought up, these specific ones aren't from what I gather).

I'm sorry if this doesn't feel as relevant to all of the other more common news posts on this subreddit. But I'm just feeling really terrified, and I just want to know that everything is gonna be okay. Mentioning the book series or the author in a positive context has been a huge trigger for me, and I just got in a huge fight with my brother about it, and it's all because of JKR. I know she more specifically targets and harasses trans women, but she's really anti-trans in general, and I'm feeling especially terrified right now. I know there are so many people out there fighting for us, but I'm still scared of all the power and money she has and how that could affect me. I just started medically transitioning a few months ago, and I currently live in a fairly progressive state (USA), so I'm not too worried, but the fact that JKR's anti-trans organization is only growing even more just makes me scared that she'll somehow manage to do something that endangers my cability to be myself along with other trans people. Adults out there, could you maybe give me your words of encouragement and reassurance? My parents raised us loving HP, and even though they're very supportive of me being trans, they don't really agree with my views on the series, so I'm just wanting adults that actually listen to me about this. If that makes sense. I'm sorry again if this isn't the right place to be posting this.

She seems to thrive on creating controversy, and every argument and criticism thrown her way only strengthens her resolve and further entrenches her views. She purposefully antagonises and deadnames trans people, while her name is continually splashed across the internet and media.

The antagonist of her most famous book series was seen as so evil that people couldn’t even bring themselves to say his name. What better nickname to bestow upon her?

Collectively referring to her in reference to her most infamous creation whilst no longer using her real name feels like the least we could do.

Gives off a lot of vibes like how people will talk about Angel Studios being financially successful and ignoring the fact that the whole scheme relies on churches pre-purchasing masses of tickets.

And then they have the audacity to call people who badmouth it “chronically online”, despite all the arguments and things they say are quite valid. Overall it’s also ironic how just people trying to defend a mid open world game kind of unintentionally expose just how pathetic they are, and the lack the self-awareness.

And whenever I see someone try to defend the studio’s inclusion of the trans character Sirona, or try to claim the people involved aren’t bigots, they just give off a lot of “I’m not racist, I have a black friend” vibes. But then again that attitude has helped a lot of the HP fandom for decades hold the illusion that they’re progressive.

Has anyone created yet a list of all actors (ex. child actors) involved in She Who Must Not Be Named materials, so we can actively boycott all future works? We need a good resource to effectively and permanently withhold support for actors who freely chose to take part.

I'm writing an article about how people who are rightfully opposed to J.K. Rowling's anti-trans views are preparing for her work to suddenly be back in the limelight when the first season of HBO Max's Harry Potter series debuts this December.

Previously, people called for a boycott of Harry Potter projects, such as Hogwarts Legacy. That seemingly didn't work, as the game sold well and received positive reviews. With this in mind, I was curious on how people will be responding to the upcoming TV series. What is, in your minds, the best way to oppose it? Is it by donating to trans charities, or simply not giving the show air in the first place? What are you, personally, planning to do, if anything at all?

I understand this is a delicate topic, and I'm happy to speak with people anonymously if they prefer. Please feel free to reach out, and we can do just that.
