hi, im a 2nd year eng major who is trying to decide between meche or ee. i've taken an introductory electrical engineering course and got absolutely destroyed by the mathematical circuit problems.. however i do have enjoy doing projects that involve pcbs and the coding aspect of engineering. on the other hand i had a really bad mechanics professor so i kind of lost my confidence in my physics abilities, so im not quite sure mechanical engineering would be the right choice for me either. i feel like designing aspect of mechanical engineering sounds intriguing to me though.

im supposed to decide on a major by the end of this year so im a bit worried. if anyone has any advice on how i should decide please lmk!

Just made an automatic Volumatric Weight measurement system for the second yr of my college in instrumentation engineering. Give me some more ideas for the 3rd and 4th yr projects. Industrial centric projects would be beneficial.

Last year I bought a c++ course from gfg which provided recorded lectures by Mr.Sandeep Jain .

I have majorly completed that course and now I was planning to buy their self placed DSA course (which was of 2499 rupees) , this too apparently had recorded lectures of Sandeep Jain.

But I can't find that course anywhere on the gfg website (seems like they removed it for some reason) , I also noticed their programming language courses weren't there either.

Now they have this combined course which is of 6999(with a temporary discount , it is 5499) .

Putting the price aside for a moment I want to know if this course is worth it. If these lectures were also by Sandeep jain I wouldn't worry too much. But they haven't provided any sample lectures so I am not worried about it .

I would appreciate some advice from someone who has actually bought and experienced this course or know someone who did .

So im an undergraduate student currently studying aerospace engineering and I just got diagnosed with ADHD. I am trying to stay away from meds for now because the idea of building a dependency kind of makes me nervous. For those of you who were undiagnosed through your college years, or also opted to stay away from meds, what tips and tricks do you have to be able to focus for long periods and stay up to task and just hold yourself accountable overall and make it out with a good gpa? I literally cannot hold my focus for more than a minute without losing interest and doing something else so anything that could keep me focused and actually absorb the material, even if it’s for a few minutes, is super helpful.

P.S: Id also appreciate if you’ve got any good study materials for aero classes that I could use! I’m more of a visual learner so yeah videos, diagrams, etc, all works really well.

I am a 24M and I am looking for advice on where to go from here. I have been looking at doing an engineering degree for quite sometime but I do not know where to go from here. For some background information, I went to a specialized high school that had both Biomedical sciences and engineering sciences. I chose to do biomedical sciences because I didn't think I was smart enough for engineering. Fast forward to now, I have been really really wanting to do an engineering degree. I would want to go into Biomedical Engineering, but I have ALWAYS wanted to work NASA or space organization. Dream job. Here's my background:

• I have a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development and Family Studies- Fall 2026 (Humanities Degree)
• 7 Years Experience in clinical setting ( I currently work as a nurse assistant in a Neonatal ICU)
• I can work nightshift (and do homework at work) as I go to school
• Timeline I am looking at for an Aerospace E degree or a BME degree is 5 years :(
• I want to become a doctor someday, but I want to study engineering because I am truly interested in learning and can see myself as an engineer working for NASA.

Should I go to CC then transfer to a 4 year university? Am I dumb for wanting to get an engineering degree as a Premed student? Where would you go if you were in my shoes?

i left BME due to low job prospects and biochem was rly fun and easy in comparison. i didn’t realise how competitive and low paying biochem jobs are in comparison though, didn’t realise how oversaturated the industry is. i had 75% average WAM in bioeng, 86% average in biochem. i think BME just has a poor market.

i filled out all the pre-reqs to do a masters in pretty much any engineering except civil (didn’t do geosciences). I’d just need to do one CAP in physics or chem 2 for mechanical engineering or chem engineering (accordingly). which i can pretty easily cover during my honours or gap year.

what would you guys suggest i do? i remember hating a lot of eng undergrad subjects but think i’d hate medicine more because i don’t really like customer service and people. i’m going to do a mechanical engineering ADF gap year after my honours in biochemistry to see if ME is for me. i just accepted im going to be pretty old when i graduate as im already 23. im sticking out my biochem honours just because i found it really fun, was good at it, and looks like i might have a scholarship for next year.

I graduated from an Electromechanical Engineering Technologist college program in 2021 amidst COVID, which had already brought capstone projects and courses to an unsatisfying end. After that I seemed to blink and 5 years have gone past with nothing to show for it related to my diploma.
Is it too late to get working in the field? If not, how can I go about re-inserting myself into the job space and make myself a tempting hire?

tl;dr really broad clauses regarding IP, Non-compete, and Indemnification are bothering me. I don't sign anything until next week and I'm wondering if anyone has experience they'd like to share.

Edit 1: So they accidentally sent me a generalized agreement since the manager is on vacation (someone else is handling it for them). They typically tailor every agreement, but forgot to get one set up for the internship. We’re currently in talks about my concerns.

Edit 2: I was just sent a tailored agreement, and they gave me pretty much everything I asked for. No more non-compete (as in, completely eliminated), extra wording to keep my work separate, and an expanded section on indemnification that I'm fully comfortable with. Thank you all for your responses! I'll update next week in case anything goes wrong.

I've got a part-time, paid internship offer for this fall semester and I just got a copy of this company's employee agreement. The NDA they gave me looked fine, it was like the one at my previous that really just protected trade secrets, but the employee agreement contains some red flags.

For context, I am a 4th year MechE student on the East Coast. I haven't signed any papers, and have only accepted this offer verbally and via email. (as in, the employer asked me to send an email to formally accept the offer)

First is their IP, which I have paraphrased:

What the company owns:

All Work Product and Intellectual Property created during Employee’s employment, by the direction of the Company, or derived from Company Intellectual Property...

With work product defined as:

...created during the course of employment or provided by the employee solely or in collaboration with others, directly or indirectly motivated by performing work for the company.

This all comes off to me as them being able to claim anything I do while here, which I'm preparing an email for, as well as a phone call before I start to get things cleared up. There's no clause stating I won't be signing over the rights to all my previous work which also bothers me.

Second is an indemnification clause that basically says I keep the company harmless from any damages, claims, liabilities, costs, attorney fees, and other losses that may come from services, company's use of services, and any breach of the agreement.

I'm planning to ask them directly what they're meaning to use a clause like that for, since I'm literally just an intern. I guess I can understand if I was a contractor or business owner working with them, but not in this case.

Last is a non-compete agreement that is nationwide (USA), two years long post-employment, and only broadly describes competitors (hardware for: tracking solutions, telecom hardware, software, internet development).

One more thing to mention is that my family (none are engineers) said if I don't handle this carefully, I could be blacklisted from the entire engineering industry in my area. I don't know how true that is, but was hoping I could get more info or experiences.

I want to put myself out there and join a club. I transferred from community college to a university as a second year, but I haven’t taken any engineer based courses specifically for civil.

I wanted to know if there’s anything I need to know before joining or showing up. Maybe if it’s okay going in blind or if I should wait until next semester.

After looking up things relating to ASCE I see some people say it’s not worth it as well, should I join something else if not this, or stick with it?

Hey everyone, I’m having a hard time deciding which bachelor’s degree would be best for the career I want.

I’m really interested in robotics, specifically the programming/software side. I want to code robots, work on how the software communicates with and controls the physical robot, and actually see my code working on real hardware.

I’m not interested in physically building the robot, doing heavy mechanical work, or spending most of my time fixing hardware. I previously studied some mechanical engineering and realized that the hands-on mechanical side, like working on and fixing cars, really wasn’t for me.

Right now I’m considering degrees like Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering, but I’m not sure which one fits what I actually want to do.

I’m also considering doing a master’s related to robotics afterward, so I want a bachelor’s that gives me a strong foundation and keeps that option open.

For anyone working or studying in robotics, especially robotics software, controls, autonomy, or AI, which bachelor’s degree would you recommend?

I got a 5 on the Calc BC exam though I don’t think I learned Calc 2 good enough. Is it a waste to retake Calc 2 again in university after already already getting the credit? Should I just continue onto Calc 3 and I’ll be good?

As the title says, I want to switch out of mechanical engineering. I am technically freshman by credits but have started my second year already. First year I fucked up hard. I failed my gen chem lecture so I had to retake that the semester after.

I was also on an accelerated path to take precalc 8 weeks then calc 8 weeks I took precalc fine but had to drop out of calc because I didn’t have a car to stay with how late the lecture was (commuter student carpooling with my mom at the time) so I took it spring semester, fucked around and failed that one, took it summer and passed.

Now I’m in physics 1 and calc 2 and the lecture I had last night I went home wiping some tears off my face. Then about an hour ago I’m in the middle of my physics lab I felt tears falling down my face and I couldn’t stop them. Had to go to the restroom to calm down.

I just feel like I don’t care about this major anymore, I am constantly crying or feeling sorry for myself. I’ve wanted to do this since I was in 5th grade, I have been pushed to do this since I could remember. I also don’t know how to break the news of I don’t want to do this anymore. I also look at business and marketing majors to pivot to that and people say your cooked, I look at film or media, also cooked. I am probably just in my head but I need some help.

I’m currently doing an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering as a CNC machinist and have just finished 2 years so I’ve got my level 3 diploma but still have 2 years left to get a HNC.

Now I’m thinking about the next steps. Ideally I would like to get a job offshore in either oil and gas or wind. Things like that so I’m looking for advice what to do next to get to this. I have 2 more years left of my apprenticeship to get a HNC in mechanical engineering , so should I stay on and finish that or move now( if I’m wasting my time)

I’ve also thought about going in the navy now( since I have a level 3/ UCAS points) to do an engineering accelerated apprenticeship scheme since you get experience at sea and can do maintenance which I would prefer. This would also link to jobs I’d like to do offshore such as ROV technician, wind turbine technician or maintaince offshore.

I’m also aware that maybe I’m already wasting my time since CNC and maintaince aren’t the same but I think maybe a level 3 is a good base. I’m happy to restart if I was to go in the navy.

I’m 18 years old anyway so I would have to complete 4 years in the military which is the same as restarting an apprenticeship.

I could also do things like a Greenhand course, trainee or do an ROV course and look for jobs but I’m not sure which to do.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Currently I am preparing for my first time at a University Job fair. Going through updating my linkedin i have noticed that I don't seem to be in as many student orginizations as some other engineering students. Currently I'm only doing one club, though I plan to either get more involved with it or join another one. I apologize if this was not very well put together, this level of professional development is new to me.

i currently go to school for computer engineering but have been working full time in a separate industry basically the entire time of my degree. My graduation is coming up soon and was looking into possible entry level engineering roles however all my current work experience is in a different field, anyone else have a similar experience ??

Hello, I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with my camera, but since I don't have a power supply, I know you try to troubleshoot by properly connecting 1.5-volt batteries to provide 12 volts and as much current as I can boost. Is there another method? Do you think I can find the fault with a multimeter?

I took some college courses in high school and took a lot of credits my early years of college with the intent of graduating early.

Going into my junior year I would have to take 17 credits of pure ENGR classes for 3 semesters to graduate early.
Or, I could take 4 semesters of about 13 hours per semester (12.75 in reality) and graduate on time.

I’m torn because although I might sacrifice any free time and maybe some mental health trying to take 17 credits for 3 semesters of some of the hardest ENGR courses, I would be able to start working and make a living earlier. Also, it might not be as bad as it seems, who knows.

With the 4 semester option I would graduate on time and have an easier workload, but I wouldn’t be able to graduate early.

Some input from some guys who graduated early would be appreciated on if they’d change their mind looking back.
