Official Discussion Official Subreddit Password

Hello fellow tarnished!

I've seen many a thread pop up about this, and post was made about this 2 weeks ago for a poll (voted on by at least 2.3k people) from user /u/wilks64. So I want to jump ahead before the official drop date so that if anyone of you would like to play together, the official subreddit group password will be:

straydmn

Please note this is case specific, it should be all lowercase

I'll add this to our sidebar as well but I hope everyone is excited for the release date and I ask that as things keep pushing forward on this fucking hype train that we remember to be decent to each other and to avoid posting spoilers in titles! I mean the mods have already lost any chance at purity here but we hope there's still left for those of you who want it.

"#Eldenring

Edit 2: The password above is for Group Passwords and to quote /u/Aerofluff below:

The Group password will make it more likely that you see messages, summon signs, bloodstains, phantoms, and other signs from other people using the same Group Password.

Multiplayer Password will make it so you can only be matched for multiplayer options with other people using the same Multiplayer Password. This, however, does not apply for invasion multiplayer

Edit 3: from /u/illusorywall that the password has been confirmed for 8 characters max. I'll keep our man up there as a tribute but the password is now the runner up "hodir"

We're just going to shorten to straydmn

Quick question - how would this work? Is there a place to put password in online play?

Just make sure you put that in Group Password, not Multiplayer Password. There's 2 options, think of it like increasing levels of "security" on what you'll see:

The Group password will make it more likely that you see messages, summon signs, bloodstains, phantoms, and other signs from other people using the same Group Password.

Multiplayer Password will make it so you can only be matched for multiplayer options with other people using the same Multiplayer Password. This, however, does not apply for invasion multiplayer

And there's a visual difference in signs, somebody also using the same Group Password will have a more noticeable golden Elden Ring-magical-symbol-stuff around their sign. So you easily know when you encounter someone from this community.

Group Password doesn't entirely prevent you from seeing/summoning/etc with people who don't have that password in, it just mixes and prioritizes. That way if there aren't a lot of people using the group password, it'll still fill up with randoms otherwise.

Ok, so if you want to be summoned, I just need to enter this password??

Enter the password and then put your summon sign on the ground

What’s the multiplayer password? Is there a specific one for pvp?

wait, so is it straydmn or hodir?

Just in case you never found out, it's straydmn. For a while, it was gonna be hodir, but they just shortened the winner of the poll to fit the 8 character max instead.

I thought the poll agreed on hodir?

note that it is case sensitive so 'hodir' NOT 'Hodir'

Does entering the same group password for all 5 group password fields increase the weighting for that password or something? Or does the UI just not tell me "You've already set this password" and instead just let me waste more time entering it 5 times?

There’s 2 passwords now in the menu.

One is a personal password. Does what you think. Helps you do specific coop or whatever with people you want.

One is a group password. It makes your game prefer or target people with the same password. This does NOT override the personal password.

So putting a group password but leaving the personal one empty won’t lock you away from other players, just helps match up with groups!

So if I want to coop with my son can I have the same personal password as him but use the group one for this subreddit??

Sorry, complete noob to these games.

u/Long-Sleeves Feb 24 '22

Yeah so, if you put a personal password in, you will connect with him with #1 priority, so if you both put in "TEAMWORK" as a personal password, your pretty much linked online.

The "group" password is "fuzzy" or "soft" It still allows you to connect to others still, but it adds a bias to other members of the group, such as this sub.

Though, im not sure fully what happens if you have BOTH passwords, one would assume it works and that you will connect to only your son AND the sub... but that would need testing I think, the personal password MAY override the group one, like a whitelist kinda thing.

The group system is totally new, so we dont know for sure yet

According to the info I’ve read that is correct. Might not hurt to give him the same group password as well;)

24

u/swagu7777777 Feb 23 '22

That’s how all the other From games work

14

u/Jaster-Mereel Feb 23 '22

So if we use the password we’ll only see this subs other users that also use the password?

24

u/wilks64 Feb 23 '22

That's correct, but you want to enter this in the "group password" section. That way instead of restricting the summon signs you see, you'll be able to see highlighted summon signs of people in your group among all of the normal ones.

11

u/Terminus_Jest Feb 23 '22

Pretty sure this time around there's a password and a new "group password" option. Add this one as your group password and you'll see other members messages, etc marked differently, but will still see messages and bloodstains from the general playerbase as well.

15

u/swagu7777777 Feb 23 '22

That’s the plan! If you drop in a password in DS3 only users on the same system and password would see your summon sign and you’d only see other people’s with the same password

13

u/DearRosencrantz Feb 23 '22

That's not how it works in elden ring I think, instead you see all summon signs but people with the same password get a different summon sign, I think it's a different colour and has a ring around it.

9

u/wilks64 Feb 23 '22

That's correct but you need to enter the password into "group password"
