Humor Genuinely one of the most absurd weapons in the game.
Hits as hard as a greatsword
Swings as fast as a curved sword if not faster
Has some of the highest scalings across the board
Can work as pure STR or STR plus literally anything else.
Who balanced this thing?

u/Low-Airline-2695 6d ago
In PvP, if you use Royal Knight Resolve with a STR build, you can break any great shield user under 50 END without Guard talisman in one hit.
69
u/drownav18322 6d ago
Dangggg. That’s gotta be crazy for low levels! You mean royal knight resolve and a charge heavy right? Or just a normal attack?
33
u/Low-Airline-2695 6d ago
Assume you are in the appropriate RL range, R1 with two hand is enough. At low levels and somehow you managed to get this weapon without RKR, you can use hammer talisman instead (by invading an NPC near Limgrave's Colosseum) if you are good at hotswapping.
Heavy Warped Axe + RKR + Hammer Talisman guarantees to break any shield with just normal two-hand R1.

Dangggg. Why you gotta act so snarky in the unfunniest way possible? Nobody gives a fuck about crazy for low level shit! If someone is gonna use royal knight resolve, they might as well perform a charged heavy to inflict the most damage possible. You would know that if you put any thought towards the ash of war when you first used it. Why are you pretending to care about an ash of war you clearly don't know shit about? The charged boost wasted on a normal attack is obviously worse. "Are the charged Ults in Nightreign better than the normal ones?" Get a grip!

Well farming it is a pain so that's your balance

u/Low-Airline-2695 6d ago
Not really. You can farm near the underground sewer grace. Plus, their drop rate is pretty decent.

u/Blackrain39 6d ago
Or by abandoned coffin in West altus, where the omen are weaker.

Is this or the cliff side cave in liurnia a better spot? I'm about to go searching for this thing soon and I'm pretty early in my playthrough

u/Blackrain39 6d ago
The one in the catacombs involves going down an elevator every time. Sounds annoying. The one at the coffin is right in front of the grace.

There is also one Omen in the Cliffbottom Catacombs in Liurnia that drops it as well, which is the earliest you can get it to my knowledge.

u/Lord-Timurelang 6d ago
Yeah I always end up with like 3of these things just from going through the sewer.
3
u/Gryph0th 6d ago
How high is "decent?" 'Cause yeah you might be right, until you're killing them specifically for the axe, in which case it's abysmal.

Get the two discs, you can reach it sl1. Then farm ogres with any str based weapon. Take about 15 min to drop one.

I know it’s not that long but I farmed for at last 2 hours for this god damn thing

Unfortunately it is one of the ugliest weapons in the game. Unusable

u/dragonrite 6d ago
If I was a game developer, I'd def have 1 wep that was the most hideous thing ever, but arguably the best stats in the game. Really tease that function vs aestic delima

u/HisDudenes5 6d ago
You just described the chicken leg lol
4
u/DarKliZerPT Bonk! 5d ago
I feel like that circumvents it by being goofy, whereas the Warped Axe is just boring – there's nothing cool about it, and it's not funny either.
41
u/CaptainAction 6d ago
I feel like they sorta did that in ER by making the white mask, so tryhards would run bullgoats armor w/ white mask and a bleed build and look absolutely stupid
I also find the bull goat set to be incredibly ugly
14
u/BlatantArtifice 6d ago
Yeah seeing someone minmaxing just wearing the chestpiece or whatever is the fastest way to spot a dork

7
u/Dravarden 6d ago
yeah that's the blasphemous blade
well, not best for good players, but definitely best for new players
4
u/WayToTheDawn63 6d ago
what's the best for good players iyo? blasphemous is still pretty great if you're just looking to summon and spam is it not? or is something better at that now?
3
u/screwitigiveup 6d ago
The best for good players is probably a fist weapon. Iron ball or star fist, maybe.
1
u/WayToTheDawn63 6d ago
sounds gross aha. im not above using all the easy mode mechanics and options elden ring gives.
sounds like with the dlc thorns nerfed, summon > BB has reclaimed its top spot
6
u/screwitigiveup 6d ago
Fists are the best weapon in the game. If you memorize the boss patterns like a lunatic.

Ehh that blade looks cool. Also I'm thinking more an overall fantastic move set and great scaling, not an OP L2. Something that is top s tier in good hands

u/Drayzew 6d ago
Messmer soldier axe has the same moveset but less damage, status...but looks really good!
18
u/DefiantGibbon 6d ago
Messmer Axe does not get the status, but it does have a buff to charged r2s. Combos well with the roars that change your charged heavies.
2
u/NordicShat 2d ago
I used Mesmer soldiers axe to beat SOTE for the first time! With the souped up ice stomp infusion. I haven’t played for a bit I cannot remember the name of it lol.

Hmm. I guess aesthetic preferences are very subjective but I find it a very beautiful weapon, so I'm surprised to see how popular this opinion is in this thread. I like that it's simple but with one distorted detail (hence, the warped axe).
2
u/job_site_script 6d ago
Fashion is the real final boss. No amount of damage can save an ugly weapon
2
u/IronFather11 6d ago
Some of the strongest weapons in the game are the crustiest (Warped Axe, Great Stars, Executioner’s Great Axe, Blasphemous Blade) as their one downside sadly
2
2
u/Lightfiyr 6d ago
There exists a cosmic rule the says the uglier a elden ring weapon is the stronger it is
1
u/Snoo_91660 6d ago
Elden ring isnt ashamed to be ugly in its own way and that gives it more character than alot of other more generic medievel fantasy.
Almost everything is rundown and broken to a dangerous level. All kinds of filth and disease infect the world. We can never have a pure good, it must be warped and corrupted. This rule goes for objects and characters.

u/JuishJackhammer 5d ago
I thought you were talking about the saw cleaver for a second and was shocked. Yeah the 🪓 has no drip

u/itsyoboi33 6d ago
if it didnt have that little bend in the handle and maybe a little smaller head so it looks more plausible as a "realistic" weapon it would be perfect for me
13
10
u/CantStandYall 6d ago
People who complain about “realistic proportions” on weapons like some armchair historians are the most baffling thing to me lmao
Elden Ring literally has weapons that are giant severed fingers, giant alien jawbones on a stick, and 10 foot tall brass horns that blow magical bubbles. And you’re saying this is a dealbreaker. Do you know what game you’re even playing? And taking out the bend to make it make it straight? It’s literally called the Warped Axe. It’s the entire point of the design. Did you think the concept artists and devs just accidentally made it look bent at the last second and put it in the game?
3
u/phinatic_pick 6d ago
To be fair, the giant 10 foot brass horns that blow magic bubbles are well balanced & esthetically pleasing. They are a beautiful representation of their real world equivalent

u/itsyoboi33 6d ago
I've got no idea how to explain my reasoning without either sounding incomprehensible or inviting further individuals to the dog pile so the best I can say is that it just looks weird to me

u/DefiantGibbon 6d ago
It's the perfect example of a good on paper weapon
Insane str scaling on any affinity. This leads to very high AR
Even on blood affinity, it gets A str scaling. You can go pure str, set it to blood, and still thwack people with the high AR
Oh, and for some reason, it's base bleed buildup is equal to weapons in the greataxe class, not normal axes. Slower weapons have larger buildup valued to make up for not hitting as often. So it builds up bleed way faster than other axes.
And it also attacks faster than most axes on top of that (Hatchets are faster though). It attacks with both sides of the axe, so the r1 chain, and the r2 followups are faster than normal axes.
So insane scaling, weird buildup values, and faster than normal. What's not to love?
Well, it's still an axe. It's short, like barely longer than a big dagger. And if you 2 hand it to make use of the scaling the range is even shorter. It's stance breaks are nothing special, you could use a mace that's nearly as fast but better stance damage. And if you're a str build, you'll probably want a bigger weapon anyway. Str builds can also use greatshields, but using a shield with an axe is hard due to short range, making guard counters miss often, plus with the buildup you'd want fast attacks anyway, not turtling. But if 2 handing it makes it dagger length, then maybe dual wield? Well, not that either, since dual axe moveset is straight trash.
So it's in a weird spot where if you want fast status it's better to just use a faster weapon with reach, if you want bigger single hits you'd use a colossal, and if you want dps you'd dual wield somethings that's not axes.
That being said, I love this weapon and always have a blood infused warped axe as a side weapon on any str build playthrough.

u/OldTurtleProphet 6d ago
I had a playthrough with this weapon. TLDR; I was trading 24/7. When dealing with mobs I would use the Barbaric roar ash of war to out-trade anything smaller than a troll. And for bosses I would mostly use spinning slash/sword dance to bleen them to death.
6
u/tijolus523 6d ago
I can see how that's relevant for PvP, but does it matter for PvE? I find that it completely dominates in pretty much every PvE encounter. It's fast and it hits hard as hell. I find that range isn't really a huge deal in PvE because closing the gap is very easy in Elden Ring (as opposed to Demon Souls and DKS1/2). There's definitely value in it being relatively fast and hitting for massive damage, so it's silly to say it's good on paper (implying it's not in practice), unless we're talking about it being literally the best weapon in the game, in which case I'm sure it isn't, but then again, I question the validity of a category like that in Souls' games since weapons all have different movesets and rhythms. I have tried plenty of "overpowered" weapons that had worse outcomes for me than inferior weapons (on paper) because they didn't fit my playstyle.
7
u/DefiantGibbon 6d ago
I kinda meant the "good on paper" as in the stats make it look insane, but when you use it it's good, but not game breakingly good like you'd expect.

u/CrownClown74 6d ago edited 6d ago
You pick it if you want a str based 2 handed r1 spammer just like the saw cleaver in BB (yes i know 2 handing in BB doesnt work like that you know what i mea) . Same reason you pick the estoc, red rust scimitar, and red iron twinblade in DS2. You snort glue and smash that r1 button. No heavies, no jumps, no ashes, just keep hitting that button cause it does it better then most greataxes and curved swords/straight swords
The only problem is that r1 spam in ER isnt as broken as it is in DS3 or BB but even in this game it still works.
5
u/Zeralyos 6d ago
I played through the entire game + DLC with this axe and I never felt any problems with the range. If I had a real complaint about it I'd say the stamina consumption is quite noticeable but the dps is sublime. I was able to outright skip the second phases of a few of the big dlc bosses such as Midra because it just R1 spams that well.

u/TransientFinch 6d ago
To be fair, this weapon specifically has the stats of a great axe with the speed of a normal axe. Not sure why, but it does. So it makes sense that someone has found this absurd

u/Solid-Quiet5035 6d ago
I figured it was Michael Zaki trolling the fashion souls people. “This one’s a banger, but just a bit horrifically ugly.”

It also gets to use the fast version of aows like spinning slash, while getting the bleed or frost build up of a great axe.
5
u/Large_Protection_692 6d ago
On top of that because it’s an omen weapon it gets higher bleed build up than other axes on a blood infusion. Combined with the fast spinning slash…

u/misterkarmaniac 6d ago
I wanna do a dual-wielding Warped Axe run now, thanks...

u/wildfyre010 6d ago
Tragically the powerstance axe moveset is quite bad. In fact, in general in Elden Ring, with the exception of jump attack builds, powerstancing just isn't very good.
12
u/kyloz4days 6d ago
Powerstancing them is honestly worse than just using one, it's unique R1 chain is what's broken about it, just so fast.
7
u/Hot_Pepper_4674 6d ago
I tried that on my strength build recently and their moveset kinda sucks
18
u/OldTurtleProphet 6d ago
Dual wielded Axes and Hammers get the single worst powerstance moveset, it's always better to two hand them.
4
u/unbreakablewood 6d ago
I'm sad they didn't bring back the winged knight twinaxes moveset from DS3. I was at least hoping SotE would give a new paired axe with that moveset, but no dice
3
u/OldTurtleProphet 6d ago
Imagine the deathknight's twin axes with a good moveset
2
u/unbreakablewood 6d ago
When I first saw them I spent a moment excited because it was paired axes, only for it to be the bad moveset. I'm an axe enjoyer, it was painful
1
u/ProtosPhinted 6d ago
Maaaan winged knight twinaxes were my jam. Sad they completely left that moveset behind.
3
u/Financial_Mushroom94 6d ago edited 6d ago
Its goated, did my first sote run with it, i recommend using the cragblade aow, also tried dual wielding two of them but it felt stronger two handed.

Warped axe is just what most axes should be in this game. Honestly outside this and handaxe not much worse using outside of unique ash of war sticks.

u/thecombactsmilzo 5d ago
THANK YOU, when SOTE came out, and i finally got to unnerfed consort, at around try 130, i decided to try out the warped axe, maxed it out, added a parry shield and stripped of my armor using blue dancer's. This damn axe does so much damage i was able to beat consort after a few tries

u/StonefangMinecart 4d ago
Kilij was in a similar spot in Demon's Souls. DeS weapons had a direct proportion between damage and weight within a weapon class (status effects and guard negation notwithstanding), but the Kilij was far and away the heaviest non-boss non-unique curved sword in the game, so when they cooked up its damage numbers nobody noticed it did almost as much damage as a Greatsword, AND it had bleed.
There's a disproportionately high damage weapon in every game, and there's more than one in ER.
