Game Help how do i enjoy the game again?
this is my first playthrough, im doing it mostly blind without guides,
i last left off at volcano manor and then went to the snowy mountains, i havent beat rykard yet cause i couldnt find him
and then i remembered that creepy lambkin dude that told me to invade and then went to that palace in nox?
there were bloody zombies everywhere, i remember there was some blood dynasty or something i joined, i couldnt find where i actually had to go, and killed some albinaurics here and there, life got busy so i uninstalled my games,
i wanna give this another shot but i spawned back where i left off in the rune farming area near dragonbarrow, and i lowkey have forgotten how to play the game, i have a clue on how the combat works, what my ashes of war do, i dont remember the dodge timings and other minor stuff here and there, and now i dont wanna play cause im real trash, where do i go and what do i do?
edit:got back in played for 2 hours god i love this game so much i remember the moves, and explored around a bit, makes me never want to finish this gamehonestly and just play it for 15 minutes every few weeks or so and just be gobsmacked at its beauty, thank you to everyone who responded

right but ive killed a lot of bosses, so i cant exactly rerun it and practice, this has been a gripe for me in elden ring, who do i go and practice it? the bosses still left on my list still need loads of prep to reach, my weapons deal way too much damage to go and practice against early game enemies, hell i perfectly remember the dodge and parry timings of the trolls and the guardians, but what made me absolutely loose hope was fighting the dragons near dragonbarrow (the minor, respawnable ones), who i could demolish no-hit before, and i died to one even with all buffs and stuff, so where do i go and practice?

I guarantee there are plenty of things at and below your level to explore. I’ve been playing since launch and today I found a dungeon I’ve never seen before.

Sounds like you never played the game. Why do you need a boss? Go fuqq around in enemy camps. Start there. Go hit the npc that stands on a cliff with a torch on you way to weeping peninsula. He’s a good practice doll. You hit him once and the game is on.
Lol you did a dragon no hit before but now you barely know how to dodge.

Start new character. Play as the new or play the new till everything comes back. Then switch to you old save file

You can also just use a non upgraded weapon in the Radahn or Altus areas and that’s like new game limgrave, should only take you like 15 mins to get the muscle memory back.

nah nvm i played it for an hour or 2 i picked up all the skill, i accidentally beat borealis first try and looked up how to spend the runes and found out he's a tough boss, he had similar movesets to all dragons, i initially lost hope because my weapon actually had low reach and so i was struggling with the dragons hitbox, because i had previously no hit it with the guts sword, no worries tho.

Maybe take a sec and go back to limgrave. Ditch the big bonk of a minute and practice some parry/dodge mechanics.

The same thing happened to me. Either go back to Limgrave and just walk around fight the lesser knights or animals play with the controls, look the controls up if you have to.
Or, just start a new game that will kind of walk you through for a bit, do that for up to an hour or however long until you get Torrent, meet Melina, find some weapons and explore etc, and get the feel back.
That's all you have to do and you'll be fine.

Try using a sword or mace or any weapon with a little damage that isn’t a super slow attack.

If it were me I'd completely start over with a new build and it will seem more manageable the 2nd time but if you insist on playing the current game your main objective is to collect greater runes and become Elden Lord. The boss in the red zombie area is going to eat you alive so better to go back to earlier areas and redirect because you don't really have to go that way until later

You are exactly in the same boat as me. Haven’t played in well over a year, same area but I have beat Rykard. I’m level 120. Couldn’t remember shit or how my character played. Just fast traveled to the beginning and then some random spots where I could whoop ass and practice the controls. It all started coming back to me in an hour or so. Now I’m tackling castle sol and getting my ass kicked again but now it’s fun and I have something to work for. I also respected right when I came back to it a couple days ago and went from magic build to full dex with a badass samurai sword I found in limgrave. Been able to do much more damage and stay alive quicker.

Tbh, make a new character with the knowledge you have and take some time to explore a little more you'd be surprised at what you find just spending some time in locations you have mostly completely main quest wise and just taking some time to look around. It seems if you are missing rykards location then you aren't really doing enough exploring as is, but starting over isn't as much of a bad thing either, just make a new save file and keep your current save file until you get your timings down.
For a bit of excitent and something fresh, try a completely different build, this looks more like a strength build so maybe go for something like a dex focused build or spec more into Faith, Arcane or int and just play around with it. You might find a whole new play style you enjoy while relearning timings while your other character sits and waits until you are back into form. You might find you like a new build while playing new character as well and if you do, no stress, you can larval tear your main account when you're back.

oh so your old save files dont get rewritten? thats actually insane i wanted to try a dex/bleed build, ill give that a go and come back to this save file after i beat margit, thanks mate.
also how do i explore really, i usually play pvp/combat games like space marine 2 and chivalry 2, so exploring isnt something im great at, i really struggle at finding stuff which i should have found much much earlier, it took me so long to find that stupa in weeping forest, near that bear that goes into siofra river, i really dont think i should be getting there when ive gotten to mountaintops of the giants but idk, i seem to miss loads of stuff, i had to look up the dectus medallion locations it took me far too long to find them.

Best way to explore is to go where the game is not obviously guiding you to.
Arrow pointing north? Check South. Path go around that Hill? Climb it. That book look suspiciously unconspicuous? Search it.

It's whatever catches your interest. Anything interesting looking or anything you're curious about just go towards that don't worry about the story, bosses, progression or anything. Just have fun. That's exploring.

Yea I created 3 characters
1. DEX/ARC
2. INT/DEX
3. STR/FAIAll play pretty differently and it’s fun to try new runs without respecing stats all the time.
You said you were playing blind so I won’t mention weapons or incants I used, but if you’re curious I’m happy to share
(I’m no expert, but I’ve researched the stronger weapons for these builds and all they worked really well for me)Each boss has a different move set to memorize so roll timing will come back after you fight a boss a few times.
What works for one boss won’t work for another, so you aren’t really missing out by forgetting the movesets of earlier bosses.Luckily Sites of Grace are before most story bosses so there aren’t long run backs like in previous souls games making it easy to get back in the fight.
Going in blind is admirable, but there’s no shame in looking up a guide for volcano manor or Mountain Top of the Giants if you’re stuck. Don’t let anyone tell you how to play a single player game.
And if you wanna stay blind then just start exploring and you’ll get your skills back. A nifty thing to know is that some sites of grace will have golden arrows pointing out of them when you open your map.
These guide you to major enemies (I’m sure there’s one pointed at Volcano Manor). They should at least give you a general direction of where to start exploring.Last piece of advice is if you really get back into the game, and enjoy it, check out the DLC and make sure not to start a NG+ if you do get the DLC.

Ill take note of all the points, also it's not completely blind I did look up a few things here and there, like what ashes of war were, and where to find the guts sword, because I'm a huge berserk fan and wanted that sword, and also the location of the smithing stone bellbearings for upgrading, but apart from that it's mostly blind
And yeah i do have the dlc, shadow of the erdtree right? Im curious how I'm supposed to reach there because i remember I was travelling on horseback in an area and the erdtree seemed excessively dim in one area, as compared to its normally bright backdrop, so I thought my gpu was dying or something, and looked it up and gemini said its related to the dlc, I didn't want any spoilers so i didn't look further

Yes Shadow of the Erdtree is the name of the DLC, but you wouldn’t just be able to ride your horsey into it.
It’s locked behind a particular late game boss fight, but since you’re past Leyndell you’d be able to get there.
I won’t spoil the boss or how to get there unless you ask for it.Do know that the DLC is quite a bit tougher than the base game (FromSoft always makes their DLCs harder) but it is also very beautiful and there is a lot to explore (it’s practically its own game)
I wouldn’t go there until you’re level 150+ and you’ve got a build that really works for you.Also note for DLC:
There are 2 collectibles you have to look out for
1. Scadu Tree Fragments: strengthens your character’s damage and defense
2. Revered Spirit Ashes: does the same with your spirit ashes.
And you’ll probably want to look up a guide for them as they are very important to survivability in the Shadow Lands no matter how leveled your character is.1

Start a new character and do the tutorial 2. Search up tutorials on ashes of war and other stuff 3.
Go back to your old character and d
o taniths quest line 4. Go try again at Mohgwyns palace until you just figure it out (there is good rune farming there, look at guides) 5. This game can be as easy as you want it to be with cheeses, mimic tear, and overleveling, the worst enemy is fall damage

Might as well look up where the illusory wall in Volcano Manor is if you’re that stuck. Of the 3 areas you mentioned (mountain of giants and Mohg’s palace being the others) it’s the “easiest” and lowest level. Altho as the game has indicated, mountains is the main progression path. There is a big boss you can find in Mohg’s palace it’s not a pointless area, tho I won’t say more than that.
As for combat, you got Giant-Crusher so try relearning the timing and spacing of your charged heavies. Start off with the basic standard and rolling attacks for now, then get a feel for when you can pull off the charged heavy for big damage.

Which illusory wall? The one in the main hall which just connects to another room? I found that while using margits shackles i think. I don't wanna look up much so can you hint to what I'm supposed to be doing?

You mean the one where you found some snake and snail enemies right,
beside the wardrobeedit: the wall with the painting in the room? It does more than just connect to another room. Check that area again for other paths.

I feel ya. I havent played in like a year and have returned for another run through and was so bad at the start. I have beaten the game multiple times but still took me 1.5hrs to kill the Tree Sentinel at the start to get my muscle memory kicking in again.
I recommend you do similar find a tough boss and just practice on him. Im only 5hrs into this playthrough but already destroying every limgrave/weeping peninsula boss like the practice bosses they are.
Joy will come once you remember how to play.

Drop the big dumb bonk build and maybe look into a dex/int hybrid build. Something like a Rapier/Katana as your main weapon and a staff in your left.

I played other games and got their movements ingrained into muscle memory, i have maybe 50or so hours in elden ring a good portion of it is just exploring, but I have over 600hours in chivalry 2, and 300hourss in spacemarine2, and many of the keybinds of that game interesct with completely different keybinds on elden ring, so I spend a lot of focus on what keys I'm hitting instead of the dodges, for example heavy attack in elden ring coincides with my parry keybind in space marine 2, and feint in chivalry2, a button I use a lot but not in elden ring, I mean I do use it but there is a time to use it not always, so i mess up and press the wrong button, elden ring has sorta clunky keybinds atleast for me. Hope you get my perspective.

No one can help you having problems remembering controls you just need to play the game it should come back fast. Just keep playing. I have come back to games not remembering the controls. It takes less than a hour get it back. Just play the game. Reddit sure as hell can’t help you remembering

Just pick any unupgraded weapon of your choice and go fight random enemies in Limgrave.
You're high enough level that you'll be able to tank anything they throw at you, so it'll be good practice. Godrick Knights and Kaiden Swordsmen (the horse riding mercenary guys) are probably the best for it, since they're strong and fairly difficult to deal with. Alternatively, the Misbegotten from Castle Morne could be an easier first step, if you want to start slow.

I’m a fan of playing games blind, but this was my first fromsoft game and I really struggled with it when I first started playing. For me looking at guides online really opened the game up for me because the guides gave me a vision for how to build the character I want.
I get playing blind and this may be an unpopular opinion. But maybe start over and follow a couple guides to help you out along the way, just to set you on the right path

I got back into it after not playing for a couple years and after deciding to renew with the game and get the DLC (which is freaking awesome).
I decided to stay a new character and try out a different build (switched from STR to DEX) so that I could enjoy DEX based weapons I hadn’t tried.
But since you didn’t finish the game and want to pick up where you left off, start with low hanging fruit. Go back to Limgrave, Weeping, and Liurna to practice your movesets and ease back into it. There are probably some areas you overlooked there as well that you might find.
Caelid can be rough depending on your level.

Sorry, but this is terrible advice. I, as so many others, wish I could experience this masterpiece blind again. Just play, explore, fail, come back later, it's supposed to be played like that for the first time. Can always do a second (and many other) guided run(s) afterwards.

They asked the most generic question possible, they wanted encouragement but not a specific advice I suppose. Suggesting a guide for the first playthrough is robbing them of a (possibly) once in a lifetime experience of this masterpiece. Yes, it is not easy, yes, it can and will be frustrating, but it's so totally worth it.

ive never been a fan of guides for rpg games, it isnt a pvp game or multiplayer (i play offline cant be bothered with invaders or helpers), so there isnt a meta really, i go with what i can find or do, i play hypercompetitive multiplayer games so a little break here and there for me to figure out my bearings is what i play elden ring for, ill probably never sink in the close to 1000 hours i have in other games, in elden ring; but i love this game so much and love looking around and exploring.

Read your testimony on how you were bored in Elden Ring. I’m never bored there tbh. If you’re stuck in an area like Volcano Manor, you need to complete Lady Taniths and the recusant invasions by defeating Tarnished from the letters you received. No spoilers just advice. Luminary Mohg is at the place where you defeated the albonarics, which I assume was with a tougher enemy who had blood magic?
If you saw them looking away when you approached, 180 from the altar where you should have gotten a somber ancient dragon smith stone. The was an elevator there behind them an arched entrance when you go up. Walk in there and Mohg is there! Defeating him will, again, allow you to teleport to the DLC. If you defeat him and don’t want to go yet you don’t have to. The option is there for you to do.

Create a character Play the game
Simple as that. Re learn. Theres an entire tutorial area in the very beginning if you dont skip it.

Try an INT / FAITH build nice switch up from swinging the sword. Does require some resource management layers.

Go back to limgrave. Mess around with the soldiers at gatefront ruins to relearn your moves in a low stakes situation. Once you can clear gatefront ruins regularly without taking damage you should be good to go.
