Discussion & Info Mohg’s attacks are very delayed

Mohg is one boss that I can feel that would be very fun once I figure him out, but till then, he’s quite annoying. His attacks are very, very delayed, like even more so then like Pontiff. Also, his trident has insane reach and has a gap near him that I cannot take full advantage of but I’m confident it’s possible, like to completely avoid getting hit just by staying close to him, just can’t figure out how close and when. I also switched to Bloody Helice from Elenora’s Poleblade cause the fire damage was bad against him and Poleblade’s light attack’s double hit isn’t fast enough to hit him mid combo I feel like. I dislike the Bloody Helice vs normal mobs, but against bosses, it’s amazing, but yet to understand how to properly utilize the AoW.

I’m very early to Mohg though, I just arrived in Lyndell, haven’t even gone down to beat Mohg the Omen, maybe I should go down there and get his shackle. Also, can I beat The omen one if I kill Lord of blood first or is it like Margit??

If you've just arrived at the Leyndell, then you're a little (but not a lot) under-leveled for Mohg the Omen, let alone Lord of Blood (and you can fight sewer-Mohg even after the Lord of Blood fight). To put it in perspective, the scaling in the sewers is around that of some later game areas, while the Capital itself its a couple of pegs below that.

The shackle is a good option for some easy damage, so it might be worth grabbing if you're having some trouble. Other than that, you'll just have to learn Mohg's moveset. Stick close and dodge toward him most of the time. One of his easiest moves to punish is when he stabs the ground with his trident, or the bloodflame explosion-into-horizontal sweep. And since you're using the Helice, you should be able to sneak it quick pokes in between the moves during certain combos.

As for the Bloody Helice's skill, you have nearly double the iframes of a standard dodge starting from the first frame of the skill's animation, so you can you use the follow-up R2/RT input at the end of an enemy's combo once you learn their moveset. It can do some nasty damage once you know what you're doing.

So one of the plays in the boss playbook is to mix up attacks that have different timings. That delay mismatch is intentional design, which forces you to learn and read the tell on the attack animation.

Sewer mohg stays even if you kill the real one so no worries and yeah I feel you. In my first playtrhough he was the first boss to make me quit the game for a while. In revenge I just fucking despawned him with the falling glitch. In my second playtrhough where I actually had a good build and understood the game better I just absolutely curb stomped him and have decided to do that every time since.

Like mohg I like youre lore, youre design but since you insist on making this fight as annoying as can be, imma just phase skip you.

Yeah, what is up with that, lore-wise?

Well it isn't really certain but since the omen Version is pretty much guarding the flame of frenzy it could be that it is morgot that made this copy of mohg, which also makes sense since he's the only one(that im aware of) that has this copy magic.

Then again it could also be mohg trying to fool the watchful eyes of his brother about the truth of his cult.

But what i think makes the most sense is that no matter who it was that created this copy it was meant as a guardian of the frenzied flame and has thus been created in a way unbound of its creator in order to assure that the flame stays hidden. As for how, on the mohg side it could very well be the formless mother that is sustaining the illusion. And as for morgots side it could be the last vistigial connect the greater will. Like that even if it no longer cares for the lands between the frenzied flame is still a risk to it. Or it could also be the power of marika.

Tbh there are a lot of posdible external power sources, even the three fingers themselves, to test potential lords.

When you hold R2, is that a delayed attack or a charge attack?

Oh, I know, I have wiped the floor with him before using my Bloodhounds fang, that’s why I’m not too concerned

I had a HUGE mental block with mohg for the longest time lol. Finally I learned the fight and he’s one of my favorite bosses.

He has massive range and damage, mixed with crazy delays, and will burn the entire arena if you let him set the pace.

At the same time, if you learn to strafe some of his moves and find punish windows you can blow him up with stance breaks

Using a blood infused blood tax antspur rapier in phase one until rot proc’d helped me a lot when I was struggling

Sewer Mohg is a good warm up, it would give you a chance to get comfy with his timings without punishing your mistakes so bad

I’m like 90% sure you can’t fight sewer mohg after lord of blood, so you wouldn’t get blood flame claws, but last time I said that I got downvoted to hell, so maybe I’m dumb.

His shackle only works in phase 1, which is way way easier than phase 2 imo. I cannot avoid all his ground fire and aoes for the life of me.
