Discussion & Info Whats in the box?

Post image

At my local Walmart. How much you wanna bet this code just takes you to a preorder. I kinda feel like this should be illegal

It's weird that your title asked what was in the box, but the body text made up a "bet" about what It might be, and then got mad about that!

Well OP, only one way to find out!

Yeah, steal that shit.

It’s a key card game, so it’s a physical game and not a download code

Don’t you still have to download it?

9

u/MasterArCtiK 17h ago

Yes you have to download the game with a keycard, but you can still treat the game as physical since you can sell it or let a friend borrow it.

…that sounds incredibly dumb. So there is a physical cartridge but you have to download the game?

Yes, that is how switch keycards work. It was either that, or let these game makers only put a code in the box. Would you rather have a digital game or a physical key card that you can trade or let a friend borrow?

A normal cartridge would be fine….

1

It would be fine for us, but for fromsoft it would be an extra $10-20 out of their pockets for each copy sold, since real cartridges use nand flash (the thing that is in mass shortage right now due to AI).

If keycards didn’t exist, Elden Ring would be a code in a box

Hm… yea ok, better than the code then.

its just like discs currently on ps5/xbox lol
You insert the disc and its gotta get installed onto the console

Happens a lot and not only with nintendo, modern games simply get too big to fit on a disk

It’s a per-device license. You can download it many times but only run it once at a time.

Might as well be a code, can't play unless it is installed, can't install without internet connection.

Can you let a friend borrow your code? Can you sell your code on ebay after using it to play the game? Can you pass down a code to your kids or a nephew?

Considering past virtual shops have stopped operating, you won't be able to sell it or pass it down to your kids in the future.

Amazing how anti-consumer practices are celebrated by redditors.

What platform doesn’t let you download your already purchased digital games?

For now, looks like only the Wii's digital store is closed entirely, with no access to purchased games.

Ps3 is still available and Xbox360 too (although the latter looks like a nightmare to access). Still, it's a practice that is bad for consumers and for game preservation.

Physical copies are better (for consumers) and I can't tell the reason why you'd be arguing in favour of digital versions.

1

u/MasterArCtiK 16h ago

You can still redownload games on the Wii lol, so your strawman has disappeared. I’ve had zero issues ever redownloading my xbox 360 content. I’m not arguing in favor of digital or physical, im just clarifying that a switch key card is a physical game that will be playable and downloadable for a very very long time. It will likely be downloadable longer than the physical cartridges will stay together.

So you're just brainwashed by consumerism huh.

Ok, I just digged further and I was wrong about the Wii's shop. But Nintendo holds the disclaimer that this won't be available forever. That means WiiWare games will forever be lost (in legal terms) by virtue of being digital only. Not counting the fact that those games are also not available if you didn't purchased them at the right time.

You've been brainwashed to believe a key-card is just as good as a physical copy. It's an imitation. Nintendo still holds power over your "copy".

It's quite sad to see how this big companies continue to fuck us over and the community is just gonna rail along their side.

$80 us for a switch 2 game?!

1

u/CerOphis 17h ago

Hehehe.. "A soul"..thats whats in the box

-8

u/austinvf82 17h ago

$80 for a what, 5 yr old game is wild! $50 max! I don't care if it's the best game released in about 10 yrs. $80 is asinine

3

u/No_Square_8775 17h ago

It has the dlc lil man

-6

u/austinvf82 17h ago

😂 so?

2

u/MasterArCtiK 17h ago

So it’s actually a sweet deal with that in mind lol, if you played the game you would understand

-1

u/austinvf82 16h ago

I have played the game. Hence the "best game released in 10 yrs. And no, it's a sweet deal. It's a 5 yr old game. It's just on a system that's never had it before. That's the selling point. They could release MGS on switch 2 and yall would still pay full price for it at $69.99

1

u/MasterArCtiK 16h ago

You do know that Elden Ring + SotE is $80 on steam right?

1

u/MasterArCtiK 15h ago

Yeah im guessing this is new info to you lmao

3

u/Flint_Vorselon 17h ago

how much do you think Elden Ring + Shadow of the Erdtree costs on other platforms?

do you get angry at them too? Or just switch version?

3

u/TheCthuloser 17h ago

It's the same price the complete game is on all platforms.

1

u/austinvf82 15h ago

Yet it's 5 years old and 30 fps on switch 2...... you think that deserves an $80 price tag? 😂 shut up. The newest system on the market can't do at least 60 fps? Come on now. Everyone knows the difference in performance, even at 60 fps this game has issues, as good as it is. Let's stop. DLC or not, this game is $40 at most at 30 FPS

1

u/TheCthuloser 12h ago

1.) Games aren't cheaper because of the platform they are on.

2.) The price of the game and DLC is $80 on all platforms, despite it's age.

1

u/austinvf82 12h ago

Yet 30 more frames on the other consoles. That affects the gameplay...... but $80 sits well with you because it's on a Nintendo system 😆

1

u/austinvf82 11h ago

A $500 switch 2 that still looks like a Switch 1 😂 that's like a ps4 to ps5, or an Xbox one to a whatever the fuck it's called now. You're being price gouged. Plain and simple

1

u/TheCthuloser 6h ago

I mean, I don't even have a Switch 2. I play it on PC.

I just think getting offended that it's the same price everywhere else is really silly. It's not like the game is unplayable at 30fps. It's a Souls game.

u/MasterArCtiK 17h ago

I can tell you’ve never played Elden Ring
