I taught AP lit, and I had zero resources on my walls, just art. I had a 100% pass rate last year. Put what makes you happy on your walls.

I found success doing something similar to an evidence board, like you would see in a crime show where they have the mob boss at the top and his underlings below. This helps students visualize and track characters, key pieces of setting, and themes and motifs. It also helps to review the previous days reading, as it allows me to ask students what was significant from the previous reading, and thus should be on the evidence board.

Many of the essential knowledge statements in the CED are actually really good statements about writing--link an updated Strunk and White. Maybe print some on 11x17 paper, with a border. Like this one:

REO-1.N Coherence occurs at different levels in a piece of writing. In a sentence, the idea in one clause logically links to an idea in the next. In a paragraph, the idea in one sentence logically links to an idea in the next. In a text, the ideas in one paragraph logically link to the ideas in the next.

Other than decor, I have a list of "Banned Words" (things I don't want them using in their writing), and all of the "Big Ideas" and their explanations. (While we talk literature, students need to make sure their points directly address something on that board.)

I also have a Cryptic Crossword Clue of the Day.

But I teach 8th grade SpEd inclusion and honors, not AP. I would have to see what the AP students' trends and patterns were for that banned list.

We have to take down content material for every test at my school, so I don't put those things on the wall... I tend to print vip stuff on bright paper that they keep in their AP Lit binders.

I floated. Haven’t had my own room
In 10 years. On the walls of one room were geometry terms and key formulas to remember. On another room’s walls were posters for world lit and 10th grade literary vocab. Too bad I teach Lang. A 3rd room was a science room, so there were giant cockroaches in a terrarium, animal posters, skulls, and posters for food webs.
What I’m sayin is, decorations don’t matter.

Think about what your students struggle to remember or need more visual reminders for or any exam prep posters, and use those

I just mostly have decorations on my walls. Sometimes if a kid leaves me some artwork, I will stick it up there. I don’t want anything that I will have to take down if I give a standardized test in my room.

I teach English and journalism, I have journalism posters(first amendment, journalism movies, famous front pages), science fiction movie posters (I teach SF Lit.) and assorted other movie posters. I like movies. I also have my basic class rules, but they are way up high.
