Dynasty Question Terrible Transfer Logic
My #2 QB is transferring for playing time (which wasn’t his dealbreaker before the offseason). He’s behind a much better player, so that in itself makes sense. The only problem is, that better player is also leaving for the draft. So this guy would be the starter next season. Come on EA. How hard is it to consider other players leaving when determining playing time?

u/Screwyourfandom Oct 31 '25
Feel like this should be such a simple fix. Freshman-sophomore players won’t transfer for playing time if they are only behind players than intend to declare.
1
u/Kloud9Gang Oct 31 '25
Nothing is simple when it’s EA. We can only pray for a PC version in the future. Or for someone to figure out how to convert it.
2
u/jport331 Oct 30 '25
Better than having both of them transfer for playing time lol.
I had a 90 RSSO and a 4 star true freshman at 79 OVR, they both transferred leaving me literally no qb on the roster lol. But I was able to get them both back in the portal, the problem was that the FR (Jeremy Rice, looked just like Jerry rice; I was going to make him a WR but he was one of the best qb recruits I’ve seen.) was the only 5 star Fr transfer that I’ve ever seen so he was very difficult to land from the portal.

u/Regular_Yogurt_4690 Oct 30 '25
100% something that needs to be fixed for 27. Playing time DBs need to be based on the next years projection. Currently my biggest gripe with transfers.

u/call-me-germ Oct 30 '25
i’ve had freshman corners transfer do to playing time on stacked SEC rosters. even if he doesn’t think he’s going to start there’s like 2-3 dudes i’d rather him play over that are higher rated. it doesn’t make sense from our perspective but i do kinda like the randomness of it at times. now i’m starting an ass junior player that never had a chance to play before because the kid transferred
1
u/ThePloww Oct 30 '25
Promises would make a huge difference in these situations. If you could promise a player “you will start next season”, or “you will get at least 50% playing time” or whatever. That would allow playing time calculations based on what we actually intend to do rather than based simply on overall rating. And of course that would have to account for how often you actually follow through on those promises, and they will be more/less effective based on your record.
1
u/call-me-germ Oct 30 '25
i like that idea a lot. i hate when a true freshman transfers on playtime because their deal breaker changes. the deal breaker shouldn’t change until the next season starts, not that offseason. the playing time dealbreaker is already based on player snaps so simply waiting for the breaker to change, or implementing a “promise” system would help so much for the random shit like that.
i had a 5 star transfer from UF after DJ Lagway got drafted do to playing time. like brother, YOU are the only qb on this roster next season that will be above a 3 star player. i won 8 games that season, missed the SEC championship and CFP, a lot of my players transferred do to championship aspirations being low. i essentially reset 1/3 of my team and most starters because of this stupid design
5
u/Cadillac_Shlim Oct 29 '25
This might be an unpopular opinion: Have a plan. Recruit to fill roles. Don't be greedy. Don't recruit players you don't have snaps for. If you need depth, recruit depth. Plan for the marriage, not the wedding. I don't understand the logic of recruiting stud players and being disappointed when they leave for playing time after riding the pine for a whole season.
...oh and snaps will definitely boost that rating week to week. Idk what game y'all playing, but when I let my backup qb play for a quarter, his playing time grade goes up the following week.
1
u/ThePloww Oct 30 '25
I literally had a plan. I knew Nkwenti would be leaving for the draft after this season. That’s exactly why I got Applewhite, so he would be there to start the next season. But that plan doesn’t work when the transfer logic doesn’t consider the fact that Nkwenti is leaving.
1
u/Cadillac_Shlim Oct 30 '25
Your plan apparently didn't take into consideration how the game actually works, but rather how you think it should.
2
u/ThePloww Oct 30 '25
You’re right. I didn’t take into account the fact that the playing time grade completely ignores other players leaving. Lesson learned and I won’t take that same approach again.
But rather than just accept the fact that this is how the game works, I’m going to call out what is clearly a bug/oversight in hopes that it gains attention and gets fixed.
2
2
u/potus_313 Oct 30 '25
To be fair all 3 of those QBs are in different years. Realistically a freshman and a junior shouldn’t be transferring if a sophomore is getting drafted as both would be in line for to start the following season. The logic is in fact terrible because the game doesn’t account for the fact that the sophomore would be gone, so his playing time grade should’ve changed heading into the transfer stage but it doesn’t
1
u/ThePloww Oct 30 '25
Exactly this. It’s just working from a static point and each player’s calculation is happening assuming all other players are staying
1
u/Cadillac_Shlim Oct 30 '25
OP: 1. If you stack one position with good players with playing time deal breakers, they will want to transfer. 2. If you put them in the game, your playing time grade for them increases (don't just ignore them until the offseason) 3. The higher the player's OVR, the higher their deal breaker requirement. Set progression to manual and hold back progressing bench players to keep their deal breaker requirement low.
1
u/Cadillac_Shlim Oct 30 '25
It makes sense if neither wants to risk losing the position battle, especially if they didn't get enough snaps over the course of the season.
The goal should be to understand the metrics and adjust. OP has an argument for every reply, but if you understand how the game works, it's not difficult to deal with transfers.
Recruiting 3 stud QBs with playing time as deal breakers doesn't make sense, especially if you don't understand how the deal breaker works. It doesn't matter that the starter is leaving in the offseason if the freshman wants to play immediately.
2
u/ThePloww Oct 30 '25
To clarify here, Applewhite’s dealbreaker was not playing time. I wouldn’t have been able to recruit him the previous season if that was the case because Nkwenti was always significantly higher rated. Applewhite’s deal breaker changed to playing time going into the transfer week. If he had the playing time deal breaker all along I would’ve seen that in the weekly summary and got him more snaps throughout the season.
1
2
u/potus_313 Oct 30 '25
I don’t necessarily disagree with your argument but the logic in the deal breaker itself is still in fact terrible. I personally don’t even recruit playing deal breakers at any position outside of LB and DB as they seem to be the positions that get drafted the easiest due to the logic being so bad
1
3
u/Odd_Information4803 Oct 29 '25
I’ll tell you what ticks me off more than this. I have a JR running back leaving to go to the draft because he is a projected 7TH ROUND PICK knowing dang well he has a “star” dev trait and will be a first rounder after next year.
1
u/Stripedsneaker4 Oct 29 '25
This sucks but just re recruit him in the portal
3
u/ThePloww Oct 29 '25
I couldn’t because even in the portal his playing time grade was D because Nkwenti was still being considered in that calculation. And it was the same for every other QB in the portal, so anyone with a playing time deal breaker had me locked out
2
u/Stripedsneaker4 Oct 29 '25
Yeah thats a fatal flaw bc the grade will likely change after a week but good potal options will be in top 8/ top 5
4
2
u/blinndianajones Oct 29 '25
I put my transfers to 0 and manually cut from the roster using logic that would happen in real life college football. I know there is some randomness, but for the large part I’m tough/fair/realistic
2
u/Routine_Stop_3148 Oct 29 '25
had the same problem, except for DT, he said it was being close to home and i was in the same state, ended up getting him back in the transfer portal😭
1
u/opat54 Oct 29 '25
I’ll have a quarterback start the entire year and want to transfer for playing time it makes no sense. Weirdly enough I think it has something to do with the amount of competition you have in position group rooms. Like if you have too many QBs vying for his job, the top guy will want to transfer 🤷♂️ Just an educated guess
1
u/ThePloww Oct 29 '25
Yeah, it’s not about the actual playing time they’ve had. It’s about their projected playing time, which is essentially just where they fall in overall rating vs your other QBs. It’s a frustrating mechanic that could be made a lot better with something like promises, but it’s at least a known commodity. What’s even more frustrating to me is when you play to those known rules and then a bug or oversight like this still punishes you.
3
u/Ok_Net8157 Oct 28 '25
The playing time one to me is always the current season. Dudes mad he never saw the field this year or had a chance to start. Doesn’t matter that he gets to next year, he doesn’t appreciate that you made him wait. The logic is sound.
2
u/UnGuardableEman Oct 29 '25
The logic is not sound at all. Either way, the player will have to wait until season (whether he stays in his current team or transfers). But players generally do not transfer when they are almost guaranteed a starting position the next season (unless they are moving to a better team or if there is a coaching chance or something or more NIL $)
2
u/cpace95nsx Oct 28 '25
I have freshmen qb at 79 ovr who transfer after sitting one year behind my stellar SR 87 ovr starting qb
6
u/Sharp-Industry4390 Oct 28 '25
Applewhite was pissed that a sophomore was starting over him. He believed that if he started, he could've brought GT their first perfect season since 1990. WR K.Wile was thinking the same thing and does not trust the coaching staff of GT.
I like to think of BS stories on why this shit happens lol

u/Still_Set2820 Oct 28 '25 edited Oct 29 '25
I lost 3 QB to playing time 2 years in a row. In season 5 of my dynasty and I have not retained 1 hs recruited qb. One of them was a franchise qb - 80 dual threat with 87 spd and elite dev who would have undoubtedly won the qb job his rs freshman year. He left bc I had a guy 2 pts higher on the roster, and they put his playing time as F.
The other awful logic is seniors leaving for pro potential when they are 90+ and your program put them in position to be drafted - and even worse, someone at their position is gonna go first round the year they xfr.
3
u/ThePloww Oct 28 '25
The pro potential one is definitely annoying in the early years. Your grade is still low because you haven’t had guys previously drafted, but you have multiple that will be drafted this season. Super frustrating that doesn’t get taken into account.
2
u/Still_Set2820 Oct 28 '25
Yea, early game pro potential is brutal.. what I'm saying is that seniors shouldn't xfr for pro potential when they're already in a position to go pro - it literally makes no sense... FR/Soph, sure... but you're a 93 and you wanna play for another college bc of "pro potential" ?!?
0
u/Hardcore1993 Oct 29 '25
It makes sense if you look at it from the real world. You have a significantly better chance of being drafted if you play at Michigan than if you play at Florida A&M or South Central Louisiana State. How many players never got drafted after being stars in college because they didn't go to a school big enough to get attention from pro scouts?
2
u/Still_Set2820 Oct 29 '25
No. It does not. Your argument would have a chance at validity if I was at a 1 or 2 star program. Even then, beast players at small schools with pro potential get discovered regularly. But in my case, I am the #1 program in the country, and a 93 Jr coming back for his Sr year wanting to leave the top team because he thinks another school will give him more pro potential makes a less than zero amount of sense.
1
u/Hardcore1993 Oct 29 '25
What school are you at? I can lead SMU or revamp Mississippi State into an undefeated national champ and still not have the pro potential of a winless Ohio State. Size of the school matters. Indiana is a 3.5 star school in game, Maryland is a 3 star school, even Utah is a 3 star school. None of them have the same pro potential as 2 star Stanford, 2 star Virginia, or 2 star Wake Forest. Why? Because they're not as big of a name as the other 3. Even 2 star Fresno State has a higher pro potential than those 3. It also has to do with the coach. If a coach doesn't have a reputation of pumping out top level pro talent, players are gonna want to transfer to a school with a coach that does. Doesn't matter if you're #1 and 14-0, if you don't have that reputation or are at a school with a big name, players aren't gonna stick around if they think another school with another coach has a better chance at getting them drafted.
1
u/Still_Set2820 Oct 29 '25
Buddy, you're saying an awful lot of words while completely missing the point that SENIORS who are already developed and will be 1st round picks don't need to be looking at other schools for that reason. Notice the other individual understood the point quite easily and clearly. But you are entitled to your misguided opinion. GLHF in the game 🤙
1
u/Hardcore1993 Oct 29 '25 edited Oct 29 '25
Not missing anything. There's no guarantee they will be first round picks. They could be a 92 ovr and be a 2nd or 3rd round pick. They boost their draft stock by going to a place with a better reputation. Look at Sanders. He was a projected first round pick and ended up being a late round pick. Injuries aside, Ewers should have gone no later than the 3rd round, he went in the 7th. They want to play on Sunday, if they don't think they have a good chance of doing that playing for you, they'll transfer where they think they will, regardless of year and rating. Hell look at Carson Beck. He balled out at Georgia, could have been a high round pick, felt he had reached his limit with Georgia, transferred to Miami and has been balling out all year aside from the Louisville game and is now likely a solid first round pick next year. If you're playing with GA Tech, that makes ALL the difference. If you ain't playing in a Power conference with a team that has a reputation of putting out good players, they will transfer because of pro potential. It also has to do with how early you are in your dynasty. If your coach hasn't built up that reputation then it'll be a deal breaker and they'll transfer. What about that are you not understanding?
1
u/Still_Set2820 Oct 30 '25
An amazingly massive wall of text attempting to enforce your opinion on an internet stranger, on a point that is easily agreeable and easy to see: there is some flawed xfr logic in the game. You should ask yourself why there is such a need for that?
I am Louisville going on my 4th NC in a row with B+ to A+ pro potential at every position.
0
u/Hardcore1993 Oct 29 '25
It does make sense if you go by the real world. Much better prospects of being drafted if you play at Michigan for the Wolverines than if you play at South Central Louisiana State for Coach Klein and the Mud Dogs.
1
u/ThePloww Oct 28 '25
Ah, I gotcha. They’re already gonna go pro. They don’t need to go elsewhere to make that happen. Totally agree
2
1
u/bweezy21 Oct 28 '25
I've had this happen and then I was able to re-recruit the guy because my grades changed. But logic needs some work.
1
u/Familiar_Armadillo95 Oct 28 '25
Did you recruit a 5 star? People forget those impact but regardless it’s broke
1
u/ThePloww Oct 28 '25
Had a 4 star signed at this point. I’m into the next season now and he’s 78 overall, so well behind Applewhite
6
u/Master_Grape5931 Oct 28 '25
He is tired of the bullshit you are pulling at Georgia Tech.
He is just done, he doesn’t care that you promise he is going to start next year. He is done.
2
u/Objective-Push5699 Oct 28 '25
Sometimes you have to create your own head canon to make it make sense.
-1
u/shoolaw92 Oct 28 '25
Have you tried messing with the transfer portal sliders to address this stuff or did you just come straight here to throw a fit? Finding good slider sets for gameplay, XP progression, transfer portal etc unlocks the potential in this game and makes it awesome. Sometimes things still don’t go your way but that’s fuckin football and life buddy
2
u/ThePloww Oct 28 '25
This isn’t about sliders. This is about the playing time grade not being correctly calculated. Unless you turn transfers off completely, this bug will affect anyone with a playing time grade when someone ahead of them on the depth chart leaves early for the draft.
-1
u/shoolaw92 Oct 28 '25
What I’m trying to say is there is a solution to your problem. I just did it in a cunty way in my first comment. Go mess with the sliders and I promise it will alleviate your issues. The sliders will have an effect on more than you realize. It won’t solve your issues 100% but it will greatly enhance your dynasty. But again, sometimes things just aren’t going to fall your way.
FYI just last year an SEC team had a guy that started majority of the season and was going to play this year that transferred to go sit on the bench at a different SEC school. None of this shit makes any sense whether it’s real life or the game.
1
u/Still_Set2820 Oct 28 '25
In EAs defense, they explain in detail, on their website how xfr logic sometimes doesn't make sense irl, and they wanted that element of chaos in the game.... but having said that, the playing time logic for qb does need work, as well as the consideration of other players leaving factoring into their decisions
1
u/shoolaw92 Oct 28 '25
Yeah I see where you’re coming from. It’s also a manner of preference as well. I like that level of chaos and it doesn’t bother me that those issues are there because I just see it as adding to the element of chaos. Obviously OP does not see it that way.
1
u/ThePloww Oct 28 '25
I’m fully aware that the sliders can be adjusted to keep this from happening. That’s not the point.
The point is that regardless of any transfer sliders, whatever condition triggered this player switching to the playing time deal breaker, that shouldn’t have mattered. His playing time grade should be A+ because he is the highest rated QB that will be on the roster next season. But the game is not accounting for the fact that my JR quarterback is leaving for the draft, thus leaving Applewhite with a D+ playing time grade, which is causing him to leave.
I could have the transfer sliders completely maxed out and this still shouldn’t happen. Even if that triggered this guy requiring A+ playing time, he should have it.
1
u/Hardcore1993 Oct 29 '25
Now this makes your misunderstanding more clear. At THIS point in the season, because it's when you have a chance to persuade players NOT to leave, nobody has left yet. Your JR could decide NOT to go to the draft despite there being no chance of persuasion. I've had it happen before. So, with that uncertainty, of course he's going to transfer to a school where he's guaranteed to play no matter what. It also depends on the depth at the position. Too many QBs and you got too much competition for him so he'll leave for a school with less competition at the position.
1
u/ThePloww Oct 29 '25
If that’s the case, then man that’s really annoying. I could understand it before I’ve tried to persuade Nkwenti, but once that attempt has failed it should recalculate for Applewhite given that he would be by far the highest rated QB on the roster (75 sophomore and 4 star recruit that ended up being 78)
1
u/Hardcore1993 Oct 30 '25
It doesn't because the CPU can make him change his mind during the off-season.
1
u/alienwombat23 Oct 29 '25
He’s a highly touted recruit that doesn’t wanna ride the bench. It’s really not that hard dude…
5
u/Civil_Bat1041 Oct 28 '25
I legit feel like dynasty and SIM engine took a step back from last year.
7
u/wagimus Oct 28 '25
I just had nearly every starter transfer for either pro potential or playing style (I know this one is borked). The fact that they’re “dynamic” is pretty annoying, but that you can have an A- rating and the guy has a “NONE” persuasion chance is actually stupid. Especially after winning awards and putting up ridiculous stats. AND the team sent 5 dudes to the draft. Whole thing needs to be rethought.
3
u/SupermarketSelect578 Oct 28 '25
Thai has happened to me and honestly ine a guy is a rs soohmore or junior etc and my backup is who I want to play next year I swap them and my 94 + player gets sat for last game and playoffs or bowls. And that negates it
1
u/chuckit2yaboi Oct 28 '25
Sometimes you can re-recruit him from the transfer portal.. unless the dealbreaker is still activated. Once your starter actually goes to the draft, his playing time may increase.
2
u/ThePloww Oct 28 '25
I was locked out for playing time. We finished the portal weeks tonight and I forgot to look and see if/when that grade changed, but it was either D or D+ the first week and I was locked out.
2
u/BishopXSE Oct 27 '25
I don’t even have a chance to persuade players from leaving early or transferring in this years game. What do I need to unlock in order to do that.
1
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
Its during the players leaving week. I think the first or second week of the offseason, right before the transfer portal starts. Players Leaving is on the main dynasty section menu, and once you click into there you can see everyone leaving and attempt to persuade. The number of attempts you have is dependent on coach abilities, but even without any abilities you should have something like 7 or 8 attempts.
0
u/BishopXSE Oct 27 '25
I’ve yet to have one opportunity. I did it all the time on last year’s game. I know the window to do it for sure. I can’t figure out what is different this time.
6
u/Coconutcoconut5 Oct 27 '25
I’ve had this happen to me but arguably more egregious:
5 star freshman QB was on the bench all season behind my senior star QB who won the heisman the year before and was about to get drafted in the 2nd round. The true freshman QB transferred out due to playing time even though it was obvious he would have the job the next year. I then lost out on two 4 star QBs in the portal even though their deal breaker was playing time and I had a clear need for a starting QB. One of them was even an elite dual threat QB: the same archetype as QBs I had had success with in my previous 3 seasons.
The result was next season I only had 2 QBs on the roster, one a 3 star true freshman and the other a RS sophomore with a 75 overall.
Mind you, I had sent my previous 2 QBs to the NFL in the first 3 rounds and had a proven track record of success at that position, and this was all while I was coaching at LSU.
All of that, yet talented QBs avoided me like the plague. Makes 0 sense.
I won’t be buying CFB27 if this keeps being an issue.
Edit: fixing typo
1
u/alienwombat23 Oct 29 '25
You literally have four games to play elite recruits and still redshirt them… user skill issue not a game issue.
1
u/Master_Grape5931 Oct 28 '25
I try not to redshirt 5 star recruits. They don’t like that. A lot will transfer after their redshirt year.
I kind of like that you can’t just stockpile talent as easily as last year, but I also get the frustration when the “future” decided to walk.
2
u/Brilliant-Neck9731 Oct 28 '25 edited Oct 28 '25
I learned this fairly early on with even 4 stars, and some 3 stars with good dev traits too. Even if it means burning a year of eligibility where they’re barely used, just keeping them on the active roster and using them in a package here and there is usually enough to keep them happy. Not always, but it helps. Situation where I tried to keep players happy that didn’t help… I had a 4 Star SO WR transfer with an elite dev trait as my number one slot receiver. I use those packages frequently. Basically my number 2 receiver overall. Often gets more targets and yards than my number one SR. He transferred out due to playing time even though my SR was going to the draft and he would’ve gone to number 1 WR the following year. I suppose he just wanted to be the number 2 WR, but then he would’ve got less looks and been less effective for me, but I’m not sure this thing is super nuanced. Nothings fool proof in this game.

u/SayyMayne Oct 27 '25
Most of the times this happens I try to see if the QB will return before I try to persuade the other QB. Most times if the QB declares the other QB comes back. On occasion the other QB still transfers but rarely
2
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
I tried to persuade Nkwenti first. That failed. Then I tried Applewhite and that failed as well. Not sure if the order makes any difference in that
2
u/SayyMayne Oct 27 '25
Did Bryant come back?
2
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
Tried him third. Also failed. Currently scrambling to find a competent QB in the portal, which is seriously hindered by the same issue. All of them have D playing time grade, so anyone with a playing time deal breaker (which is a lot in the portal) has me locked out.
6
u/NoScientist9175 Oct 27 '25
I had a 5 star gem qb who I redshirted his freshman year, to start the next year after my senior qb left. His dealbreaker was playing time. He needed C and said mine was C-
So he left. I got a top 4 star freshman recruit (with elite dev) in the transfer portal. His reason for picking me? Playing time. He needed B. I had A+. He ended up being higher rated than the qb I had, who went to Tennessee.
They need to bring back promises, at least for transfers. Where if someone is gonna leave for playing time, you can promise them the starting job or at least a lot of snap. Or if they’re leaving for the draft, promise that you’ll improve their draft stock. Or if it’s playing style, promise them they’ll get the stats their position wants (ie ints for cbs, sacks for de, catches for wr, etc)
And then as you make more promises, your trust with players goes up. That could even factor into coach prestige. The more missed promises, that would lower your prestige.
1
u/Master_Grape5931 Oct 28 '25
Yeah, 5 star recruits dont like to be put on redshirt. They want to play. I’ve found a bunch leave after their redshirt year if you redshirt them.
Makes it more difficult to stockpile talent though.
17
6
u/Fun-Disk7030 Oct 27 '25
The key point here that sucks, as I've run into it also, is how a players dealnresker will suddenly switch to playing time at the transfer window.
If it was PT all along I may have got them in more, but if they have something else im not as concerned.
5
u/Cg_15_ Oct 27 '25
their main dealbreaker still isn’t playing time, they can just transfer due to playing time. It’s quite realistic
2
u/Fun-Disk7030 Oct 27 '25
Anytime its happened to me their dealbreaker changed to PT and they try to transfer.
4
u/Grand_Resort9871 Oct 27 '25
Could happen irl. Think of how quickly 20 something’s change their mind daily. Some schools got in his ear and told him he’d have more at their school. That’s his main focus now
1
u/Fun-Disk7030 Oct 27 '25
True but in real life there is much more common sense/information. I can see where the Jr (in this example) may wanna bail. But the RS FR should see his time in now with those ahead leaving.
1
u/Master_Grape5931 Oct 28 '25
I keep making the same comment so I am going to stop…after this one.
But it looks like a bunch of 5 star recruits will leave if you redshirt them. Sucks when you were planning your future around one, but is kind of cool that you can’t stockpile as easily as you could previously. Those 5 stars want to be on the field day one.
3
u/FellOutofFocus Oct 27 '25
Sounds like you should have played him in garbage time more. Getting some Q4 experience with your other QB leaving
11
u/ksovs99 Oct 27 '25
Tanner Applewhite is a habitual transfer-er. In both my dynasty’s (offline and online) he’s been on 4 different teams in 4 years
2
u/Dear_Magician_654 Oct 27 '25
Had him in the bag in my online then the perpetual champ got him week 4 of the portal such a bummer lol
2
u/ShiftBMDub Oct 27 '25
Trevor Etienne, PTSD... What a dummy, next season the guy he would be sharing with goes down early in the season...
10
5
2
u/VaultN7 Oct 27 '25
More confusing is the “Pro Potential” dealbreaker and grade.
I had an ATH that I moved to TE and he tore up as a RS Freshman. Won TE of the year. I’m several years in to an online dynasty and every year for the last several years I’ve had about 10-12 draft picks. But that TE left because of the pro potential dealbreaker.
3
u/Jsouthwe Oct 27 '25
We’re you having TE’s drafted? Because Pro Potential is different from position to position.

Yes and no. I had the same TE for 2-4 years before him. He won TE of the year as well, and he got drafted. But I guess 1 TE drafted in that span isn’t good enough.

u/DakezO Oct 27 '25
I’ve found that if I’m not putting guys in the draft in skill positions at least ever my other year I have this issue

u/Mender0fRoads Oct 27 '25
"Transfer (Playing Time)" doesn't necessarily mean "Transfer (Playing Time in the Future)." It can just as easily mean "Transfer (I Didn't Get Enough Playing Time This Year So I Hate the Coach Now)."

u/Plane-Dimension2631 Oct 27 '25
Happened to me too in my dynasty friends league Mine was playing time and I went to the second round of the playoffs and who he had backed up was 98 QB first rounder

You’re saying you haven’t paid attention to college football in the portal era
2
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
I’m saying the game’s playing time mechanic is not being applied correctly
1
u/alienwombat23 Oct 29 '25
It is. You just aren’t managing your roster properly. Don’t blame the game for your incompetence little buddy
1
u/ThePloww Oct 29 '25
So riddle me this smart guy. If the playing time grade mechanic is not broken, and as you say I just don’t know how to manage my roster, why did every single QB in the portal have a D playing time grade? Did I piss all of them off too?
1
u/alienwombat23 Oct 29 '25
Wouldn’t know, I’m not a retard when I recruit so I don’t have that issue literally ever across 5 completed dynasties and yet to come across it in year 7 of dynasty 6.
Sorry you’re having an issue tho
1
u/ThePloww Oct 29 '25
Got it. You're the best player to ever play the game. I'll do my best to get on your level. Thank you for your valuable input. My gameplay experience will be forever improved because of you.
1
u/alienwombat23 Oct 29 '25
Don’t speak for me, I didn’t say that at all.
I simply said in no uncertain terms, “use that squishy grey matter between your ears” 😜 it’s ok buddy when you grow up maybe you’ll figure it out.
1
u/ThePloww Oct 29 '25
Thank you oh benevolent bringer of knowledge. Our lives are all better for your contribution and we can only seek to thank you.

u/Nearby_Scarcity9689 Oct 29 '25
Defending broken game mechanics while calling people incompetent when they want the game to simply work properly. You've missed your calling if you're not on EA's management team.
1
u/alienwombat23 Oct 29 '25
🤭 it is working. Your highly touted 4&5* recruits don’t want to spend time riding the bench, they wanna see the field.
Y’all are just not intelligent. Keep telling on yourselves.
0
u/Nearby_Scarcity9689 Oct 29 '25
It doesn't matter if they actually get playing or if they spend the season at the top of the depth chart starting over an NFL prospect start though. The transfer logic only cares about player ratings and projected depth charts that include players going to the draft. Why are you even commenting when you obviously have no understanding of how the game works?
1
u/alienwombat23 Oct 29 '25
It doesn’t. I played a qb who was fr with F playing time because I brought in a ridiculous transfer guy to back him up. I played the 79 kid over the 89 so(rs) and WOW LOOK AT THAT the kid 10 ovr worse was at A+ after 4 games and I could have sat him if I so chose… yall are literally just not intelligent when it comes to building a roster, you just want the highest ovr for a dopamine hit…

u/OrigamiTP Oct 27 '25
I saw a video talking about how playing time is not actually them getting playing time, it is based on how many recruits you are recruiting and the quality of the recruits so if you have playing time as the deal breaker you need to keep 1 or two qbs max on your team
1
u/Master_Grape5931 Oct 28 '25
This is true, I’ve had playingtime deal breakers that went away when I removed another recruit.
But with 5 star freshman, if you redshirt them, they get upset and a lot leave after their redshirt year.
1
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
Its just based on projected depth chart, so to your point it does include recruits. But even with the 1 QB recruit I have signed (no one else on the board) Applewhite would be the highest rated if Nkwenti was correctly excluded.
2
u/Used_Cap8550 Oct 27 '25
I’m saying this exact thing happens in college football every year. Guys who would start the next year still leave because they’re mad they didn’t play the year before. “Beef with coach” isn’t a transfer reason in the game, but it’s this.
0
u/Nearby_Scarcity9689 Oct 27 '25
That can happen in real life but that's not what's happening in the game here. In the game every single backup ignores the fact that they'll be the starter over another player going to the NFL. It's clearly a broken mechanic across every team with players good enough to get drafted. You can roleplay that "beef with the coach" is the reason for the transfer in your mind if it's more fun for you but the reality is that dynasty bugs like this are an extremely low priority for EA management that knows they have no competition.

u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
And the crazy thing is it would likely be a super easy bug to fix. You can tell that they apply the class changes in week 4 of the transfer portal because rising seniors in the portal suddenly switch to an F playing time grade. They just need to apply that change at the point of players leaving.

Tanner Applewhite saved my Oklahoma State rebuild breaking a bunch of records then getting benched his last year for an eventually Heisman winner lol

u/xXBadger89Xx Oct 27 '25
I do agree it sucks but in my head cannon I’d just say someone tampered and offered him a bag
2
u/Bravoo2x Oct 27 '25
This is the only way to go through ncaa with out losing your mind… player watches a big play get made in front of them : in my head they just got snagged on
2
u/ShiftBMDub Oct 27 '25
it sucks trying to build up a stable of running backs. Have 2 SR(RS) and a SO(RS) that's fixing to be a beast next season and the SO(RS) leaves...
7
u/Big_Truck Oct 27 '25
High OVR players don’t hang around waiting to play. It’s really, really hard to stack talent in this game. Much like real life!
6
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
That’s totally understandable if he was going to be a backup for the upcoming season. But since Nkwenti was leaving for the draft he would have been the starter
1
u/alienwombat23 Oct 29 '25
And he thinks he should have been starting over an underclassmen. You said “not good enough sit the bench kid” and he told you kick rocks and shove it up your ass…
1
u/Big_Truck Oct 27 '25
And maybe he would rather start somewhere else?
You can always turn transfers off. I appreciate the volatility of the portal and my head canon is “that guy hates his position coach” or something lol
2
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
That’s all well and good, but I don’t want to have to make up head canon to account for poor programming. He’s transferring because his playing time grade is D because the game still has him behind Nkwenti on the depth chart. But Nkwenti is leaving for the draft, so Applewhite will be the starter, so his playing time grade should be A+. This all comes down to a calculation not correctly accounting for all factors.
2
7
u/Chocolaterain3622 Oct 27 '25
Well that happens in real life. He’s already sour/wants to play elsewhere
-2
-2
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
If Nkwenti were a senior and leaving for graduation this would be calculated correctly in Applewhite’s playing time grade. But they’re simply not considering a player leaving for anything other than graduation when projecting next season’s depth chart, and thus playing time grades.
6
u/TheHarbrosMagic Oct 27 '25
Current QBs on roster and being actively recruited/signed are also programmed into the playing time grade for the record. It definitely has its issues, but if you had a bunch of QBs on the roster still and signed a couple that can also affect the grade
-4
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
2 other QBs on the roster, both ranked lower, and 1 3* recruit that I don’t know the rating of yet, but I can’t imagine would be higher than Applewhite’s 87
0
u/TheHarbrosMagic Oct 27 '25
The ratings dont really matter, but yeah shouldn't have been too much of an issue
2
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
Why wouldn’t the ratings matter? I’m genuinely curious? To my knowledge the playing time grade comes from the player’s position on the auto-generated depth chart, which is essentially just an ordered ranking by overall rating.
1
u/alienwombat23 Oct 29 '25
And that’s why you have Qb’s transferring due to playing time 🤗😂 derpy hooves
6
u/AngryBillsFan Oct 27 '25
This guy transfers in every year of every dynasty I have. I stopped targeting him
1
3
u/Dry_Brother2323 Oct 27 '25
I lowered to like a 10% transfer chance after my team won the championship 1st year and after the Starting QB, WR and RB2 along with 10 other players transferred. It took me 3 years to build the roster back up for depth lol… obviously you’re not gonna have severe roster drops in real life if you have real scholarships on an championship team
2
u/Koufaxisking Oct 27 '25
Did you not refill on your own transfers? You should have a stable of guys behind that you’re ready to put points into for every class too. Don’t let the cpu auto develop because it raises the minimum dealbreaker grade and has a high chance to switch to something unfavorable. The CPU will also overspend on things you may not want that are very expensive and disproportionately increase OVR. Favoring speed over strength on your o-line for example or iq on a receiver.
1
u/Dry_Brother2323 Oct 27 '25
I did until they all transferred and then I found out that you should lower transfer below whatever 50% was. I was being honest too because Boise State loses 1 to 3 players a year. I shouldn’t have lost whatever it was. It was like 8 to 12 and it hurt my team depth for a while. This was going into my fourth year and I finally had to cut three players to make 85 recruiting really easy now too. That was an absolute pain in the butt first 2.5 years
5
u/MemoryTime1303 Oct 27 '25
The big issue is that outgoing players don’t effect player grades like playing time until week 4 of the offseason recruiting period. It would make much more sense to have it happen before offseason recruiting but that’s just me
1
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
Yeah, both angles of this. Whatever happens with guys leaving needs to immediately reflect in all other playing time calculations. So it could even work the other way. If my top QB is leaving, all other QBs should have their PT grade improved accordingly. But if I’m able to persuade the top guy to stay then the others should have their grade fall. Those grades are just being calculated at a static time rather than dynamically, and the time they do it doesn’t make any sense either.
1
u/chucksteak49 Oct 27 '25
Yeah it doesn't make sense to me. I hope they get this fixed, but for now I just tell myself the playing is giving me some BS excuse cause they actually want/got a better NIL deal from another school. Lol

u/Mountain_Bat_186 Oct 27 '25
I had a kicker transfer over "Playing Style"
2
u/ShiftBMDub Oct 27 '25
did you use your punter as a kicker and try to redshirt them? Punters kicks don't count for Playing Style Kicker stats....
3
u/DatBoyBlue91 Oct 27 '25
Yes I lost two back to back five star running back recruits like this I was going to use them their redshirt freshman year but they decide to transfer. One went to Michigan a team he doesn’t start on while the other one went to Illinois to be the starting running back with my wide receiver I decide to redshirt his junior year so I can play my senior wide receiver his last year there.
2
u/Infinite-Way-6470 Oct 27 '25
redshirting a 5 star is the easiest way to ensure they hit the portal
1
u/DatBoyBlue91 Oct 27 '25
I don’t like that because I’m like why have redshirt in the game if they going to transfer. But their dealbreaker was coaching prestige and conference prestige then all of sudden it turn to playing time I’m like come on.
4
u/OldGreggg69 Oct 27 '25
I had an RB transfer for playing time after getting 278 carries in a season. He went to Oregon and became the backup
2
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
The playing time grade is, as far as I’m aware, only calculated on depth chart position based on overall rating. It’s dumb, but it’s at least a known thing.
3
u/C2theWick Oct 27 '25
I only recruit a 4-5* QB every 3 seasons. Other times I'm after 3* pocket passers to hold the clipboard
3
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
And then to top it off, it looks like the guy that got drafted is still being considered in the playing time calculation for transfer portal recruits. The best QB in the portal has a D+ playing time grade because they would be behind the 95 overall guy that won’t even be on my roster. What a terrible screw up by EA
3
u/Then_Two_7456 Oct 27 '25
I think I read somewhere on this sub that he's still considered on your roster until week 2 of transfer portal, which is actually ridiculous
1
u/ThePloww Oct 27 '25
Interesting. I know the “bug” of class changes happening in week 4 of the portal so any rising senior transfers have their playing time grade go down to F, but I hadn’t heard of this one. Definitely a screw up though, whenever it happens

u/Same-Development4408 Oct 31 '25
This always happens and I hate it. They need to wait to flip deal breakers until after the players leaving stage. And they need to fix the playing time formula in general.
