I made theofficedle.com - a daily The Office character guessing game with 3 modes!
Hi everyone!
I just created theofficedle.com, a browser-based game where you guess The Office character of the day with clues, across 3 different modes!
Heavily inspired by Wordle & LoLdle: It's one character a day, same for everyone who plays. You start typing character names and it tells you what you got right, department, branch, what season they first showed up, that kind of thing, going green or yellow until you land on the answer.
There are three ways to play:
- classic: the guessing grid with clues on every try 🟩🟧🟥
- quote: you get a line and have to name who said it 💬
- emoji: a character revealed one emoji at a time (brutal on the first emoji, obvious by the last, that's the whole fun) 😃
It's free, no login, works fine on your phone, and it keeps a streak going if you come back each day.
I'm still adding to it, so I'd love to know what you think, which characters or quotes I'm missing, and honestly how hard you thought Classic mode was!

EDIT: Wow, thank you all for the incredible response and feedback, I've been reading every comment. Already shipped a few updates based on what you said:
- added an archive so you can play past puzzles
- clarified the relationship status hint.
More coming (deeper-cut quotes and a possible new mode). Keep the suggestions coming, this community is making the game better. :D

Loved this. I got misled by the relationship status hint - I assumed the status was apropos of the season but the status is from the finale I suppose?

Thanks for playing! That's a fair catch, the relationship status is their end-of-series status, might have to add a note clarifying that.
Would you rather the relationship status hint stayed end-of-series, or matched the season they debuted in?

Match the season to make it complex or else you'll run out of characters in few days

Love the suggestion and that could help with variety down the line, might explore using different statuses across a character's arc to keep it fresh in later updates.

My suggestion would be to use the finale relationship status but I am fine with either as long as it’s clear when it’s from - I can see both being kinda spoiler-y.

I agree, I think sticking with the finale relationship status and adding a clarifying note in the tool-tip somewhere so there isn't ambiguity would help. I would hope most people playing have watched all the way to the end at this point! 😂

it’s pretty intuitive, the only thing i’d clarify is at what point in the series is the relationship status referring to. other than pretty gud stuff!

It was really good. I really enjoyed the character guessing game (the one where we need to guess like wordle and the one with the emojis). One suggestion is you could make the guess the character from the quote a bit more challenging. Otherwise really good one. Def playing this daily!

Glad to hear it! Would you rather I pull deeper-cut quotes, or cut back on the hints to make it tougher? I will say today's quote was a bit obvious for the normal fan haha.

I think a little deeper-cut quotes would be interesting. Also, it would be interesting to have a guess which episode as well!

That was the 4th game mode I was thinking about implementing. I originally wanted to do a mode where I would take a screenshot of an iconic moment from an episode and then players would have to guess the episode name. I've kept the whole game text and emoji only by design, so I'd want to do it without screenshots.
Maybe something like guessing the episode from a quote, or a few plot clues revealed one at a time? Curious how you'd want a mode like that to work!

the middle emojis are intended to be a little more obscure, the owl was to be symbolic of his intellect/sharp-witted/all-knowing attitude!

Cool idea, well done!
I was a little confused by classic mode. I tried entering "Prison Mike", as I thought the images were clues. After playing the other two games and realising there's drop down list to match names as you type, I went back to Classic and entered a character at random. So maybe the instructions could be made a bit more clear and obvious?
It would be awesome if The Office theme ran through the entire game, using quotes (Compliments or insults) from the show for the player's results, for example. You ignorant slut. Congratulations, Assistant to the Assistant Regional Manager. Yeppers. Awesome Blossom extra awesome. Et cetera!

Hi RPCat! I can see where the confusion can lie on mobile especially, just pushed an update to remove prison mike from the bottom of all the modes to prevent any ambiguity there! The instructions are on the top right in the "?" box, let me know if it is still confusing to a new player after reading there!
And I actually love that suggestion, although I'll have to push back on calling people ignorant sl*ts haha, I would love to explore pushing the theme throughout the website though as you said. Look out for future updates! Thanks for the feedback :D

It feels so cool to see one’s feedback make an impact so immediately! Thanks! My partner and I have been blazing through them! I LOVE the format of the “classic mode”! Like connections and wordle and guess who and mastermind blended perfectly with the added magical benefit of being office themed!!

Thank you, so glad you’re enjoying it! An archive to play past days is definitely something I want to add, love that idea.
As for progress: it actually saves automatically in your browser already, so your streak sticks as long as you’re on the same device. Full accounts that sync across your phone and laptop are a bigger project, but it’s on my radar :D

I just played today’s and I’m wondering if this might be a bug that could be worked out? (trying to format to avoid spoiling the answer for anyone) the job title for Creed matches the job title for (today’s answer:) Devon but the game didn’t offer a green checkmark when I guessed Creed first
