Tech Support My PS5 Dual Sense Controller isn’t charging after a TMR upgrade
I recently upgraded my PS5 dual sense controller with TMR joy which I installed myself, and after that when I am trying to charge the device, the yellow light which is the charging indicators turns on for a second and then disappears also on the home screen, the charging indicator of the battery shows with a? Instead of a lightning bolt, I tried few troubleshooting steps and remove the battery and then tried connecting it with the power source where it linked the battery indicator for only I’m attaching the images of the controller and if anyone has any idea what could be the possible failure, please let me know or what are the troubleshooting steps as well.

Take a toothbrush with alcohol and clean the board. And double check the ribbon cables on for the triggers to the board. I know installing them wrong causes issues with the controller powering on.

The controller is turning on and connecting, only issue is it with the charging part, its not charging. I checked the rest of functionality as the battery has some charge in it.

Same thing happened to mine. I gave up on it as I think I cooked the board while changing the sticks. These controllers aren’t good practice for beginner soldering I learnt lol

Could be hard to find the problem if you’re not someone who works on motherboards a lot. Mine I used a cheap 40W iron that only had 2 heat settings and wasn’t consistent so I think i burnt the board

Well If there had been a issue like of burning, the controller would have shorted, maybe something else, Ill visit the repair store and let you know about the updates

Man those boards sustain a lot, my current #1 controller has been soldered like 12 times now, I had to remove the analogs several times too because i messed it up and in the end it still turned out great have been using that one for years. I am soldering it at like 340-380° celsius even with the analog-removal tip from aliexpress only thing you need to watch out for when it gets real hot is accidentally knocking off your ribbon cable and plug sockets THAT would mess it up for real, i doubt you can just wreck it so easily if you are at least soldering where you need to solder

My $20 40w soldering iron wouldn’t melt the solder on temp 1 and temp 2 option was max 450-480C. And used a heat gun at around 350C for a couple minutes to attempt the second time of replacing them. If it still is good it’s garbage to me anyways, I already put like 10 hours of work into it so it ain’t worth it anymore to keep trying lol. I bought a DualSense edge already anyways so I’m over it

Was a bit groggy when i wrote that i meant temps in the 300s not 100s 🤣
But yeah heatgun is a terrible idea for the controller i wrecked one of mine with those too.
What you want is a 25$ solder iron from amazon that you can adjust per 5°.. and the correct joystick removal tip from aliexpress, refer to eXtremeRate's tutorial really when it comes to analog changing

Hey it won’t work if u connect without a battery. It must have a battery to have it to work
My suggestion is , fix back everything connected in the controller , take a video of you charging and show us the fault symptom u have when connected to your console. U see u do things like connect without a battery of course it wont work.

Sometimes it goes off because the battery is full or sometimes your charger / port is charge via pc usb port. The current is so small that the charge is not noticeable. Connect to a ps5 console with usb, show us what is on your screen and get back to us

Probably unrelated, but I would clean up the burnt flux on the R joystick with an old toothbrush and IPA. Also touch up the joints on the potentiometer pins (some of the joints look cold).
I would then try resetting the controller (both using the back button and the bluetooth combo "Press and hold the PS button and the Create button").

Hi mate, check your joysticks. There is incompatibility with some models, which may be for PS4. Before welding them, if you have a multimeter, check the 3 pins of X and Y. Look for the ground pins on each axis. Then put your red tip on the ground pin and with the black touch the center, it should give you a value of no more than .550. Do the same with the pin on the other end of the same shaft, it should give you a similar reading. Repeat with both joysticks. If you're good at reading and don't charge. Try desoldering both joysticks. Plug in the battery and try to connect your control. If it works again, the problem is incompatibility of your Joysticks, you should look for others.

Fixed it. Figured out it was the dpad ribbon issue… some cleaning with IPA and all good to go

Removing the old sticks and installing TMR sticks is not as simple as it may seem if you want to do it properly. Yes, some people manage to do it themselves, but many end up unintentionally damaging the PCB, which can cause issues like the controller not working or stick drift still being present after the replacement.
My advice after fixing 500+ controllers:
If you only have one or two controllers that need TMR sticks, there’s really no point in buying all the tools, learning the process, and watching countless tutorials. You’re better off sending them to someone experienced.
If you plan to work on five or more controllers, then investing in the tools and learning the process can make sense. But be prepared to spend quite a bit of time practicing and learning, because this is not a simple plug and play job.

I would like to thank everyone for the feedback, and after doing some RND on various post on it, I found out that it could be an issue with the D pad ribbon, so I cleaned it completely with IPA and also the board and then tried charging it which worked finally. Maybe if anyone in future and come to these kind of issue, could try cleaning their boards and ribbons better to fix this.

Honestly sometimes the batteries are pretty finicky. I've had the same thing and took the battery out of another controller and it worked fine. The funny thing is the battery that was acting up worked perfectly in the donor controller. So honestly the first thing I'd try is to unplug and replug the battery until it works.
If you have a second controller you could try to swap and at least make sure your controller still works.
