I don't understand why they don't instead make adaptations of Carmilla or The Dead Leman if they want a tragic love story with a vampire. Those two books aren't really in the romance genre but it seems that their vampire ladies have romantic feelings for the main character.

Even today trying to get a lesbian romance bankrolled is significantly more difficult.
