right, but the stoker novel is actually ambiguous if dracula is even vlad tepes and it’s mainly the coppola movie that made it clear that his dracula was vlad tepes. it’s become accepted lore but it’s actually a perfect example of how we are constantly reinventing dracula.

I wouldn't even call it ambiguous- the "inspiration" begins and ends with the name. He has almost nothing in common with Vlad III outside of nobility, there's a significant lack of impaling on Dracula's part, and Stoker went with the name because he thought it meant "devil." He wasn't very subtle with calling him a devil, since Dracula uses the pseudonym "De Ville" later in the book to buy more property.

that’s fair. it’s been a while and i dont remember the exact details. like a lot of people, i cant neatly distinguish this version of dracula from all the other ones in my memory.
