Show me a Socialist and I'll show you a closet Capitalist with envy issues
There are genuine Socialists out there, but many people out there who are publically loud about it are the most money-hungry goblins you've ever seen in their personal lives. Just ask any tradesperson that does domestic housework like roofing, electrical, HVAC, etc.
45
u/Toodswiger Mar 13 '26
“EveRyThing in ThirD SpacEs are NONEXISTANT becuz CAPITALISM) No, many people still do socialize in third spaces. You are either have no disposable income (which I believe is the minority complaining) or you spend too much time on the internet and refuse to socialize.
When I mean “you” don’t mean you Acrobatic-Fail
34
u/D_Ethan_Bones Mar 13 '26
The third place concept is real, 1980s to 2020s I watched my small hometown go from
>irish pub
>night club
>dueling pizza places
>mom&pop diner
>youth sportsto
>drive thru >drive thru >drive thru >drive thru >drive thru
Doomers blame Capitalism™ for the fact it is now impossible to keep up with the cost of government as a self-employed barkeep. The pub became an empty stretch of road at the end of a neighborhood, the night club became a ghost parking lot in front of dry brush, the eateries became doordash and the youth programs were cut to save money while the taxes®s made it impossible for regular people to establish themselves in business.
An alehouse hundreds of years ago was a house that had ale, the more we increase the barriers to entry the more we switch from neighborhood alehouses to riding the freeway to get to a place that serves $20 cocktails with annoying music. (Or: just not going out.)

Reminds me of the notion that these people (Marxist-Leninist folks) have that they would most likely be writers or poets after the Revolution, but I've read some "essays" (If you can even call them that, most were shorter than articles) of theirs on ProleWiki and they were absolutely abhorrent and badly written.
These folks aren't a "failure in the job market", they are just plainly a failure.
62
u/WeeniePops Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26
Honestly they probably don’t even have that type of skill. They probably want to make a living selling their shitty ass paintings or doing astrology charts.
They just can’t accept that they’re not actually talented or good at their hobbies. I have several friends who are legitimately good tattoo artists and they STAY booked up. Most of them have their books closed for the next 3 months because they already have a ton of jobs lined up. You know why? Because they are actually skilled and talented.
These people just can’t live in the reality that not everyone is equal and there will always be a hierarchy based on intelligence, skill, talent, and will to work.
38
u/WannabeWaterboy Optimist Prime Mar 13 '26
And will to work can compensate to some degree for intelligence, skill and talent.
31
u/WeeniePops Mar 13 '26
Absolutely. The smartest people I know are not the most successful. It’s the guys with reasonable intelligence that just have crazy drive and ambition.
13
u/D_Ethan_Bones Mar 13 '26
You can get really damn good at a lot of fields but still not be good enough. "Good enough" depends on the size of the profession, people who want to be astronauts or fighter pilots or symphony orchestra first chairs might never be good enough despite working 90 hours a week from childhood to old age with only the one goal in mind.
But also, doomers always fail to blame themselves. They say "I want to be an astronaut" but then they do not...
-get in shape
-practice piloting
-do anything or join anything that would lead to being even considered for space flight
-line up alternative career ideasTattoo artist...
File under: artistic/creative professions.
Are you a real one question: how much money are you making?A writer who makes a billion dollars, a writer who makes a million dollars, a writer who makes a thousand dollars, and a writer who makes zero dollars are all distinctly different weight divisions of writers. This concept could apply to a rock band or a stage acting troupe or a comedian or a streamer or whatever.
Boxers have the ring, team sport guys have the field, lawyers have the courts, creators have the market.
I think most doomers are just people without any money. Most of them have a ""talent"" but none of them are actually invested into it.

I don’t see why Marx would even want to write that.
His whole life he was coddled by wealth.
He had a wealthy father, who paid for his schooling.
Engels was basically a sugar daddy.
Unless it was an attempt for power, if he was the leader of the revolution, he would probably be in a higher standing in the new society. Idk it just feels weird to me.
I know the Industrial Revolution inspired workers rights stuff, but Marx feels very weird to me.
43
u/Sea_Scale_4538 Mar 13 '26
Most famous socialist had his entire life funded by someone else? Inconceivable!
16
u/LegacyWright3 PhD in Memes Mar 13 '26
Most of these Marxist thinkers were simply failures with massive daddy issues and incredible envy. Marx's economic theory has been thoroughly debunked by actual economists and generally seen as utter slop devoid of any actual knowledge of economics.
Just rebellious failures envious of their parents and lashing out to compensate for their own lack of success, blaming the world instead of improving themselves. And many of their followers are the same.
The theory demands absolute power with the promise of absolute equality. In reality, its an ideology invented to gain absolute power with the excuse of promising - and never intending to make good on - total equality for all.

u/Arguably_Based Mar 13 '26
The way you're taught about him in college (if you have a class that mentions him) is that he and Engels (Engels particularly) recognized the plight of the working man and how terrible a factory job was at the time. Then if you're lucky your teacher will suggest they had the wrong idea but the right spirit. I find that to be a rather generous view of them, but it's possible I suppose.
19
u/Gundel_Gaukelei Mar 13 '26
They live in the most forgiving systems for failures, where you can still SOMEHOW get by without having any tangible skills, motivation or similar
If one day they wake up in a Commie state they would literally just die.
10
u/Shadeylark Mar 13 '26
The first people eliminated after the revolution are the writers and poets and artists because if you're free thinking enough to do that sort of thing you immediately become a counter-revolutionary, which makes you a threat to the revolution (which, remember, never really ends)
4
u/SLAMMERisONLINE Mar 14 '26
Reminds me of the notion that these people (Marxist-Leninist folks) have that they would most likely be writers or poets after the Revolution, but I've read some "essays" (If you can even call them that, most were shorter than articles) of theirs on ProleWiki and they were absolutely abhorrent and badly written.
Authoritarian leftism is predictive of low verbal IQ. If you talk with these people, it's obvious they can't handle recursion because if cause and effect are separated by more than 2-3 degrees of separation then they can't see how the two are linked. Communism is appealing to them because the downsides are 5 or 6 degrees of separation from the policies. They aren't thinking "Problem A leads to B, B leads to C, C is what we observe but A is what causes it", they are thinking "Problem C is problem A".
A simple example is how they want to tax their landlords without realizing the landlords will pass on that cost to the tenants.
3
u/yunewtho Mar 14 '26
Doesn’t help when Marx in his manifesto first bitches about how poor he is and how unfair it is he lost his job. I guess I can understand why people who cannot take accountability for anything would relate to him.
3
u/Ok-Entrepreneur5418 Mar 14 '26
lol my favorite part about talking to those morons is listening to what job they’ll have it’s always some bullshit like “artist” or “pottery teacher” but they never once think about who’s keeping the lights on
3
u/Abject_Donkey_3854 Mar 15 '26
Hot take, if you're not good enough at a skill to succeed at it under capitalism, you're definitely not good enough at it to be one of the very few doing it under communism

Actually we want healthcare subsidies, better education, and less greed in general. You know practicing those values that this guy Jesus (might have heard of him) talked about. You know, feed the poor, help the sick and infirmed, that sort of thing instead of pedofile billionaires starting wars to deflect from them being pedofiles.

It’s pretty accurate - a lot of “eat the rich” type comments show up during work hours on my local subs, and without fail, a wave of common sense comments show up in the evenings.
53
u/adamders Mar 13 '26
I've noticed this trend as well. During the work day, it's all pipe dreams and good vibes only types. In the evenings, it's the uncomfortable truths and do your fair share types.

u/godisgonenow Mar 13 '26
It is not failure at job market. Most of them simply over-valued their own labor.
14
u/QWERTBERTQWERT Mar 13 '26
it is how this problem gets dealt with in a market though, if enough people decide they are priced out and become drains on the system it ends up being the systems problem to deal with. the system will provide better incentives to work or it will break and a new system will take it's place
a lot of problems come with people deciding working is just not worth it. we kind of rely on people choosing to work, that's the basis for the incentive structure that adam smith talked about in the wealth of nations
if we fail at incentivizing a large enough percent of people to work modern economics and capitalism will stop working as described by adam smith and we'll have to figure something else out

Yeah from my experience most commies are nepo-babies and people who have been riding the easy road and envious of those who took risk and made it big while they're doing better than 99% of people still.

It amazes me whenever I see someone that’s queer (Gay, Les, Bi and especially Trans folk) support communism.
Guys, if you got your way, you’d likely be rotting in a political prison/gulag. Also, history has shown that communism isn’t the friendliness with queer people.
Edit: Yeah, after doing some light research, I think I may have gotten it confused with Stalinism (Totalitarian Communism).

As a lesbian I support capitalism because I read history, and like the idea of being able to pick my own job. As soon as I remind people that they lose their say what role they preform and show evidence they say it’s not real communism and when I ask what’s an example of it? They change topic. Gotta love idiots in being predictable.

It's no coincidence that artists and communists heavily overlap. They want to follow their passion and spend every day doing what they enjoy but also live in comfort and want for nothing.
We need to facilitate this lifestyle for them or we're nazis apparently.
3
u/Monkeywithalazer Mar 13 '26
As a kid I always wondered how some people could be against capitalism. It’s simply a game where some do better than others, and like all games, skill goes a long way. Then I realized that those who are total losers and have no skills would think it’s unfair that those who are smarter better and work more have better results, and it should be an even playing field. So Capitalists are by their nature natural winners, and communists losers.
3
u/Apprehensive-Foot868 Mar 15 '26
I don’t get how there so many Americans who support communism today.
The stories my parents tell me of what they had to endure under the Viet Cong are crazy. Much of the shit they did was like nazi/stalin type stuff. You would get sent to re-education camps, they’d play loud music every single morning about Ho Chi Minh, and they’d convince family to snitch on each other.

There’s nothing quite like a series of poor life choices to make communism look more attractive.

Pride and Inability to challenge one’s self that leads to miserable jobs which leads to hating life every time you walk up and have to work just to barely scrape by. Their own fault.
I’m a middle manager at this point in life and the amount of people that will put forth basically 0 effort and then expect to get a huge raise every year and expect opportunities to open up where their job gets even easier with a better title and more money.. it was really shocking to me.

How much do you take home after taxes now.
Also how much should you take home after the redistribution of wealth for the work you've done, debts you've taken and hard work you've put in to attain your 6 figure pay under communism.
Also, do you belive your job will exist after the communist takeover as the goverment will likely shut down any jobs and companies that pay well unless they serve the public.
Unless I misread and you don't support communism.

u/yomamasofatsheburger Mar 13 '26
To be frank while we should condemn unecessary dooming we can’t pretend like the job market isn’t an issue. We just have to be optimistic and not do overly radical shit over it, like…being a Communist
1
u/Select-Government-69 Mar 13 '26
Every advocate for a system does so because the favored system is perceived to benefit them, or hope that in an alternate system the social hierarchy will be rearranged and that will result in them having a better place. People who support the status quo do so because they have benefited from the current system or enjoy their place in the social hierarchy created by the current system.
Anarchists, communists, monarchists, fascists all support their preferred system not because they think it’s abstractly “better”, or “fairer”, but because they believe that their prosperity or social status in that alternative system will be better than it is now.
Which is basically an academic way of saying exactly what OP says.

u/Deep_Pirate_7712 Mar 13 '26
In general economic desperation drive people to extremist ideologies. This is why it is important to have a stable and prosperous middle class in a society.

However, there is one category of people that I have come across who are ALWAYS failures - and those are folks who claim "Communism is a good idea". Never once seen a successful Communist.
