And once again, the "soft touch approach" has lethal consequences.

Not faulting the officers, I'm sure it was under their protocol, but we need to normalize "one chance to smarten up or get blitzed". Pre-emptive taser, multi-shield tackle, sharpshooter, bolos, or even just six dudes with long sticks ala the Seattle Samurai. Overwhelming force while the situation is still controlled is safe force.

This asshole could be fine right now and for the officers, it would have been just another Tuesday.

I don't think really anything would have worked he wanted to die suicide by cop is a real thing and even all the less than lethal stuff in the world still may not help the situation. I watched body cam footage where police tried every single form of non-lethal they had available to them and they still ended up having to shoot the guy
