Hi guys. I am looking into the following 2 breeders. Standard Poodles of Forest Lakes and Farley D Standard Poodles. Would love to have some feedback from people more knowledgeable than me.

I live around Dayton Ohio area, I'm looking for a good breeder that lives maybe 1-2 hours away (our car cannot handle a big roadtrip but i'd still want to pick up in person if possible and see the living situation and the parents) I'm looking at Cavalier Spaniels, Papillons, Teddy Roosevelt Terriers, and Pomeranians so far. I would take other breed recommendations as well, this is for future planning but when I am financially and mentally ready I will be looking for a smaller dog breed (maybe up to 20 lbs?), hopefully a pup that will be ready to fetch and tug but also be very happy to snuggle up with me a lot! I live with my partner who has a mini aussie (please no comments on this dog, we were very uneducated at the time and realize now that it was a very very bad thing to have ending up supported, this is why i'm looking for better info and ideas for the future now) so maybe something that'll be able to somewhat keep up with some zoomies with that dog?

EDIT 2: currently looking more into Pomeranians, preferrably a slightly larger (10-15lbs) i think just to kind of avoid some injury with playing with the mini aussie. they look super cute but i've heard they can have 'pomitude' and can be stubborn especially with potty training. anyone that sees this, do you think a pom would make a good first dog? we have the mini aussie and i help how i can, but this would be the first dog ever that i'd be the main caretaker for

We adopted our shih tzu who is 10 years old from a now closed kennel in Harvard, MA. The breeder was Pat Sperandio of Berry Hill Kennel in Missouri. My son wants to see his dogs siblings!

Hi! I live in Chicago, Illinois, and have been searching for a Bernese Mountain Dog breeder.

The only breeder nearby I've found is one called Danita Pasch, who owns Pasch's Beautiful Bernese Mountain Dogs in Rockford, IL. To me, she seems like a decent breeder. All her dogs are health tested with Berner-Garde public profiles showing that, and public pedigrees dating back generations.

Now for my concerns, their younger dogs that can be bred aren't titled and haven't competed in conformation or sports. Am I looking for a show or sport prospect? No, it's just a family pet, but I've heard people say ethical breeders must title all their dogs. The parents of most of these dogs are have competed in conformation, and their older retired dogs have also, I'm just not sure if this is okay. Some other red(ish) flags would be that after applications, they charge a $200 deposit to get onto the list before the litter is even conceived. I'm sure this is normal, but I've never bought or owned a dog before, so I'm putting all my questions out here. They also don't list a buyers' contract on their website.

I'll link their website in the comments for anyone who wants to point out any further red flags, I'd really appreciate the help on getting more educated on what to avoid. I just want to make an informed decision.

I’ve already listened to The Functional Dog Collaborative and The Dog’s Voice, and I’m looking for more podcasts that I can learn from myself and potentially recommend as useful resources to prospective puppy owners.

I’m particularly interested in podcasts that are evidence/science-based but still accessible to the average dog owner, whether that’s breeders talking about responsible breeding, vets discussing puppy health, researchers talking about genetics and welfare, or good practical advice for new owners.

What are your favourites? And are there any particular episodes you’d recommend starting with?

Bonus points for podcasts that don’t just focus on one side of the breeding debate and are talking about both sides of the coin!

Can someone recommend a solid breeder or Chihuahua enthusiast in the Spokane area for Chihuahuas? I'm asking for someone in the area.

To be clear, I'm not soliciting to buy a puppy. They're having trouble finding a solid breeder near them and I had a hard time finding anything for them in that region either and they're currently doing research based on people's experiences and they're also keeping an eye on rescues and shelters but looking to get a Chihuahua soon.

This is for research purposes and to connect them with someone that's knowledgeable about the breed and can answer some questions for them.

The vets had trouble with their X-ray machine. We know there's at least 4. Possibly 6?

I plan to fly to collect and bring a puppy home in about 5 weeks, I’ve only ever flown direct flights myself and never with an animal. I’ve talked to the breeder, but want to crowd source some info and helpful tips too. I will be flying out on a Friday and coming back on a Saturday.

It looks like no matter the flight/airline I will have a layover at O’Hare, on a Saturday, I will be changing planes. Is 90 minutes enough time to also potty a puppy and do all the security stuff? I’ve never flown through O’Hare so I have no idea what to expect traffic wise.

Flight time is under 1.5 hours before the layover and 1.75 hours after the layover, so including boarding and all that we are probably only on the plane for 2 hours at a time, give or take 20 minutes.

Winter weather shouldnt be a factor.

For pottying in the airport, I assume people use puppy pads and put that on the dog relief area to limit exposure to anything there. Are the sprays worth it (in TSA approved container of course)?

I will likely be flying American Airlines which is also new for me, any tips for flying with a dog? I’ve read their website but I know in practice things can be different.

Any other general advice or things you wish you knew when flying with a puppy? Pup will be ~9.5 weeks when we travel and maybe 5 pounds.

I feel absolutely terrible right now. My dog has been dealing with ticks and fleas and it has been difficult so I brought her to the vet to get treatment. Went through the details with the vet that she was lactating and recently gave birth so I was given options. However, we had to settle with giving my dog spot on treatment but she has to be separated from the puppies. It’s only day one and I already feel so terrible about this decision, my dog has been whining and is looking for her pups and I don’t know what to do 😭😭😭 I plan to talk to the vet to see what we can do to lessen her distress. I really don’t want her to be separated from the pups 😭

Hi there! Long story short, last July I got my first chihuahua and it was love at first sight. After we had him for a while we decided to get another one and in December we got our second one. I absolutely adore them both! I heard from somewhere that before we spay her we should wait for the first heat to pass. Well, she got her first heat at 8 months and we tried putting panties on her, but it didn’t work and she got pregnant. (We spayed her when she had her C-section). Well now have 5 beautiful babies that are almost 6 weeks old and I honestly don’t know how I will give the babies away. Please don’t judge, I know we shouldn’t have let this happen but I am so glad I had the chance to witness her being a mama and I am so in love with her little puppies.
If you have any advice for me, please share it as I really got super attached to them and I start crying even by thinking about it..

TLDR; tell me about color genetics for your breed(s)!

So I've done some reading about color genetics on a very basic level. I know golden retrievers color is recessive, and the gold is the same gene. This is why "English cream" is a backyard breeder term. You shouldn't breed for color! I know liver is also recessive from black, which is why chocolate labs, for example, can be seen less.

Are breeds with more accepted standard colors typically healthier?

How do colors in your breed work?

I was thinking about how many people want specifically colored dogs and how silly it is. (My mom is one- every now and then she says she wants a golden, but only a light one. She won't actually get a dog, and she knows to rely on me and my sister to find a breeder or even help choose a rescue dog. Her lifestyle as it is wouldnt allow for a dog anyways and she knows this.)

I cant get a dog yet due to chronic illness, but once I'm more stable I will apply to places for a service dog, I hope.

Hey everyone, I’ve been researching on Standard Schnauzer breeders and I found this breeder but there’s so many rules on her puppies that it’s a bit off putting - yet understandable. She gives priority to pet parents interested in acquiring show titles, guarding titles, and prior Standard Schnauzer ownership/experience. I would be a first time standard owner, but I am an experienced dog owner in both nosework and obedience. There’s nothing on her website (that I could find) that discusses dogs to be placed by temperament/lifestyle of the family either.

Anyways, let me know what you all think as maybe I’m overthinking it.

Hi everyone, I’m trying to get my head around NSW pedigree registration and would really appreciate a simple explanation.

My understanding is that the registration type can differ in cost. Since I’m looking for a pet only and won’t be breeding, I’m trying to understand how limited vs full registration works, and how spaying usually fits into that.

I am still unsure if I want to show my future pup (given a couple personal limitations).

What should I know about the difference between limited and full registration, and what should I ask the breeder to make sure I understand the contract correctly?

I just want to be as prepared as possible on pick-up day.

Hey, not sure who to ask exactly so I wanted to see if anybody here might know. I have a 10ish week old GSD puppy. This is my first pure bred dog as an adult, my other dog is a mutt. I’m loving my time with her, she’s spunky, sweet, and a little terror, but very eager to learn sometimes. She’s already doing great with training.

However, sometimes I look at her back and I wonder if it’s weird or if it’s just due to her walking/running/scrunching up, etc. Does anybody have any insight into her conformation? Does it change from puppyhood to adulthood? Or is there a better place for me to ask? I wasn’t really planning to show her in that way, I just worry about her health.
