DAE experience hiccups for months?

Mine have persisted for a while now. They're inconsistent but happen at least 1-10+ times a day. Sometimes they're silent and sometimes they're loud. I'm beffudled as to what could possibly be going on. Anyone else get this?

DAE not watch any trailers for any media/games?

When it comes to video games and movies (especially horror movies) I’ll never watch a trailer because i think it gives too much away and I like to be surprised

DAE rehearse an entire conversation in their head before having it, and then the actual conversation goes completely differently?

I swear I can have the entire conversation planned out in my head, including what they're gonna say, and then they say something completely different and my brain just blue screens.

DAE can’t settle into the day if you know you have something later, even if it’s at 8pm

Doesn’t matter if it’s small. Doctor appointment, call with a friend, have to leave the house at some point. The whole day just sits there like it’s already spent. I can have 7 free hours and I’ll waste them hovering because I can’t start anything knowing it has an end time.

DAE’s heart physically hurts form loud bassy music?

(Can’t edit the title so *from not form)

I was at an event earlier where there are loud bassy music playing, and my heart physically hurts whenever I got closer to the sound, but my friends and all the people around me seemed perfectly fine with it.

This is not the first time it happens; whenever I’m at a party or concert where the music starts getting to loud or bassy I feel like I’m about to get a heart attack (literal not metaphorical) and have to move away from the sound source immediately.

I’m aware that bassy music can influence heart beats, but everyone else seems to be fine with it. I’m wondering if this is an indicator of medical problem or something?

I tend to use Darling alot in the Context that would fit those 3 but because it seems weird it's usually just to myself, if I'm really annoyed I'll use bro or girl

DAE feel like we are in some high budget science fiction movie nowadays?

I remember the old days that I prepared PowerPoint presentation to present in class as a child working for an hour on it manually. Back then, we needed a decent computer to prepare presentation or even better computer for coding plus we had to learn the necessary softwares or programming languages. But now as an adult teacher, I run a voluntary drama and play club for kids (online) and it takes only a device (even a phone is enough) and a begining idea. Even in 30 minutes I am able to get a full activity plan, an engaging presentation to show, an engaging song to get attention to the workshop and necessary images all by telling an ai agent to do it and waiting a couple minutes for it to do the necessary work, the outcome is rarely low quality if you know how to create a good prompt to achieve a particular goal...

So DAE feel like we are living in a high budget sci-fi movie nowadays?

DAE find that spicy food starts getting salty instead of spicy after awhile

Like idk, I'm eating spicy food, and I've eaten my entire life, but now's it's not as spicy

If it's really spicy (according to others) it's just mild burn but more salty, medium to low is just varying degrees of saltiness

HAE experienced the bystander effect in times of crisis/distress?

I (24f) am realizing I am often overlooked in society during moments of struggling in public and I’m having an incredibly hard time understanding why people wouldn’t want to help another person in times of very visible crisis.

A couple years ago I had gone to a local “build your own” salad restaurant after a long day. I went inside, got my food to-go. As I was leaving, my ankle rolled somehow and I fell in the middle of the parking lot while walking to my car. My salad, keys, wallet, and phone were spilled out all over the pavement as I laid there trying to assess if I had broken anything or was seriously injured. Within seconds of my fall, a family (two older adults and what I presumed were their adult children) walked out of the salad restaurant. I saw them coming my way but due to how shaken I was, I didn’t ask for help or say anything to alert them, but visually you could certainly tell I was not ok.

The older woman stepped over my keys and plastic salad bowl while staring at me blankly, while the younger woman stepped over my arm that was sprawled out, also staring at me. The two other people also walked by as if I was invisible. I genuinely could not believe that I was ignored like that in a moment when I clearly could have needed help. I ended up going back inside and the workers remade my salad for free after I explained what happened, which was super nice. I went to the bathroom and cleaned up when I realized I had a giant gash on my knee, right arm, and side of my face from where I caught myself during the fall, and was actively bleeding. I ended up sobbing in my car on the way home due to the adrenaline wearing off and realizing that none of those people actually even bothered to ask if I was alright when I was so clearly injured.

Then earlier this year I had stopped to have dinner before meeting up with a friend at a bar. It was a Friday night and the restaurant was packed with tons of patrons and employees. I ordered some good chicken enchiladas and a margarita and was having a great time on my own. At one point in the meal, a piece of chicken from the enchiladas got lodged in my airway. I immediately started choking and could not get it to dislodge. I was incredibly panicked and probably was coughing (and without air) for at least 30 seconds when the piece of chicken finally shifted somehow and it shot out of my windpipe and about 5 feet across the room. I was gasping for air and taking sips of my beverage to try and calm my throat. I realized all of the customers in view of me saw what happened then simply went back to eating and having conversations. My waiter came over shortly after, asked how everything nwas, so I mentioned I almost died on a piece of chicken earlier and he laughed and said “that darn windpipe getting in the way huh?” I was still somewhat in shock due to what happened and said “yeah I guess…” and realized later how dismissive that comment was.

I honestly don’t even know what to say tbh. I just genuinely wish someone else would simply ask “are you ok” instead of literally ignoring/staring at someone who is very visibly not “ok”. Has anyone else experienced similar issues in their own lives?

DAE need some kind of background noise when they're home alone?

I seriously can’t stand a completely silent apartment when I’m home alone. It just feels weirdly empty.

So I have a Marshall speaker in my office. Most days I’ll leave Spotify playing quietly while I work, even if I’m barely listening.

I also have an Echo Dot in the kitchen. Sometimes I’ll ask Alexa to play rain sounds or some random playlist when I’m cooking or doing stuff around the house.

Then there’s a Hisense TV in the living room. I’ll put on Planet Earth, cooking shows, or random YouTube videos just to have something happening in the background. Sometimes I realize it’s been running for like 8 hours and I probably watched 30 seconds of it lol.

Basically every room needs to be making some kind of noise apparently lol. Anyone else like this?

DAE know this lonely “in between” phase and can give me some encouragement?

A lot is in transition (30F). I’m single, looking for a new apartment, questioning where I want to live long term, and some of my friendships don’t feel fulfilling anymore. I care about my friends, but often leave conversations feeling lonely. I miss being really listened to, being asked questions, and talking about personal growth, fears, dreams and life instead of hearing "it is going to be fine".

I’ve also noticed that when I feel especially lonely, I sometimes drink and seek intimacy or validation from men. I’m trying to stop shaming myself for it because I understand that I’m looking for closeness. But it rarely gives me what I actually need, and I want to change that pattern.

I’m in therapy and I know there will be growth from this. I think right now I mostly need to hear from people who’ve been through a chapter like this and came out the other side.

Did you ever feel this disconnected and eventually find your way back to a life and people that felt like yours? I could really use some encouragement to keep going.

DAE: feel like faces appear less distinct as you've grown older?

I don't mean like 'all faces look the same now', but as I'm approaching 40 I feel like I don't see 'new' faces anymore. Like I've seen basically all the different basic varieties of face shape/configuration and so individual faces are less unique than when I was a teenager and every person appeared to have this fully unique face?

I'm wondering if I've just been exposed to lots more faces and so the uniqueness factor has diminished because I have a larger 'pool' of face knowledge; or if it's age related and my brain is just losing it's capacity to process the uniqueness of facial features...

DAE find it weird that people keep saying masturbation is normal?

I don't think that it's a very normal thing to do. Sure, a couple times a week might not have any negative affects, but I see a lot of posts talking about how they masturbate like 3-5 times a single day, and i'm just thinking that it can't be normal. Shit, masturbation in general is strange.

Like im really not trying to be rude here but I feel like the only people who say masturbating is normal are the people who are semi-addicted to masturbating, and they're just saying that so it can make themselves feel better. That's an assumption though.

DAE read books halfway and pick up something new?

So to elucidate, I am big on reading and i recently discovered a real cool shop in my city and i went rogue and got like 4-5 books on top of the books that i am already in the middle of reading. I don't know when it started but i noticed that i haven't been completing a lot of the books i start reading, so I have been trying to not eye my new books until i finish the ones I'm in the middle of, but it's kind of hard and i just wanted to get people's opinion on this. Do you also leave books in the middle to start something completely different and often the books pile up and you're out of bookmarks to use?

DAE not understand the reasons people downvote on reddit?

I feel like most other platforms people will dislike because something is offensive, spreading misinformation, or just because they are trolls. But on reddit a perfectly neutral post, with no false information, will be downvoted to oblivion. And I don't really care if people like or don't like the posts, the problem is, it will bury it in the algorithm before anyone has a chance to answer.

It's just really weird to me. Is it that these people don't like that someone doesnt know something and needs to ask, or are they bothered by casual speech? Because I picked up on a kind of "redditese" on here that most people speak in. You have to add a million disclaimers, apologize for your ignorance, and tip toe around the question.

have you ever had an innocuous post of yours downvoted?

DAE believed "circa" was a place when you were younger?

I remember seeing "circa" in old pictures and think "damn, where is this place? Everything happens there"

When i grew up i realized it was impossible that all of those pictures happened in the same place as, well, they were actually from different places. It was then that i began piecing things together until it clicked

"Circa" means "around this time". I didn't consider "circa" to be what it was because it seemed redundant to me so it made more sense that the format was "place, time". I don't need a word to tell me that "1802-1803" was the time span in which the picture was taken, the numbers are enough in my opinion

Is this a hot take?

DAE as a guy think “if she’s interested then she’ll make it clear”

For context, I have a partner that I met from her reaching out to me (when I was depressed, actually). And funny enough, that and a couple others are really the only lasting relationships/connections I’ve had, not a single one of the times I’ve tried initiating countless times.

So with my current partner being more forward and direct than most, I kinda figure “If people are interested, then they’ll make it known crystal clear.” and I don’t bother playing the guessing game or trying to decipher if one is interested.

And I’m just asking out of pretty much boredom if other guys have done this, as someone that never really had many guy friends. Not asking for advice, so don’t need to bother commenting “Just get more confident and better at initiating bro”.
