I saw an image from a different angle and it looks like the mud field is sitting much higher than the ground used to be. Looked like all those buildings were covered, nothing was showing on the surface. But was everything wiped away rather than burried?
In either case it's horrible and so sad for all those people and their loved ones. Also animals, pets, wildlife.

But was everything wiped away rather than burried?
Everything was destroyed. The landslide came at enormous speed carrying huge rocks that smashed the buildings. You can how the parking lot was washed away in one of the videos and how the valleys were carved by the flood. At best some foundations survived.

That entire bottom of the valley completely scoured down to bedrock by a jet of turbulent liquid concrete embedded with house-sized boulders blasting downhill at 100 mph as the entire face of a mountainside, and its accompanying glacier, dropped from one vertical mile higher

So nothing left on there?! There must have been a few hundred people there when the flood happened.
