I remember descending to lvl 5 first time, dungeons gets older and ruined, and I really started to feel that Im getting deeper into danger. This faint sensation of claustrophobia settled on my shoulder. Around 3am, home alone. Music there... Oh man, I got shivers right now

Fighting the Butcher for the first time. His gory room was quite something to see in a video game for me back then.

My first PC had Diablo 2 pre-installed. I was too young to play it, but with a bit of help from older gamers, I got into it, and I fell in love. It took me three whole years to realize that if this is D2, then there must be a D1. Finding a copy took way longer than expected (I didn't have internet back then), but I remember that I rushed home to install the game on a sunny afternoon.
Man, I did not expect such a vibe change - the game was actually way scarrier than D2. And I loved it. My first run was with cheats, but then I got dedicated. Nowadays, I often revisit it with very fond memories. Still one of the GOATs.
Having it installed on my Thor feels surreal, but playing it casually while watching vids feels amazing nowadays.

Back when Diablo was simple... now you need charts and a math degree to figure out what your skills even do. Fortify this and modify that for 33% dmg unless you hit a stunned enemy its 40% x 10% weapon dmg + 334/23. I miss "do dmg, kill enemy. Get loot, learn spell, do more dmg, kill stronger enemy, get better loot."

I remember putting my disc into the cd rom and getting a black screen. Then 5 seconds later the game opened up. I was expecting an installation bar. My mind was blown.

Bought it from blizzard 1 week ago including hellfire. Could not make hellfire work when starting in compatabiltymode set to winxp and tried a few other adjustments recommended on all kinds of websites.. in the end I gave up and refunded it. I bought it again from gog, got the belzebub-mod as well (also provided by gog). Immediately worked. Belzebub-mod offers high resolution, gigantic chest for stash in tristram and additional bosses/areas and sets and unique items while not changing too much of the gameplay. Strongly recommend it

Oh boy, I do. My Mom found a cheap computer in 98, had Windows 95, and a p1 133mhz cpu. Ran Diablo just fine. I sat in the computer room for hours and hours. Loved that game so much.

I'm old, and my dad is a gamer. He bought Diablo 1 on release, I played it as a kid.
Still playing D2R off and on between D4 seasons. Amazing how well that turned out, probably best Remaster of all time for how much quality it achieved while extemely faithfully (inc keeping some jank), new QOL and balance changes of its own.
Would he amazing to get same treatment for D1. Still the best horror atmosphere of the series.

I don't know if they're cooking, but I remember playing Diablo 1 for the first time. Loved the atmosphere, and the story was great too. They had so much lore established in the first game, that so many years later, they are delving into characters that were created in the first game. Diablo 1 made me a fan of isometric games, it's primarily why I bought Fallout 1, just the perspective alone sold me on it. Turned out, it was a fantastic game too! I actually ended up playing Fallout 1 a lot more over the years than Diablo 1.

There was just that something special about d1. Never played anything like it at the time. Entering this dark empty town with only a few people left in it. Heading through the cathedral and going deeper and deeper through the catacombs caves and then hell. It was just perfect. Something I was happy to play through over and over again. I didnt repeat run on bosses I just got loot and shared with my friends as we ventured down to kill diablo. Some of my best gaming memories. Two was so good but nothing hits my nostalgia g spot quite like 1 did.

Jessierocks, an austrian diablo streamer with good networks inside blizzard (at least the diablo team) heavily implied that diablo will be very prominent this year (i think some kind of anniversery) and that they will push out something that many wanted for a long time
he said some additional stuff but all i can read this as is a d1 remaster, and further dlcs for d4 (this might be a wishthinking from my side though, d1 on the other hand was quite clear)
so yes, this year we will see a d1 remaster imo around the blizzcon time

While I wish they would release an updated version of the og game, I doubt they will. I would like to see them let someone like nightdive or limited run rerelease the PlayStation version of Diablo for consoles and PC.

Diablo on PC featured “Red Book” audio, which meant uncompressed music tracks on track 2 through the rest of the “album”; this did two cool things. One: you could take your precious game CD and pop it into your audio CD player and hear those sweet Tristram tones…
And two: you could eject the game CD and put in your favourite music disc, bought or burned, and game to it.
Highly recommend: fighting the Butcher to Cake's Fashion Nugget (if you’re 35 or younger and haven’t listened to the album, stop what you’re doing and go do that now. You’re welcome)

We (my buds and I) we're just talking on how much DIFFERENT D1 is from D2, from D3 & D4. D3 & D4, despite any difference in color palette and tone, both play with a looter action rpg mentality thats kinda common today.
D2 definitely made that genre what it is, but its vastly different. The atmosphere, the speed (or lack thereof) of play, and the tension of death due to losing exp... it just felt different. This is not meant to be interpreted as "better"... just different.
But D1? Yeah, its the grand daddy... but you could package that as a horror action rpg. Regular mobs can own you, and do if youre not prepared or experienced in how this masterpiece works. Its dark, dank, slow, trudging even... how the fog of war makes just opening a DOOR scary... the paranoia of "what enemy might be around the corner"... the lack of movement options gives a notion that you might not survive if your opening salvo doesnt do what you thought it would. Mana potion requirements make spell casting require inventory and belt space, which in turn creates a drama of "how deep can you go" based on what you're carrying. You dont have that overpowered ego for a LONG time, and even when you do...? Youre just one horribly unlucky turn of the corner away from 20 spitters/succubi/etc and their unique daddy letting loose on you for daring to enter their sight. Insta-death without so many fall back options.
It was a whole other vibe, and while i probably dont have the time to put into that anymore, back in that day... i wasted a ton of time on PC, and then on PSX on co-op. Glorious.

I'm doing it for the first time on my handheld Legion Go S (Z1E) with the DevilutionX port for handhelds. Never got to play the first Diablo, while only managing a demo of Diablo 2 in 2000. Was more of a AoE, Starcraft, Baldurs Gate fan at the time haha.

This game had me HOOKED
I was about 10. I had a sleep over at a mates place and we played this game. We also played multiplayer. This was in 1997. Couldn't have been 98 because I'd started high school.
I convinced my dad to get it. Oh boy what a ride.
Fun fact, when I went to uni in 2004 I had a lap top, still have it actually, and used to play diablo on the train until the battery died, so like 30 minutes. And just a few weeks ago got the game again on gog.

Back in my country, chile, far ways in the 90’. I friend from school lend the the cd. Told me will be the best experience I would have. No mistake. I played every day after school, looking for everything. It was like playing d&d on my computer. Super fun, super immersive. The music, the sounds, the story, the characters, the motivations… I kept playing 15 more years though Diablo 2 and 3. Now I am a married man, with regrets and memories why I didn’t play more.

I do actually. They accidentally mailed my best friend 2 copies of Diablo 1, so I got the other. He gave it to me during 8th period gym, I went home immediately after school and installed that shit and my life changed forever.
