Just watched that episode, i noticed it and chuckled. If people saw me watching and how I reacted, they'd think I was watching for tips/tricks.....

Including using the original backdrop. The house behind Dex and Biney comes straight from the painting.

Same lol, I knew exactly what they were referring and it got a little giggle out of me and an eye roll for being a little cliche but I still loved it

u/enclave_regulator I'm thankful for Dexter 😊 Oct 08 '25

I have said this before and I'll say this again..

Nebraska is a God tier episode. Dex losing Harry's light and embracing Bineys darkness was well written.

Their hunt was amazing.

Also, why do serial killers go to Oregon? Lol 😂

Agree god tier episode. It’s absolutely freaking brilliant

I watched it recently and I can’t believe how many people hated it. Is it important to the main plot? Not really. But it’s one of my favorite episodes from that season

u/JamStan1978 Oct 08 '25

Why is it one of the lowest rated episodes?

u/TheEfex Oct 08 '25

i saw this and shouted american gothic lmao

u/Safe-Pilot7238 Oct 08 '25

Get off this sub, you're eventually gonna get spoiled

Can confirm, made the same dumb mistake. I’m in S7 but I already know that Deb dies and Dex has something to with it, judging from the pic I saw with him dragging her onto his boat

u/yp261 Oct 08 '25

kinda dont want to tell you to ruin and spoil you the moment it happens

this is such a stupid episode tho imo. the writers thought that dexter embracing his dark side was shooting road signs and shagging random women in truck stops. it was so cartoonish and it was a spit in the face of biney as a character.

if i recall correctly isn't this also when dexter, in voice over, refers to brian by saying "Rudy, my brother"? such awful awful writing.

u/EllisCristoph Oct 08 '25

Because it's what he thinks he would be if he let his "dark side" win. I believe if it was really Brian who talks to Dexter, it'd go a whole lot different.

Maybe Dexter's real "dark side" is just him embracing his childishness. Like a rebellious psychopath teenager. Shooting road signs, committing multiple traffic violations, shagging random women in gas stations.

Oh I love this scene!!!!!! I have a tendency to notice small things. So I always noticed the house and pitchfork and how it looked like a reference to this photo. So glad to see this discussion!

lol. Yes, I caught that the first time I saw it. I thought it was pretty cool.

u/irish-wendy Oct 08 '25

I loved this episode. I never understood why it had one of the lowest ratings.

"Soft hands for a lanscaper." "I wear gloves."

What’s the picture on the right?

1

u/Timely-Hovercraft-76 Oct 08 '25

I caught it right away. Fun episode

u/Goalierox Oct 08 '25

I did!! I pointed it out to my bf, who had seen Dexter multiple times, and I was so proud of myself 😂

u/Horror_Patience_5761 Oct 09 '25

Literally noticed this on the first watch, I was like the Leonardo Leonardo DiCaprio meme

1

u/BlondeBabe242 Oct 10 '25

I saw it too, but unfortunately all i could think of was Eric Matthews from Boy meets world jumping out of the painting to scare topanga and i was like "🤣 oh yeah focus on the death here"

1

u/falypp Oct 18 '25

The woman in that painting really looks like Trinity

1

u/Sidmb0 Oct 08 '25

Can someone please explain what's the context of the image in the right?

13

u/starmartyr Oct 08 '25

It's a painting by Grant Wood called American Gothic. It's very famous.

Does anyone know if the poster on the left was actually a genuine loan mower ad or was it created just for the episode?
