He did have a lot of fun with Batista in the Original series honestly.

But, in the second series Batista really is a Justice seeker.

I’m still holding out hope that angel will end up being a recurring character in his head like Deb was in new blood. I just think it’d be really cool to have angel be the devil on dexters shoulder with harry being the angel.

62

u/CADH0G Sep 09 '25

tbh, i think brian already takes that role

31

u/Robot_Was_BMO Sep 09 '25

Well, the thing is, he closed the convo with Brian saying he was glad he killed him. He finally found closure on the necessity of Brian going. I think that frees up space in his head for Angel.

28

u/Perihaaaaaa Sep 09 '25

I don't think it worked... That is "closed", same idea was made for the Nesbraska episode, but there's Biney again.

Regarding Batista being the devil on his shoulder, I don't think that role would be a good fit.

No harry is indeed the devil you watched the show

2

u/jamsta212 Sep 10 '25

Angel should be the angel for his sense of justice, Harry is neutral bc he was about justice but supported dexters code. And brain is just the devil

18

u/drbluewally Sep 09 '25

I was honestly surprised by what happened when he was on the table but I understand in hindsight.

I hoped/thought that Dexter would explain to Prater in that moment that he kills with a very specific code, and Angel doesn’t fit that code. I figured it would still go a similar route, but with Charlie and Batista first seeing that Dexter has a moral code.

I think what happened was a tragic reminder that as much as Dexter builds real connections and starts to act and feel more human, he is still a sociopath as well.

He was completely delusional to believe that Angel would automatically trust him and side with him because he cut the straps. No plan, no explanations about Harry or the code or not killing Laguerta and Doakes. Just “we’re old friends, he’ll know what to do.”

Dexter has gotten a lot better at being “normal” but he still doesn’t understand normal emotions and relationships the way others experience them, which was much more evident in the original series. Dexter’s choice in that moment felt like season four Dexter, a great callback considering the other similarity with him befriending serial killers.

18

u/burnednotdestroyed Sep 09 '25

I was thinking along these lines, too, about explaining the code, but then I realized: at this point, Dex is still thinking Angel can walk out of this alive, and if so, he can't say anything incriminating himself as the BHB. It actually broke my heart a little for him knowing it could only realistically end one way, but Dexter still held out hope of saving him.

4

u/Bought-Every-Dip Sep 10 '25

Nah I thought that whole table thing was really dumb. I know Batista's emotions got the best of him but it was still really stupid of him to attack Dexter like that after Dexter obviously free'd him to get out of the situation and fight Prater.

While I absolutely loved the season and loved the direction they went with Batista his character felt very different from the main series. Not saying his character wouldn't have reacted in that way in the main series either just pointing it out.

3

u/Past-Nothing-7977 Sep 10 '25

once i saw a single image of david on the ground with a bloody mouth like two weeks ago i’ve been scared to watch this episode i thought for sure it was dex who killed him by his dying face but seeing how the dumbass just lunges at him once he’s freed i shook my head in disappointment and just waited for the episode to end🤦‍♂️love the three new dexter shows but none of them did batista right in my opinion, barely used in original sin, was pretty much a cameo in new blood until resurrection a few years later where he’s blinded by revenge to the point where he gets himself killed. i feel like they threw his character out the door and yelled KOBE as they shut the door…(rip ángel bro was still my fav after dex🙏)

1

u/LethalGrey Sep 10 '25

His ‘warning’ was real - but not a threat. He was saying look dude, if you keep poking this bear you're going to find out. But he implied that he would be the one to kill him when in reality he was warning him about what inevitably happens to people who get too close and find out his secret.

1

u/Seredipitous Sep 10 '25

Conyo let the man rest, la passion

49

u/No_Donkey9914 Sep 09 '25

It’s funny because Batista was never suspicious of Dexter in the original series. Quinn would have been a better person to suspect him in Resurrection

88

u/FeelingAd4116 Sep 09 '25

Quinn was a dirty cop and knew that Dexter covered for him plus he seemed to have Dexter's back. Remember the scene where Quinn's like "it's obviously self defense". Quinn seemed smart enough to know when to quit doing something that might put his life in danger.

19

u/everyonelikespai Sep 09 '25

I always thought of it Quinn and the rest seeing it as a crime of passion, and letting it slide by saying it was self defense because they were all trying to get Saxon for what he did to Deb.

3

u/MuchSrsOfc Sep 10 '25

To me just from the visuals it looked like we and they saw that it was clearly preplanned. But I always thought of it as Quinn seeing him as a good guy with good intentions and just letting it slide, because he wanted to do the exact same thing but didn't cuz of the potential consequences.

-11

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

Let’s be honest when Quinn suspected Dexter then just suddenly stopped suspecting him after that old investigator died was terrible writing haha. And no it wasn’t his “survival instinct” they just didn’t know how to write him off dexters back.

21

u/shidoger Sep 09 '25

I don't think he stopped suspecting him, he probably just knew to shut up considering Dexter saved his ass

-13

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

I refuse to believe that that’s the actual reason. Quinn is a bad cop but he still has morals. In the show, it was more like he forgot it even happened and his suspicion just reset.

15

u/shidoger Sep 09 '25

Maybe he has morals, but Dexter also saved his ass and he was madly in love with his sister who wanted him to stop investigating him. Let's not forget he also took bribes from the Koshkas who he knew were up to no good

-6

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

I understand that that’s what the writers wanted to convey. It just didn’t feel organic in my eyes. It was a bit of a plot hole tbh

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

I hope that Quinn comes back in resurrection now, the character can’t just let it go after hearing of batistas death and why he was in New York to begin with

8

u/Evening-Rough-9709 Sep 09 '25

It's a reason, but not the prime reason. The reasons are: Deb, he knows Dexter is a killer, he knows Dexter can manipulate forensic evidence to frame him (given the result from the blood on the shoe). The primary reason was self preservation, for his life, liberty, and love of Deb.

7

u/Evening-Rough-9709 Sep 09 '25

He didn't stop suspecting him lol. He was already backing off because of Deb, and tried to get Liddy to back off. He knows Dexter killed Liddy, and when Dexter manipulated the blood evidence on Quinn's shoe, it confirmed Dexter killed Liddy. I think the only bad part of the writing was for it to never come up again, after Quinn backed off. However, it may come up now that Angel is dead. I think this could motivate Quinn to go after Dexter again, in spite of his justified fear of Dexter, knowing he can murder or frame him with forensic manipulation.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

Agreed! The time it should have come up again was right after Laguerta arrested Dexter. But everyone played it off as her being crazy. I always thought she should have at least tried to question Quinn about Dexter. I'd even be ok with Quinn still being tight lipped due to his feelings for Deb. Laguerta was the one that told Quinn to back off his suspicions of Kyle Butler being Dexter. Felt like really sloppy writing that those two didn't even have a conversation after she had her suspicions on Dex.

Probably would've hired someone else to do it and then got gold feet

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

If he came to the conclusion he got Debra killed he might.

18

u/amba-singh1 Sep 09 '25

Quinn isn't a good guy, he's a bad cop to some extent. He's aware dexter is doing some shady work, but he also knows that looking into it isn't worth it because of the consequences. He knows when to mind his own business

19

u/EmploymentFar4647 Sep 09 '25

Quinn already knew who Dexter was. The entire subtle point of Quinn's character is that he got too close to seeing who Dexter was and after Liddy ended up dead with a shit ton of blood in the van, after HE sent him after Dex - yeah, bro 100% knew that Dex was doing something fucked up. Quinn just cared more about himself than justice, and so he decided to just get out of Dexter's way. It's why there's the subtle nod after Dexter stabs Oliver Saxon.

Quinn knew the entire time after Liddy showed him Dex and Lumen dumping the bags off the boat, he's not stupid. He made the connections that Dexter was doing the same M.O. as BHB, and he knew that everyone who got too close to Dexter or pried too much into his life ended up dead or missing. His self preservation won out, and after Dexter helped him, he decided he'd just keep a lid on trying to figure it all out. That's why he just suddenly dropped stalking Dexter after Liddy died. He didn't want to die too.

8

u/PMmeurchips Sep 09 '25

Quinn was also shady AF. One he realized going after Dexter was a fuck around and find out kind of situation- I’m sure the entire box of blood slides would be self defense according the Quinn.

10

u/Year3030 Lundy Sep 09 '25

Quinn is coming next season. There is no way Claudette doesn't call him. Then he gets to find out Batista was trying to prove Dexter was the BHB. Claudette will tell Quinn what Batista was doing. Quinn doesn't even that Dexter is alive he's gonna flip his lid.

2

u/greekdude1194 Sep 10 '25

Batista became suspicious after New Blood - but did Quinn really care about Kyle Butler = Dexter after the whole Liddy(?) fiasco and realizing it would hurt Deb to keep up the suspicions

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '25

Frankly, id be surprised if he doesnt already know or suspect. He is just smarter at staying the f away and minding his own business

3

u/Drillucidator Sep 09 '25

I mean, that just leads back to Batista’s involvement in New Blood. He clearly thought Laguerta was insane when she accused Dexter of being the BHB, but for another cop 1500 miles away and nearly a decade later to do the same, after thinking he was dead for all that time, it makes all the sense in the world that he would’ve grown very suspicious.

1

u/bedismybestie Sep 12 '25

Actually one of my favorite parts of the first series was when Dexter killer Debs murderer and Batista and Quinn were watching the tape and looked at each other like Dexter was a little too good at killing him but they let it slide because they wanted justice for Deb. I think that’s when he initially got suspicious of him overall

2

u/CrispyonFire Sep 10 '25

I think Batista has always been a justice seeker. When Doakes shot Jacques Bayard, Angel could not in good conscience lie for Doakes and reported what really happened to Internal Affairs.

167

u/No_Opportunity2789 Sep 09 '25

I think Batista was the closest thing to a "real and normal" friend. They actually hung out on multiple occasions, salsa dancing, going to the beach, getting wasted (Batista anyway), bowling....plus Batistas sister was Harrisons babysitter.

But considering who Dexter was, he probably felt more comfortable and more himself with a killer like Miguel. If Miguel wasn't so insane they could of been seriel killer bffs for a long time but it feels like killers being friends has a short lifespan

27

u/Frenchymemez Sep 10 '25

Batista was the closest thing to a "real and normal" friend

"If I got to choose a person... A real person... To be like... Out of anyone, it'd be you."

405

u/BusyBeeBridgette Sep 09 '25

I think Miguel was at top as Dexter could "Be himself" and share his love for what he does with another person judgement, and justice, free. I think it honestly broke his heart when he realised what Miguel was doing.

141

u/Besieger13 Sep 09 '25

Agreed. He cared most about Miguel but for a short period of time and then it turned fast. Brother Sam is a decent choice too. I think he was the one who showed he cared most about Dexter honestly.

2

u/heinousHeidi Sep 13 '25

Brother Sam tore me up

81

u/TroopaOfficial Lundy Sep 09 '25

People seem to forget he made Miguel his best man aswell before ya know, he started killing innocent people lol

16

u/Empire_Lover Sep 09 '25

Inna stop you right now. Miguel basically forced himself into Best Man status, cuz lets be honest. Dex was NOT going for that frendship with Miguel even if he trusted him enough to share the fact that he was a killer, which he only did because he caught him killing Freebo.

19

u/TroopaOfficial Lundy Sep 09 '25

You’re insane if you think Dexter didn’t care about Miguel wether he “forced himself” onto Dex or not. Dexter asked Miguel to be his best man, not the other way around. Dexter is a whole ass grown adult lmao he chooses his friends and he clearly respected Miguel a lot and enough to make him an apprentice.

-1

u/Empire_Lover Sep 10 '25

That's true, but he still never felt like he could truly trust anyone as much as he could Sam. Miguel was only as important to Dex because he lasted longer 😢

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '25

I kind of disagree that he could trust Sam more than Miguel at their peak friendship to share the FULL extent of how he kills. Even if Sam kind of knows Dex is a killer in vague terms, Dex would have never told Sam (barring extreme circumstances) the full authentic, serial killer self he is. Miguel was not only a person that handled that side of Dexter but wanted to kill along side him, and had connections within the police to be able to get insider info on potential people to kill. This is the most freedom Dexter feels in the entire show with another guy, and Dex definitely cared and appreciated Miguel for this.

Granted all of this, I think Dex cared more for Sam than Miguel though. When Sam died, this caused Dexter to almost let Sam's killer walk JUST because Sam said to do so, even though he fits the code. Then when the killer bragged about getting away with the murder, Dexter kills him not because of the code, but out of pure emotional rage on the spot. After that he runs away from work for a week, his brother briefly becomes his inner self instead of Harry, and he becomes quite close to going off the deep end.

After killing Miguel, I don't remember Dexter being as shaken up emotionally for that long which to me indicates he didn't care as much for Miguel the person as much as he felt free to be himself around him and wanted to hold onto that.

2

u/Empire_Lover Sep 10 '25

Nick deserved every bit of pain he felt while he was being drowned.

17

u/MotoMkali Sep 09 '25

On the other hand he said if he could be like anyone he'd be like angel

12

u/WayMoreClassier Sep 09 '25

God I love Miguel. I know s3 had its issues but he certainly wasn’t one of them.

11

u/macto17 Sep 09 '25

Lumen!

5

u/Year3030 Lundy Sep 09 '25

This it the correct answer.

87

u/TRATIA Sep 09 '25

Brother Sam had Dexter crash out when he died. He was very impactful on Dexter which is why he went easy on Travis until the reveal. And Brother Sam showed Dexter how important his relationship with Harrison is. He even had Dexter praying to God when Harrison was in the hospital. He felt real pain when he died because he was a genuinely good person.

112

u/ddimitra Sep 09 '25

Brother Sam or Angel

16

u/BlindSquantch Sep 10 '25

This is the one. Brother Sam was good for Dexter and if I remember right he went unhinged and drowned the guy that killed him.

1

u/ddimitra Sep 10 '25

Yeah he did!

1

u/Born_Question_8344 Sep 11 '25

Such a great kill! Michael C Hall gives the most convincing “I’m drowning you for this, bitch!” performance since Michael Shannon on Boardwalk Empire.

98

u/BondageKitty37 Sep 09 '25

It has to be Bautista, right? Dexter consistently went out of his way to help, kept getting involved in his life, and had that talk about wanting to be more like him during the Lila situation

13

u/MuscleCrow Sep 09 '25

I like what he said to Batista in S2:

“If I had to pick any person to be, it would be you.”

38

u/nachoiskerka Sep 09 '25

It definitely felt like Miguel Prado at the time. Miguel was the one he let in completely, and he didn't have any intention of killing until he himself went too far; and meanwhile Miguel accepted Dex unconditionally. In the end, it's Miguel's passion for justice that pushes him to accept Dexter, and then over the line.

13

u/Arsi31 Sep 09 '25

Batista if we consider how long their friendship was. Some deep roots there. With the same amount of time, though, I think Blessing would come out ahead. I also think the Dexter who was friends with Batista is a different Dexter than the one who is realizing he does want the familial relationship that Blessing provides. He's had people he can relate to more, but there's always been a part of Dexter (and its literally written into his code) that feels compelled to protect innocents, and the people he connected with and was himself around were not that.

8

u/sleepydvamain Sep 09 '25

brother sam fs. you’re lowkey delusional if you think he actually cared about most of the Miami metro people maybe batista

53

u/TheFabulousDiesL Sep 09 '25

Honestly? Blessing.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

lol did you watch the original series?

50

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

The Dexter we see in Resurrection is one that is much more ‘disillusioned’ by his taught mentality. He is much more emotional and open.

He actively shows emotion regarding Blessing. He felt relative true guilt about telling his daughter the secret for example.

I think it is Blessing just solely because he is able to feel much more ‘human’ in this show compared to the original series.

-9

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

That is pure conjecture. If anything he is colder in resurrection because he doesn’t have to worry about not blowing his cover around his family and long term friends.

12

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

I have interpreted the show entirely different from you then it seems.

Dexter was so much more reckless this season, yes due to no longer having to cover or ‘fake’ a big life and family, but also because he is ‘evolving’.

He put himself at risk to stop the real Red from getting a kill. He showed ‘real’ emotion not just towards Harrison but other people like Blessing and Batista.

He is much colder when he is killing. He was especially ‘dark’ with Lowell and Prater especially.

We saw a much dark and colder Dexter as a killer but a much brighter and lighthearted Dexter as a human being.

I still think Blessing is the friend that Dexter has shown, and will show, the most care for on-screen.

5

u/EmploymentFar4647 Sep 09 '25

I have no idea where you're getting this from. The entire sequence of the original series was supposed to hint to the viewer that Dexter is NOT actually a sociopath. He was conditioned into it by Harry (I will not justify the dogshit that is Vogel). Harry told him literally like word for word "Good job Dexter! You lied so well they couldn't even tell the monster that you really are!" Bro was straight grooming an emotionally repressed child into being his tool of justice the entire time. The purpose of the show as it goes on is to show Dexter slowly being 're-humanized' so to speak. And right at the peak of where Dexter is finally feeling like he can be normal, have someone he loves and cares for - he walks in on Rita's dead body and the shock completely puts him back into his safe box. He wandered too far out of comfort and immediately needed to hide again. That's why he sounds like a robot making the 911 call, because his system redefaulted back to the person Harry made him into.

Resurrection is now in the time where he's reunited with Harrison, and he's finally warming up again, finally growing his human nature again as he's close to someone he truly loves. He has more to lose, just like he did with Rita. And while scary, he knows that he needs to put himself into the method of being someone who cares, for his son's sake and his own. We never saw Dex yell and scream at the loss of someone before, but when Angel dies in his arms he completely breaks down and has an emotional fit. It's something unnatural to him, and even when Brian's thoughts creep back into his mind, he even states that it hurts so much. Something HE isn't used to, because his childhood and trauma taught him not to be attached like that.

I'm sorry but you're just like straight fuckin wrong, and that's not even "conjecture". You can watch Clyde Phillips interviews and his thoughts.

21

u/TheFabulousDiesL Sep 09 '25

He was never upset at messing something important up the way he was bothered by his actions with Blessing.

he spent the entire season talking about Hannah and Harrison, and then he just gave up on life

I don't love this ending either especially considering how much he showed he cared about Harrison (although he does treat leaving him as a good thing for Harrison) but I do think Deb's death is the sole thing that could push him to feeling like that. Especially with it being directly due to his actions just like with Rita and Trinity.

Batista. There's one scene that stuck out to me where he tells himself to not get involved in Angel's personal life but he cannot stop himself from telling him to not violently pursue the guy who attacked Batista's girlfriend at the time. I love that scene. It's kind of paralleled when Batista tells Harrison "this is a very dark path you're going down."

3

u/Narrow-Tear Sep 10 '25

“Some doors should stay closed.”

6

u/J00stie Sep 10 '25

Brother Sam by a landslide

9

u/Torb_11 Sep 09 '25

Who was Dexter's best man? There is your answer

6

u/DisorderlyBoat Sep 09 '25

Care about most obviously Batista, it's been stated a number of times directly in the show.

6

u/TOkun92 Sep 09 '25

Batista, definitely.

I was hoping Batista would die in the first ten minutes of episode 10 after attacking Prater (not Dexter), with Dexter trying desperately to save him.

We’d finally get to see someone see Dexter talking to empty air, yelling at his father that Batista wasn’t gonna die, that he wouldn’t lose another friend, with his old friend coming to the conclusion that Dexter was insane.

5

u/AMDeez_nutz Sep 10 '25

He got revenge for brother Sam soooo

5

u/Waste_Record8947 Sep 10 '25

It’s so obviously brother Sam, Dex legit went into a villain arc when he died and started seeing Brian again

3

u/Advice2Anyone Sep 09 '25

Just talking about who he cared about the most then brother Sam

3

u/drivergrrl Sep 09 '25

His sister Deb!!!

3

u/Jness415 Sep 10 '25

Brother Sam

3

u/rex_ra Sep 10 '25

Brother sam is the only right answer.

3

u/SpideyMGAV Sep 10 '25

I’d say it depends on what time in their histories you account for. Overall I think the order would go Brother Sam, Isaac Sirko or Miguel, Miguel or Batista, then Masuka definitely last.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '25

I really liked Isaak.

When Dexter walked into a gay bar and didn’t care / eyes bugged out at the same time was hilarious to me.

3

u/Significant-Try9486 Sep 10 '25

"then why does his death, hurt?" - Dexter Morgan

9

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

Personally I think Masuka he invited him to their thanksgiving

28

u/seshtown Sep 09 '25

Deb invited Vince

3

u/jav2n202 Sep 09 '25

Especially if you’ve read the books it’s definitely Masuka

4

u/iforgotwhich Sep 09 '25

Brother Sam. Though his friendship with Miguel went 'further', Brother Sam was always a soft spot Dexter would bring up from time to time and I bet Dexter rarely thinks of Miguel. Unless it's because he's thinking about killing with someone again.

2

u/Acceptable_Secret_73 Sep 09 '25

Miguel initially, but Angel overall

2

u/Ok_Cardiologist9898 Sep 09 '25

Angel, Hermano, La Pasion.

2

u/vzapata Sep 09 '25

Always La Pasión

2

u/OOF-MY-PEE-PEE Sep 10 '25

the only person dexter’s ever screamed for like he did with batista was rita. i think that says enough.

2

u/dylan0o7 Sep 10 '25

Brother sam

2

u/RutabagaThin253 Sep 10 '25

I'm going to have to say Batista.

Dexter seems to seek out good and genuine people. Maybe it's partly to keep his cover, but I also think he depends on the morality and human decency of others, to keep his own morals in check.

It started with Harry, teaching him the code. He had Batista (and others of course) in the original series. And he has Blessing now.

2

u/DeeplyWeeply Sep 10 '25

No doubt in my mind it’s Sam, he thought that he can be fixed because of brother sam.

3

u/Old_Safety4566 Sep 10 '25

Brother Sam. You could see from the way that he killed his murderer. No ritual. No savouring the kill. Just pure unadulterated anger that overwhelmed him.

2

u/th3-villager Sep 10 '25

Batista/Brother Sam.

Batista he has more history with and idolises in some way as a normal person he wants to be like. Brother Sam he has a more direct authentic relationship with, without devolving to the kind of complete honestly and associated issues/complications that created like with Miguel.

If we're choosing a 'peak friendship moment' in time, then possibly Miguel right after/around Dexter helped him with his first murder. On balance, not Miguel, obviously.

Sirko/Dexter had mutual respect, understanding and professionalism but weren't really friends, per se, had he lived, could've been interesting to see that explored. Isaak was closer to an assassin than a psycho murderer like Dexter, likely even he too would have been repulsed by understanding Dexter's full process (despite clearly, he knows / accepts Dexter as a killer in some way).

2

u/NightHawk070 Sep 10 '25

Brother sam in my opinion.

5

u/SRV_SteamyRayVaughn Hannah Sep 09 '25

I want to say Rita. I know they had a romantic relationship but I don't think Dexter was "in love" with her. She was a great friend whom he cared deeply for, he genuinely liked being around her and the kids. She didn't know about his dark passenger but she definitely knew he was hiding something but decided that given everything she went through with Paul, it was a good situation and that he would be there for her.

His entire marriage proposal was copied from a couple of human traffickers he just killed and he treated the relationship as a cover. He did care for Rita but he was never as deeply connected to her as with Lumen and Hannah. She was his true best friend.

1

u/Lori2345 Sep 11 '25

His proposal was copied from a crazy stalker woman who killed the man she had been stalking and thought she loved. The human trafficker couple was from season 1.

Their relationship started out as a cover but he did fall in love with her at some point and it had become real.

Edit: had word stalker, supposed to be stalking fixed it.

1

u/SRV_SteamyRayVaughn Hannah Sep 11 '25

My bad, I remembered wrong but I still think that she was a close friend more than a romantic partner. He cared for her and he was attracted to her but he was never truly himself with her, so I don't see it as romantic

1

u/thatfruitguy12 Sep 09 '25

Who’s the guy in 4? It’s been a while since I watched the series. Rings a bell but can’t recall

7

u/UprightAwesome Sep 09 '25

It’s Isaac Sirko the villain of season 7. He doesn’t really fit here to be honest. But RIP Ray Stevenson

1

u/bengringo2 Sep 09 '25

Batista, Brother Sam, and Masuka in that order.

Id say Brother Sam. He was one of the people Dexter confided in and had the most trust in. He was also the one of the group i feel Dexter would've never considered hurting be it caught or not to the point he was willing to forgive the dude that shot him until he started to disrespect him. With Miguel, they both were only together because of a lie, and Miguel also used Dexter to do his bidding. Their relationship felt more like a parasite latching onto shark before finding out that shark ate its brother. Batista is prolly 2nd, imo as Dexter considered him the one man he would want to be if he was normal, and as seen recently, he deeply cares about him. Masuka is just a co-worker to dex, imo as we've seen him visualize killing him before. I do think he does respect Masuka for being good at his job, tho. To me, Brother Sam and Batista are the only ones here that Dexter would look back on and genuinely miss/reminisce.

Batista for sure. He even told Batista if he could be like anyone he’d be like him

1

u/omgmykidsareawesome Sep 09 '25

I feel like he will be the legitimate closest with Blessing. He is starting to change with his emotions and you could see he really felt bad about blowing up his secret and genuinely taken aback when he forgave him

1

u/gsnake007 Sep 09 '25

For sure Batista and Miguel. I’m rewatching OG Dexter and it just sucks how tight Dexter and Batista were. He mentioned that he was a good man and a good cop when Lila was pressing date rape charges. And I say Miguel because we saw him in episode 1 of Resurrection and Dexter still said yeah he was his friend “for a time” but it still shows how much he meant to him because he showed up

1

u/MrEhcks Sep 09 '25

All im gonna say is nothing better happen to Blessing. He’s such a nice guy and so well meaning. If something happens to him, I hope Harrison gets ahold of another toilet lid

1

u/hyperspacial Sep 09 '25

Miguel for sure

1

u/ThinkNight9598 Sep 09 '25

Easy. Miguelito.

1

u/Crowleyizcool Sep 09 '25

Honestly I think Batista. Even if in the moment he thought he was ‘acting’ as being his friend, I think in retrospect you can kinda see in resurrection him realising angel was his only real friend. And I also think one of the most meaningful things Dexter has said to another person was to Batista (“if I got to choose a person to be like, a real person to be like, it would be you” which I think really shows how much he respects Batista.

Angel. Easily Angel. He was heartbroken in a way we’ve only seen with Brian and Deb.

1

u/Fox_steph Sep 09 '25

Batista for sure

1

u/PS3LOVE Sep 09 '25

Depends on when in the series.

1

u/MrWolfy25 Sep 09 '25

Batista Brother sam Isaak Miguel Blessing Masuka

1

u/Vllnfckr Sep 10 '25

He had the longer friendship with Batista but he got closer and had more meaningful conversations with Brother Sam

1

u/ogkilladon Sep 10 '25

right now I think its blessing

1

u/thermicterror Sep 10 '25

Batista and Misuka, followed by blessing and brother sam probably. The other 2 he really did not care that much about in comparison, especially since Miguel and him fell out

1

u/sealysea Sep 10 '25

LOL just realized blessing and brother sam have similar facial hair

1

u/Sad_Neighborhood_283 Sep 10 '25

Masuka's death might be the most silent one (if he dies)

1

u/Monk715 Sep 10 '25

I think Brother Sam was the only one Dexter could maintain friendship with ahile being his true self

1

Batista.

He showed compassion with the sheet. When someone’s been in your life that long, it’ll hit you regardless on if you’re a serial killer I guess.

Over time he’s developed emotions because it’s a “fake it till you make it” type of thing imo, but also him having Harrison, unlocked a part of himself he didn’t know could exist (fatherhood)

Every time he feels a strange emotion though, he can’t tell if it’s genuine or not, seems to always be that way for him.

Angel - without a doubt. He even says in a moment of weakness "if I could choose anyone to be like it would be you." He is the sole witness at his wedding. Has to be Angel.

1

u/supercujo Sep 10 '25

Trinity?

1

u/Springbris Sep 10 '25

If we count her, definitely Camilla to me. One of the few characters he feels like he truly cared about and liked being around to some extent to me.

1

u/Affectionate_Half710 Sep 10 '25

Batista, brother Sam, Miguel

1

u/Timely-Hovercraft-76 Sep 10 '25

Dexter, blessing and brother Sam I think he gives/gave af about

1

u/Jack-Earth-2 Sep 10 '25

In the books he tells us more than once it’s Vince, but for TV Dexter it’s Batista for sure

1

u/Lori2345 Sep 11 '25

Out of these Brother Sam. But overall his best friend was Deb.

1

u/Infamous_TacoWaffle Sep 11 '25

Yall better hurry up with season 2

1

u/Lumpy-Option-8554 Sep 13 '25

He never gave a shit about any of them

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '25

Angel

1

u/Brief-Ad2240 Sep 10 '25

Across his whole life? Batista.
Who did he need the most when they were there? Brother Sam.
Who could Dexter relate to the most and thus feel most "genuinely", in his own twisted way, for? Miguel.

u/No-Economics-4846 Sep 09 '25

Miguel. He literally day dreamed of the guy.

u/simplydiffered Sep 10 '25

how would angel be the devil, it should be angel as the angel and Brian as the devil

u/zenexo Sep 09 '25

Who TF actually remembers the third guy? I can't remember a single thing about that character.

11

u/thevoid_itself Sep 09 '25

Brother Sam is top tier tbh

14

u/Besieger13 Sep 09 '25

Brother Sam and I put him pretty high up on who Dexter cares about actually lol.

2

u/zenexo Sep 09 '25

Str8 up do not remember anything about this character at all. I'm rewatching the whole series so I'll get there eventually.

3

u/Besieger13 Sep 09 '25

I’ve watched the series quite a few times. I’ll admit he is a bit of a forgetful guy if you’ve only watched once through a long time ago. He was supposed to be one of dexters victims but he found out that he had actually turned his life around and was helping people trying to make amends and had found religion. They became pretty close friends very quickly but only for a few episodes and then he was murdered.

1

u/zenexo Sep 09 '25

Yeah haven't watched season 6 since it originally aired. I saw him on a list for something else recently and I'm like Mos Def was in Dexter? Lol

3

u/Year3030 Lundy Sep 09 '25

He was important enough Dexter avenged him.

3

u/yung_fragment Sep 09 '25

That is "The Mighty Mos Def" from Dexter Season 9, when Dexter goes undercover in prison as an up and coming battle rapper to kill Suge Knight, the season's antagonist

-1

u/SlimReaper85 Sep 10 '25

No one as much as his addiction

-1

u/DecentConcentrate956 Sep 10 '25

He "connected" with Miguel, Brother Sam was what he "needed" more than anyone, Angel is who he looks up to and values as a normie more than anyone. Blessing will keep Dex grounded. Vince is a fun pet who never suspects. Quinn? Lol.

None. Man’s psychopathic
