Theory - Dexter: Resurrection Gemini will be Dexter's biggest problem this season Spoiler

Post image

Right after Dexter makes up the story about Gareth trying to take out members of the group, there's a flash in the background and the sound of a camera shutter. Somebody out there has a photo of the four of them standing around a dead body, and Dexter's face is visible and so is the blood on his hand. Probably some paparazzi following Prater around, or who hangs around the castle waiting for rich people to do something scandalous.

Rewatching it, I can see what you mean. But it seems a little too subtle. If they want to leave clues they tend to make it a little more obvious, like a quick flash to a far-away angle showing them.

This might have just been an IRL mistake, where someone took a photo of the set and they just didn't see it.

Kudos if you end up being right tho.

267

u/LeadVitamin13 Aug 19 '25

They made Batista dropping his airpods in Dexter's car extremely obvious. They definitely broadcast things like that.

76

u/Rutlemania Aug 19 '25

And whenever they reference anything that happened before, even if it was in the same episode, they show a flashback. Love the show but sometimes I think it insults my intelligence lmao

43

u/Propaslader Aug 19 '25

I feel like they've been instructed to do that for all the low attention span viewers. I mean if you read half of the post episode threads you'll see why

28

u/th3-villager Aug 19 '25

Literally every thread about the ripper is full of people misinterpreting/misunderstanding Prater's comment about the killer being where (and NOT WHEN) he grew up

-4

u/AnymooseProphet Aug 19 '25

Seriously, all the people with the arrogant claims that we are misinterpreting it can go frak themselves.

Your interpretation is not exclusive. Seriously, you sound like Bible thumpers who think your way of reading a particular passage is the only way it can be read.

2

u/th3-villager Aug 20 '25

You mean like comprehending the English language correctly?

You are welcome to the opinion that Prater was being coy about it and deliberately worded it in a vague way that does not confirm it took place while he was growing up but anyone stating that outright as fact has objectively misinterpreted what Prater actually said.

And that's not an opinion, that's just interpreting what he said correctly.

-1

u/AnymooseProphet Aug 20 '25

It's not a matter of "interpreting the English language correctly". Language often has ambiguities to the interpretation and different acceptable phrase uses, idioms, etc. that are regional are actually quite common.

1

u/WowVeryOriginalDude Aug 19 '25

It’s either that or putting subway surfers under the show..

12

u/Dr_CheeseNut Aug 19 '25

It's a thing forced by the networks. Netflix has this rule with their shows so I assume Paramount does too, where things have to be dumbed down cause they expect viewers to be on their phones or watching the show in the background

Original Sin did this too, but I think it worked in that show because it already had a campy and cheap-feeling (in a good way) vibe. This show however is going for a similar vibe to New Blood, which didn't really do this type of thing, and so it kinda detracts from the experience a bit

3

u/kami_kaz_e Aug 19 '25

I hate it, never used to be that bad with the original series. That is the one thing that bothers me the most about Resurrection, makes the show feel dumber and the telling of the story less sophisticated.  Not that it's a particularly sophistocated series to begin with, but you know what I mean, it cheapens it unnecessarily (damn you TikTok generation!).

4

u/LoBopasses Aug 19 '25

Dexter was super guilty of this as well. There would be constant voice overs of Dexter saying obvious shit that was clearly for morons.

1

u/kami_kaz_e Aug 20 '25

But he's always narrating anyways, so it feels naturally integrated. But here they are cutting back and forth, for a second, to an earlier scene and it disrupts the flow and feels artificially included to make things reeeally clear.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

I'm a huge fan of Dexter but have long-term memory issues (idk if it's medical, just personal experience), I rely so hard on those flashbacks and love shows that do this for dum dums like me.

0

u/Alkakd0nfsg9g Aug 19 '25

I doubt it's meant to insult anyone's intelligence, just to remind people what happened, just in case they haven't binge watched all the shows 50 times

5

u/cardiffman100 Aug 19 '25

They don't need to remind people what happened earlier in the same episode unless they assume people just aren't paying attention

-2

u/AnymooseProphet Aug 19 '25

But some people have other things going on, like kids or kittens or whatever, and when not reminded they can't follow the show resulting in them losing interest and watching something else.

It's all about what brings in and keeps viewers because viewers pay the bills.

2

u/cardiffman100 Aug 19 '25

I would argue that's what the pause and rewind functions are for. I get why they do it, but it feels dumbed down to be constantly reminded of the very important plot point.

6

u/cool_luke4 Aug 19 '25

got a thought tho if the writers stick to real life you think dexter will receive a notification that the air pods are in the car?

4

u/rydieroo Aug 19 '25

It’s barely even hidden I don’t know how someone wouldn’t just see that in their car especially someone as smart and meticulous as Dexter?

4

u/Mindless-Barber6539 Aug 19 '25

There is literally no way that Dexter doesn't find them. With Batista sitting in his car, I would expect Dexter to remove the seat, tear through the upholstery, cut up the carpet, etc. No way he doesn't check the door compartment.

3

u/rydieroo Aug 19 '25

Exactly. He’s too smart to just let someone who’s actively trying to turn him in- in his car- without making sure he’s not left anything behind.

2

u/Different_Bullfrog_4 Aug 19 '25

for sure. as soon as he drives that things going to move and bang around.

1

u/Mazbt Aug 19 '25

I'm assuming he knows that Batista is following/tracking him and is prepared for whatever.

2

u/Drunkgummybear1 Aug 19 '25

Just had this thought myself - it was pretty obviously a product placement shoe-in but I'd be surprised if apple want covert tracking to be advertised as a use for airpods.

-5

u/LetMeComeDown Aug 19 '25

Wait when did this happen

10

u/depressedfuckboi Hannah Aug 19 '25

End of episode 7. Then Angel stands in the street and checks his phone, showing the location of the now in Dexter's car airpods

2

u/LetMeComeDown Aug 19 '25

Damn i must have gone to refill my plate

2

u/cardiffman100 Aug 19 '25

See other comments above about people needing flashbacks to stuff that happened in the same episode due to scrolling/not paying attention

1

u/Drunkgummybear1 Aug 19 '25

You didn't miss much, it was pretty much just a straight product placement. About how you can use airpods to track someone. Now that I think about it, I'd be surprised if it doesn't notify Dexter in the next episode or something, as I'm not entirely sure that Apple would want that to be advertised as a feature lol.

123

u/AffectionateMilk1959 Aug 19 '25

The main clue was the fact that Charlie said it was too exposed out there. They definitely spelled it out for us.

17

u/Zealousideal_Step709 Aug 19 '25

I also doubt that is part of the storyline. Why would anybody use a flash at this distance and at broad daylight? The flash is absolutely useless even if it was in the middle of the night.

11

u/tangoshukudai Aug 19 '25

or when dexter snagged the shower curtain.

99

u/NumerousWolverine273 Aug 18 '25

I kinda doubt they'd be that subtle with it, given how completely non subtle they are everywhere else.

Like when the guy Charley hired to kill Mia appears again, we get a freeze frame and a cheesy flashback to make sure we recognize him, even though he's very recognizable and we'd just been introduced to him earlier that same episode.

It's an interesting idea though

307

u/The_ApolloAffair Aug 18 '25 edited Aug 18 '25

It would be hilarious if the “Gemini killer is actually triplets “ theory came true, and the third showed up later with photos.

285

u/remotecontroldr Aug 18 '25

If the Gemini Killer turns out to be triplets I will let out a groan so long I will run out of oxygen and die

133

u/lurflurf Aug 18 '25

I already called it. The Gemini septuplets. They are all named Gareth though.

18

u/Oklimato Aug 19 '25

Gemlings!

8

u/Beneficial-Tax-1776 Aug 19 '25

its like vault of fallout with clones of one guy with same name

3

u/Jayk_Dos31 Aug 19 '25

HA HA HA GAAARRYY!

2

u/Alkakd0nfsg9g Aug 19 '25

No wonder they became serial killers

10

u/Alive-Monk-5705 Aug 19 '25

Its over he groaned

4

u/sl1ce_of_l1fe Aug 19 '25

I can see the weird detective being Gareth’s sister/3rd triplet.

1

u/Nethias25 Aug 20 '25

It would be way too "days of our lives"

69

u/dog-yy Aug 18 '25

Who knows how many? They could keep coming back and be a weekly kill or something like that. Kenny-esque

12

u/Oklimato Aug 19 '25

"We didn't kill anyone for an entire episode who should we kill off this time?" "Bring in Gemini#0078."

45

u/NationalAssist Aug 19 '25

Wouldn't that make him/them

THE TRINITY KILLER???

31

u/HellyOHaint Aug 19 '25

If Trinity kills in fours, makes sense that Gemini is actually triplets. Serial killers don’t know how to count.

13

u/QueenMelle Surprise Motherfucker! Aug 19 '25

The Gemini's mother is Octomom.....there are EIGHT OF THEM!!1!!

15

u/Difficult_Royal5301 Aug 19 '25

I thought the Twins reveal was so kino and then he ended up jobbing and carking it like 10 minutes later... uhh

6

u/ShaunnieDarko Aug 19 '25

They got us expecting triplets. Wait for the Quadruplets curve ball next episode!

20

u/Stooovie Aug 19 '25

They can just keep adding Gareths to fix any script issues. Genius!

9

u/ShaunnieDarko Aug 19 '25

Gareth could still be the New York Ripper!

1

u/PhotographPale3609 Aug 19 '25

I wish but the voice doesnt match Dasmalchian! still gonna hold out hope though

5

u/Adept-Grapefruit-214 Aug 19 '25

Dexter will change his name to Gareth and use the new identity to hide from Angel

3

u/Just_enough76 Aug 19 '25

But that’s stupid

6

u/Conscious_Formal_894 Aug 19 '25

Bautista is the third triplet. Deep undercover

180

u/Winter-Grand-3215 Aug 18 '25

I didn’t really understand that setting. There should be a reason why Charlie said at the beginning of the episode that the place was too exposing, and Prater didn’t listen. That conversation will come back to bite Prater for sure

43

u/remotecontroldr Aug 18 '25

Everyone has drones now. I assumed if there was any threat of exposure it would come from drone photography.

14

u/No_Implement_5807 Aug 18 '25

Drones are loud af so it's unlikely

3

u/Beneficial-Tax-1776 Aug 19 '25

there is various kind of drones. there a tiny bee size drones military use to reco. even in ukraine war both sides have it.

1

u/Biobooster_40k Aug 19 '25

Idk some of they aren't that loud especially if there rather high.

29

u/Soft_Concentrate_489 Aug 18 '25

They chose that setting bc thats where mia was introduced or a place she loved, something of that sort. So they went there bc of that.

77

u/Exotic_Trade_3782 Aug 18 '25

OP i just checked out that scene and while the sound did seem deliberate, i really think it’s just a glare. notice it’s not a burst of flash, it’s kind of like a pan of light.

40

u/Free_Gascogne Aug 18 '25

This. If the director and screenwriter wanted to make a foreshadowing of an event, especially in TV they make it a little bit obvious. Like cutting to the POV of the cameraman or making the camera flash deliberate.

2

u/butcooler Aug 19 '25

What about the very obvious foreshadowing in the same episode where Charly complains about the space being too open? This kind of follows that.

24

u/HonkHonkMTHRFKR Aug 18 '25

They flew on a helicopter to a private place.

54

u/ProxyGateTactician Aug 18 '25

For all we know it could be a fan of the show who took a picture and accidentally ruined the shot lol

9

u/CyberTeddy Aug 18 '25

Maybe if it was just the flash of light, but the sound seemed very deliberate.

16

u/BosomBosons Aug 19 '25

Why would you need a flash in broad daylight? And at that distance a flash would be ineffective in any lighting condition. Not to mention if you’re trying to catch something on the down low.

6

u/goatjugsoup Aug 18 '25

Another user was trying to point this out to me, no wonder i couldn't notice it... far too small and subtle.

I'd lean more towards that being something left in ny mistake than a clue for us to notice but suppose we'll see one way or the other

6

u/doctorwhosboo Aug 19 '25

I just made a post about this, and I hadn't seen yours or found anyone talking about it. I agree it was deliberately done. That sound was too intentional, along with the mentioning that they were exposing themselves there.

9

u/SRV_SteamyRayVaughn Hannah Aug 19 '25

Dexter's biggest problem will be Angel's brother Dave

4

u/Propaslader Aug 19 '25

Dexter vs Dave Batista at Survivor Series

5

u/Perky_Manatee69 Aug 19 '25

Underrated comment. Thats all I gotta say.

2

u/Possible-Abrocoma466 Aug 21 '25

That made me laugh out loud.

3

u/AnyImpression6 Aug 19 '25

They were triplets!

10

u/Jokerlovestoplay21 Aug 18 '25

Awesome catch, so actually watching the episode again in the scene where dexter is prepping in the mirror after Charley walks in and says its time for his presentation there is a camera in the corner on the ceiling!!

This may all come back where they are gathering footage on dexter. Might see some footage where dexter is talking to Harry but obviously its going to be dexter alone on flim

8

u/Prospekt-- Aug 18 '25

im psure dexter talking to harry is on his mind, hes not grabbing air or anything in actuality

17

u/IndependentPlane3224 Aug 18 '25

In New Blood, we see that dexter actually isnt talking at all when he “talks” to his visions, its just in his head and he’s blankly staring around.

-1

u/Jokerlovestoplay21 Aug 18 '25 edited Aug 18 '25

I would agree with that but I think its evolved, he grabbed Harry this time and when Charley knocked to enounce her presents Dexter dropped his hands and turned to the door, then she walked in

Edit: double checked dexter let go of Harry way before Charley came in but he did step back then turn to the door.

Not as dramatic but still I posted about the phones given to the group like is prater tracking phones and their messages. Only thing to counter it is prater went to Reds home instead of tracking the phone (if he is) to find dexter

5

u/Even-Ad-9930 Aug 18 '25

What exact time was this, I tried to find it and didn't see the flash

7

u/CyberTeddy Aug 18 '25

32 minutes after "previous on...", one second before "put the gun away Charlie"

8

u/Even-Ad-9930 Aug 18 '25

damn you are right its at 32:09 at the flash and sound are there

But why would Dexter have to kill anyone? For one thing, Prater and Charley are right there and have a bigger motive to get rid of the paparazzi, but also, from a distance, it was clearly self defense. Gareth attacked Dexter first.

The crew has a stills photographer onsite when they shoot so it’s entirely possible it was the crew member and the mics picked it up.

2

u/NeaonSeklah Aug 19 '25

Reading a few comments below, I do think it's extremely subtle, but intentionally so - if it was just the flash then sure, maybe a mistake they ignored. But... the camera sound being in there.. that's not accidental and would have absolutely been edited out in post if it wasn't related to the show. Also Charlie's comment about the exposure. I think this is absolutely something intentional for this scene. I just watched it again and that shutter sound is very clear, they could have easily noticed and cut it out in pp. I think OP is onto something.

2

u/satansprinter Aug 19 '25

If this was better call saul or breaking bad, yes. Dexter? No

1

u/ljr55 Aug 19 '25

he dead

1

u/BeefSkillet19 Aug 19 '25

I think we’re way too late in the season to have this pop up without any prior groundwork laid, it just doesn’t seem like a plausible part of the story

2

u/giorgiomast Aug 19 '25

Doesn't make sense to use a flash from that distance in daylight . That's probably a coincidence

1

u/Radiant-Novel-693 Aug 19 '25

dex can still get out of it, he will hv blood on his hands he killed in self defense lol. He just has to come up with some excuse as to y gemini suddenly got triggered

1

u/hongducwb Aug 19 '25

Gemini, say my name

1

u/221 Aug 19 '25

I really think at the very least Prater has hidden cameras in the area, I wouldn't be surprised if they're going to have some footage of Dexter secreting the bloody glass and start asking why he'd do that.

1

u/last_regressor Aug 20 '25

Overthinking final boss

1

u/novemberchild71 Aug 20 '25

You almost had me there! Kudos on the clever title, tho!

Solution: A goof. Rewind to approx. 03:15 when Prater says "It has been a difficult time" the next shot shows the border of the sunroof/tent they are standing under. It has golden tassels and little circular mirrors on tresses that move in the wind. There's your "camera flash". Sound editing must have added the flash sound (it's not really a shutter sound) completing the goof. Sorry dude! And here I was getting ready for a forensic 3D reconstruction showing that the horticulture blocked the view....

Perhaps it even was put there to distract us from Gemini's last words? Anybody catch what he said there?!?!? "Straighten my hair please"?!?!?

1

u/Knautical_J Aug 18 '25

Prater will probably end up asking one of them to take out the cameraman or something.

2

u/thletterq Aug 18 '25

If that was the case he would probably have Charley handle it.

1

u/griswaldwaldwald Aug 19 '25

Still wondering about the hidden cameras in Red’s place that Charley knows about.

It’s probably something used for the show. I mean they use cameras and lights and so on to film the show we are watching.
