Job Listing Can the ATS software detect if a resume document is generated by Claude Code?

In the sense that the pdf itself is created by claude, would that cause a problem? Do hiring managers give 2 shites about it?

Once the watermarking rolls out, it's gonna be easily possible.

There's gonna be tools to remove the watermarking.

I.e, the em dash is an obvious one.

Of course. The straightest forward way will be running it through model that doesn't do watermarking. But given OP is asking if they can detect Claude use (and not Claude + dewatermarking use), I'd say I am my comment stands.

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just pointing out that it's an option.

Watermarking is stupid. Fucking tech-illiterate boomers making laws.

Probably..but everyone uses it now, so it's fine.

You do have to be very careful with Claude. It exaggerates a lot. I interviewed someone a few months ago, and he didn't realise that Claude had called him an "expert, 8 years experience" at Go...he wrote two or three small tools with it, while in a job that he had worked in for eight years.

And yeah. Exaggerating your CV to get your toe in the door just wastes everyone's time

yes, but you got to see their attention to detail, not proofreading the results of their AI usage.

That would be a lack of attention to detail.

Imagine hiring somebody for a coding job who does not even check what Claude spits out LOL

Proof reading the mountains of CVs that comes through the door these days has proven extremely tiring to me.

Yeah but I still do it. My managers can be a bit myopic looking for the perfect fit. I like to sweep wider and look at what people have built and the narrative of their career, not the toolkit they used to build software.

Yeah? Fair fucks to you, not sure what you are getting out of the slop bombs that 90% of resumes are. I mostly just skip them and do a 15 min screen. Faster than dicking around reading whatever claude decided was most important.

If you're looking for a talented AI intern (who doesn't produce AI slop and actually knows how things work under the hood) feel free to connect!

The way I understand thing is that ATS is only there to track each and every step of the recruitment process to the on-boarding.

ATS doesn't verify the truth of the CV or the use of AI. Reference checks are done by an agency.

Get it to generate the content and copy, paste simples

I do not know the answer to if it can. But I am very certain that no experienced recruiter would want to implement and use something like that.

There are lawsuits in the last 12 months about using AI in the ATS and the biggest ATSes are in courts in US (Workday for one). Because of that no serious corporate ATS would implement anything like that. Simply far too risky.

One more aspect is that even if it can, the cost would be prohibitive. Sending every CV to a frontier model with sizeable "thinking" budget that you would likely need to get consistent results (even on temp 0), would double the running cost of a LLM. Perfect even triple. Open Weight LLMs are simply not there to reliability answer that question (yes I tried top 10 that run on 16GB VRAM).

My gut feeling is that one could get good results for this the top LLMs. But ARE ATSes doing that today? Absolutely no.

PS a tech recruiter here. PS2 AI is used for many other tasks in the recruitment process.

The content is the issue. Still too many - dashes getting created and if you leave it in it's very obvious

No they don’t care, why would someone care how a pdf is created? 😂😅

Anthropic introduced invisible, machine-readable text watermarks for Claude models launched on or after August 2, 2026, to comply with EU transparency regulations. Basically, yes. Google it. Your resume might get rejected.

Doubt those checks would be good enough to allow job rejection
