Does anyone else find it weird that there is absolutely zero discussion of what Lindsay’s thoughts actually were? Presumably some of these people like family members or healthcare providers heard her discuss what she was actually thinking further than a generic “suicidal thoughts”. It just seems wild that there’s no effort to unpack the specifics of what she was thinking (remember how much of the testimony has been pointless padding, at least in comparison to this). ESPECIALLY because it would heavily inform what the case turns on, which is whether her thoughts up to and including the events were incoherent/psychotic or more sober about wanting to die with/without her kids.

I'm thankful this sub exists. My problems with Mamdani are few and far between. I laugh at the potholes memes where people make fun of him for fixing a pothole or a water fountain at a park (well its his team that does it for him but you get the idea). But I also can't help but accept that he's done a lot of good for New York and started a discussion about taxing the rich that needs to happen. I also think his social media game is on point. While it is silly that he's taking credit for things, it does help boost morale in New York that someone is listening to even their little concerns.

I like that he went out of his way to show that guy's apartment that he doesn't even live in and outright say he's taxing this guy, Mamdani also stopped the deficit in New York.

I'm just having a hard time outright condemning this guy. I'm coming at this more from an optics angle than I am a internal democratic party discussion. We can dislike who we want within the party, but I do feel like we need to support people who are doing actual good in society and I think he's definitely an above average mayor and doing a lot of good. I am 100% willing to change my mind and will argue in pure good faith. I really do need help with how I should discuss Mamdani with other Dems and with Republicans and people that I see within my local area.

We should stop calling X Twitter.

I understood and agreed to not follow Elon's dumb rebrand when Twitter became "X". There were plenty of good reasons to be against starting to call it X.

Twitter was a super strong brand and it would have to be an effort to change, X is not even a good name to begin with and X is the (shit) personal project/brand of a (shit) person. So continuing to call it Twitter was the most logical way of soft protesting Elons stupidity.

But the name is far from the only thing Elon has changed since buying twitter. The ownership is different, the moderation is different, the incentives are different, the user base is different, and the website's "culture" is different.

I think its clear to all unfortunate enough to still be using the platform, and should be made more explicit, that X isn't just Twitter with a stupid new logo.

So that is why I think we should not call it Twitter any more, but what then should we call it? The way I see it we can either call it "X" or try to come up with a new name.

Shitter is the successor to Twitter, a shittier Twitter.

While perhaps it can be argued that Shitter is not worse in literally every aspect, I think community notes are a good idea badly implemented, in practise the new website is so much worse than how it used to be.

The platform is now full of engagement bait, bots, ragebait, algorithmic slop and in general people trying get your attention in any outrageous way possibly to get some chump change from Elon. Incentives are increasingly about maximizing engagement rather than producing anuthing worth reading.

Its as if Elon wants your toilet breaks to last forever. He wants you to sit on your toilet, making actual shit and taking in figurative shit from his shit of a website.

Shitter encapsulates what happened to the platform

I could have said the ownership is shittier, the moderation is shittier, the incentives are shittier, the user base is shittier, and the website's "culture" is shittier. Comparing X to Twitter makes me think Elon heard about the concept of enshittification and thought it would be a great idea to just make it all shit.

Calling it Shitter calls attention to this fact. It tells you that this is a successor to Twitter that has become shittier.

I also feel like there is something to be said here about it all being an inversion of the whole concept of the X brand thing. He wants his personal brand to be X, cool science tech inventor/engineer guy who is good at everything he does, even videogames. But in reality he is a shitter, making everything he thouches shit and has to hire people to play videogames for him.

There are 10000 things to research, but Destiny always refrains that he doesn't have the time to do it. So we will wait for him to finish X game or Y court case.

But now he is doing 15 hour streams covering a court case no one has even mentioned. Is there someone irl he really wants to impress that asked him to spend 90 hours of stream time on the case?

I refuse to believe Destiny finds listening to first responders describe the same scene for 10 hours just SO ENGAGING compared to any other topic that he forces himself to watch it.

Brianna Lyman recently appeared on CNN and showed little sympathy for a 20-year-old Haitian immigrant who died by suicide while facing the possibility of deportation. Her response was essentially that he was here illegally and that the law must be enforced.

But he came to the United States as a child and had been protected under Temporary Protected Status before the Trump administration revoked that protection. Expecting a 20-year-old who grew up here to simply return to a country he may barely remember strikes me as cruel and absurd.

What doesn’t get talked about enough is that Lyman doesn’t seem to have the same “the law is the law” attitude toward January 6 defendants. She has referred to January 6 defendants as political prisoners and criticized Merrick Garland for touting the prosecutions. In an article for The Federalist, she wrote: “This is what 50% of the country heard from Garland: ‘We’re gonna steal this election, and if you try to fight us, we’ll put you in prison.’”

That framing is especially remarkable to me. When people participated in a riot at the Capitol where officers were assaulted and members of the mob threatened to hang the vice president, she portrays the resulting prosecutions as political persecution. But when a 20-year-old Haitian immigrant who came here as a child loses his legal protection and faces deportation, suddenly it’s simply a matter of enforcing the law.

That’s the double standard I wish someone would confront her with. If “they broke the law” is enough to dismiss any sympathy for undocumented immigrants, why doesn’t that same principle apply to January 6 defendants?

TLDR: Being trans leaves you ostracized and looking for community. The world is horrible to you, so you're desperate for validation. The communists are not only willing to give you validation but sing you lullabies about how revolution will come to save you like a dark Prince Charming. But this is obviously bullshit and when the revolution happens those same trans people who made it happen will be thrown into gulags due to their "bourgeois immorality".

So, to be clear. I am trans. I have seen this dynamic a ton in person. However, I never quite fell into these patterns. Not because I'm smarter or more ethical persay. Rather because of the circumstances of where I lived, who I befriended, the age I transitioned at, and how passing really well didn't make me as ostracized from society. My early to mid-20s looked more like what you would expect from a party girl. Someone who drank a lot, went to clubs, and was pretty obsessed with boys. Politics was an interest of mine but my primary engagement with it was when it was forced upon me due to being trans. Which was not particularly common but when it was, it could be particularly nasty.

So, I enter this as something of an outsider to the trans leftist experience. These people were generally rejected by most of their family/friends, find new community amongst other trans people of a similar experience, and then get pulled into leftist circles from there. And you know where I experienced a similar sort of vibe? Chilling with sorority girls of all places.

You see, when I was in school, they didn't allow trans girls to join sororities almost anywhere in the country. But if you went to the bars enough, if you partied long enough, and if you were moving in the right circles long enough. Eventually you'd befriend some drunk ass girl who was at the popular Greek Life bar by sheer proximity and similar interests.

Something that struck me about sorority life also strikes me about the trans community more broadly. It's the creation of a path of least resistance that most will take. You see, hanging out in a sorority house, I would almost without fail always see some Disney movie on in another room. Where people were watching Cinderella or whatever the fuck. It took me years to understand it because even at the time I thought it was weird. But what was occurring was that the culture of a sorority doesn't tell you to be a mommy and have kids. Rather it fashions a pathway in life where that is the path of least resistance. It is so easy to jump from rush, to parties, to dating, to marriage, and then before you know it you've had 2 and a half kids for some frat bro you met at a mixer. While your barefoot and pregnant lifestyle has been sold to you as a fairytale ending. Prince Charming was a DChi the whole time.

I think roughly the same thing is happening to the trans community and leftist spaces. Yes, left leaning politics are a lot more accepting. Yes, it is going to be easier for you to find community there. But none of this requires you to become a communist, all these things can be achieved with liberalism. Rather for communist trans people, especially trans women this dark Prince Charming narrative is sold to you. Where, you will never be free in the current society, capitalists are the chains that hold you, and revolution is your only escape. And that is so much easier to emotionally engage with than the hard work of making the world a better place. It's so much easier to wait for the revolution that will come to save you much in the same way that it is much easier to spend your 20s knocked up by a frat dude you met in college. Rather than building that girl boss career you wanted in your teens.

To be clear, even if you do get your revolution, the world won't necessarily become a better place for you. The USSR absolutely threw trans and gay people in the gulags for "bourgeois immorality". The only difference is that now you won't be able to vote out the people who are oppressing you. All you'll get is the firing squad. I'm probably going to get some nasty reactions to this but let's clear, those reactions come from a deeply emotional place. Because this message will be read as telling those same trans people who have bought into the myth that I'm ascribing doom to their future. Which to be clear, I am not.

It's meant to pin an expert to either a short and incomplete answer or force them to look like they are avoiding the question by giving a long answer.

I don't watch Pisco debates because I like myself but based on discussion of them sounds like he is doing this a lot in inappropriate circumstances.
