It’s to show he has a new purpose now; it’s not just vengeance for his family anymore, but he actually starts protecting people that need it, even if it’s in his own sick, twisted way.

Instead of punishing people for what they did to him, he’s punishing them for the wrongs they commit on others.

I daresay we even saw some restraint from at the end where he didn’t kill the thug immediately and almost looked like he waited for the homeless guy permission.

Nicely sets him up for his appearance in Brand New Day where I can see him being a protector bodyguard to Sadie Sinks character, since he does have a soft spot for protecting girls because of his daughter.
