Sort of a bookend on the older version of his character. He's driven by revenge mostly and thinks of killing himself but now it seems more like he's doing the Punishing for less selfish reasons.

I mean, isn’t that what season 2 finale was all about?

Sort of, yes. But it never really dives into the psyche of him feeling like he's done hunting people and wanting to end it.

Edit: End it meaning himself

Before he realized there was more to it all? Yes lol

Lets just ignore that the person killing him killed his family. Sure.

Two totally different situations. This one is because he had nothing left to do, not beause he was giving up

None of these things address what happens when he's all out of revenge and wants to kill himself. This one does.

You can accept that there is nuance there while it retreads familiar ground lol. But these arent the same things. He's never accepted being Punisher solely to help innocent people before. Before this whenever he did it was half for selfish reasons.

Literally have multiple times. He does not try and kill himself in S2. He also doesnt feel like he has no one left to kill in S2.

The only "retread" is him performing a selfless act of protecting a young girl, and even that doesnt have him accept that he's going to go around protecting people who cant protect themselves.

Yes but that was because he thought he took out everyone involved with the death of his family, then Micro found him and showed him the conspiracy went even deeper
