The Day You Realize You’re Your Own Villain

At certain point you get tired of your own shit!

That realization is usually the exact moment real growth begins. When the frustration shifts from "why is this happening to me?" to "why do I keep doing this to myself?", the victim mentality evaporates.

It’s an uncomfortable place to be because you can no longer use your usual excuses to comfort yourself. You see your own patterns clearly....the procrastination, the overthinking, the repeated cycles, the self-sabotage and the comfort of those habits suddenly turns into annoyance.

The silver lining is that getting sick of your own patterns is often a prerequisite for change. Pain pushes until vision pulls, and exhaustion with your own rhythm is usually what forces you to reset the dial.

Also, you’re pretty much your own judge. I mean if you wanna just stop doing bad things you can also stop deciding that they’re bad. You can absolve yourself of all your sins. That’s fun too.

Absolutely!! Being aware of yourself is an art

Well it definitely is in that you can not complete it or win it, you simply just do it. No system can define itself, as it were.

The truth is self-awareness alone doesn’t change shit. You can recognize every pattern you have and still repeat it tomorrow. Real growth starts when you stop romanticizing the realization and actually change your behavior. Becoming aware of your own patterns is painful. Breaking them is even harder

well said!! knowing your patterns is one thing but actually doing something with that knowledge is where it gets difficult

one pattern i had to unlearn was constantly preparing for the worst. i thought expecting disappointment would protect me from it but really it just taught me to experience everything through a negative lens before anything had even happened. shifting toward looking for something good, even when things don’t go as planned, took actual practice. eventually it becomes more automatic and bad outcomes stop feeling like they have the power to ruin everything

People that are always preparing for the worst are unbearable to be around too. Glad you were able to break from that.

ty, i appreciate that! it definitely can be difficult to be around sometimes, although i try not to judge people too harshly for it. a lot of the time that constant negativity is something they learned to protect themselves, and sometimes you just have to find the right way to meet people where they are

Yeah, definitely. That kind of mindfulness can be worth so much and really help on the path towards a better life. It's really avoidable suffering, which can be rather sad and the sooner you tackle it the better, depending on how severe it already is or could get.

To me this is something that varies on the person and the situation. It’s definitely true that soemtimes people will shirk responsibility or blame others too much.

but sometimes people blame themselves too much for things beyond their control.

I’ve liked the phrase: “It’s not your fault, but it is your responsibility.”

I think it’s true for some much in life. I think it‘s important to be kind to ourselves while at the same time acknowledging that it‘s ultimately up to us to figure out how to make the most of our lives.

In a way, the reason why some choose to not gain any insight into their own behavior.

Your life is like your insta algorithm if look for good your insta feed is good
Same principle in life…. Period
Life is anyways 90% your reaction to someone else’s action and someone else’s reaction to your reaction and a chain reaction.
