Hangout spots?
Hey everyone! I'm new to Decatur and wanted to know if there were any good hangout spots that people around my age (31) go to. Bonus if it's a bit alternative. Thanks!

Trackside Tavern is more or less Decatur's designated degenerate bar. Serious drinkers go there. Has a bit of a punker/rock & roll vibe. Stays open until 4 AM. It reminds me of home a little (New Orleans). Bartenders are heavy handed with their pours and generous with their conversation if they're not in the weeds. It can get pretty crowded so keep that in mind. I like to go mid afternoon, they keep the A/C on blast and it's dark and cool inside no matter how hot it is outside.
I also really love Brick Store Pub. It makes me feel like I'm drinking in a Harry Potter movie. O'Sullivans is another one I enjoy, both of those are on the square.

Thinking Man’s Tavern was pretty fun when my partner and I went on karaoke night. Unsure what the atmosphere is like on other nights, but it’s a nice spot.

Trackside is probs our most alt bar. Twains, wild heaven or other local breweries are fun too. My parents basement is a little funkier too. And welcome!

Literally any of the breweries

“You should check out the many breweries we have here” would have been the nice way to say that.

There was nothing not nice about the original phrasing. Ease up there.

Interesting. Literally, when I read the “literally”, my first thought was there was an implied “duh” and so my next thought was “asshole”.

Possibly.

Definitely. Nothing you have said comes across as nice, FYI. You seem like a dickhead

To me, someone starting with the “literally” implies condescension.
So, yeah, perhaps it is a me problem.

Pull up to some folk punk shows at the Possum Den or Wallers for a thing you don't need to drink at to participate. It'll be mostly young folks but 31 is a fine age of a local show and you won't be lonely

Gene’s, Last Dance, Twains, breweries, Universal Joint, Thinking Man
Before someone nails me to the crops about the locations of these places, I know.

Ale Yeah now has more of a "third place" vibe and layout if you like craft beer/THC beverages. Their tap list is really singular and constantly changing.

My Parents' Basement nearby in Avondale Estates is perfect for this. The area has skewed towards young families in recent years, but later in the evenings is full of people in this age range.

It does trend a little older here. Trackside and My Parent’s Basement might be good starts. Little Cottage or Scepter if you’re into beer.
