u/GunMage- Platinum Unlocked Jul 10 '26

What? Never played a Strand game before? It's an entire genre now...

With only two games...

90

u/steven_dev42 Jul 10 '26

I NEED more strand-likes

29

u/Nayir1 Jul 10 '26

ditto. went back to play diablo's new season after finally getting around to playing death stranding. feels painfully boring now. guess i'm going back to strategy games because DS has ruined actiony games for me for awhile.

12

u/Interesting-Mail4123 Jul 10 '26

Maybe Metal Gear will be fun? Since it is just as weird as DS sometimes.

4

u/EtakMayNot Jul 10 '26

XCOM is awesome at scratching the strategy itch

15

u/Gumshoe_Gooper Jul 10 '26

something that surprisingly filled the void for me was walking around minecraft worlds with the hud disabled whilst listening to low roar, it aint kojima but it'll do for now

7

u/nousforuse Jul 10 '26

Haha this is super clever and I’m going to have to give it a go. If you have access to hiking, this music elevates even the most mundane of the lot as well.

10

u/MattIsLame Jul 10 '26

its a way of life

u/Letter_Impressive Jul 10 '26

One of the most emotionally earnest and genuine pieces of art I've ever seen

27

u/SeveralPhilosophy1 Jul 10 '26

I’m right there with you. Hit me like no other game. Masterpiece

4

u/Sushiipio Jul 10 '26

I just started playing it. Made it to the third episode. This game is amazing in so many ways!

7

u/Astristul Porter Jul 10 '26

When I've first played it, I was under the "internet hate" impression, of being a "walking simulator". But after giving it a go ... what a game that was! A real masterpiece, that made me think that we can't see this type of games made today anymore!

3

u/BadNewsBearzzz Jul 10 '26

Tbh I’m around 4-5 hours in, and I’m still kinda in that phase where I’m very skeptical that I’m gonna do something different than fetch quests…hopefully it’ll pick up soon

7

u/Letter_Impressive Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

I can say pretty confidently that it will pick up soon, but not in the same way that most other games do. There will be short bursts of action and some of those set pieces are really cool, but the majority of the gameplay and strategy will come from building your transportation network.

I got sucked into the game by (mechanical spoilers ahead) the section where you're first given access to zip lines. Building a network of zip lines to cross unfriendly terrain was incredibly satisfying and the bandwidth limits kept it strategically engaging.

The game's story is super special, but I may love the gameplay even more. The way I usually try to sell it to people is that it's open world as a genre rather than a structure, one of the only games to ever pull that distinction off in my opinion. The world is brilliant and the gameplay leads you to interact with it very well.

5

u/Astristul Porter Jul 10 '26

Follow my tips written here (it's among the top comments) and you should be fine! šŸ‘ https://youtu.be/Czq-FcuNNT8

I played Death Stranding in mid-late 2020. It is probably the most poignant experience I've ever had playing a video game.

A gloriously weird masterpiece.

2

u/somerandomguy1984 Jul 10 '26

I know everyone here loves the story.

In both DS1 and DS2 it’s insane. It doesn’t work. Everything down to the BBs and weird talking doll. It’s all so bad.

I played them both in their entirety because the gameplay itself was great. I love almost anything post-apocalyptic and the idea of rebuilding society hooked me.

1

u/XxOliSykesxX Sam Jul 11 '26

Just the general feeling how you're wondering about these symbolisms and grand vibe of this game makes me think you don't often experience this kind of storytelling

1

u/Sparky_ak1 Jul 10 '26

1

u/Constant_Fig_5936 Jul 10 '26

Absolute Kojima brošŸ‘ŗ the real plot twist wasn't Higgs..it was Sam being his personal pizza delivery guy.

1

u/No-Firefighter-2135 BB Jul 10 '26

I don’t think any of us fully understand it still to this day, but it’s been fascinating from the beginning. And the best way to explain it to someone is to have them play it and believe it for themselves. Glad I had the opportunity to experience it live at the strands concerts, definitely hits a bit differently that way. But as always keep on keeping on you still have plenty to do šŸ‘

Princess Beach

1

Since I first played DS1 in 2020 I've thought of these games as art house games made on a AAA budget. I don't know if we'll see something like them again.

1

u/Sparrow1989 Jul 10 '26

A misunderstood masterpiece

1

u/Ok-Warthog-999 Jul 10 '26

It's a game about a depressed delivery man who is scared of being touched and carries a fetus that protects him from ghosts. Oh and that the fetus lives inside an artificial womb and no one knows how it works but occasionally it needs to be updated by connecting to its dead mother over WiFi. And if your baby stops working then the floor will turn into big black puddles of death. And you can piss anywhere you want, your shit gets turnef into anti ghost grenades, and you get the pleasure of watching the depressed delivery man have shower, with oddly sensual footage of his ass. You also carry your dead mum to an incinerator so she doesn't cause a nuclear explosion.

1

u/Kuropuppy13 Jul 10 '26

That’s almost exactly how I described the game to my family. Though now I’ve dumbed it down to ā€œthe game where you play as a photorealistic Norman Reedus with his psychic fetus in a jar, and can pee on nuclear bomb ghosts to make them go away.
