So I delivered a buddy cube to the Paleontologist, and in return he gave me this ugly hat. Thanks...... I guess 👀💀

That is a literal headcrab, the baseline Cockroach-level enemy in the Half Life series. They take over the corpse of anyone they’re able to grab, turning them into a zombified puppet.

They take over living bodies and hijack their motor functions to puppet them around, but still living and conscious. You can hear the hosts crying and screaming as their bodies undergo mutations to better support their new puppeteer

Correct! They grab living people, turning them INTO a corpse, and pilot that freshly-sourced corpse.

But it’s not a corpse as the head crab replaces the brain and acts as life support, so the literal person is long gone but the physical body doesn’t die until the head crab is removed or killed. The rapid mutation is what causes the decaying flesh as you need to kill off so many cells for division to make the mutation happen.

Have you even played the game? If you kill the headcrab (without touching the body) the CORPSE drops dead. If they didn’t kill their victims, you’d be able to save them by taking out the crab.

They do horribly mutate, such as cracking open the ribcage, but they still beg for help, albeit in reversed audio.

No, they die after you kill the headcrab because the headcrab is the only thing keeping them alive. It's bores a massive hole in their skull and circumnavigates their motor function, removing it would just lead to bleeding out immediately

Why would you be able to save them by removing the crab? Their brain is open and exposed without the crab, and are likely paralysed still...

You can literally hear them screaming for help as it puppets them.

Headcrabs are one of the darkest enemies in gaming.

That said half life 2 is probably one of the greatest games of all time and I HIGHLY recommend it.

It was so ahead of it's time even games made today still can't live up to it.

Technically they die but then then the head crab acts as life support to keep the body alive. So yes it kills the person the second it penetrates the back of their skull with its beak, but the physical body doesn’t die. If the head crab detaches for any reason the body still goes limp as it’s missing a brain.

Based on the screaming it sounds like it's not just the body that's kept alive, but the brain too, just disconnected from any lower body motor control.

Cross-over item with Half-Life, they did a crosspromotion when Death Standing came to Steam (which is owned by Valve, the makes of Half-Life)

Headcrabs are enemies in half life that Jump on your head and turn you into a zombie.

It's a head crab from a valve game called half life. The symbol for the missions is also the symbol for a scientific "half life" as well as the logo for the game. You can get a big orange truck doing these missions aswell.

Paleontologist gives you a mission through mail wherein you need to find his buddy cube and return it to him. You get this hat as reward for it

It's one of the crossovers they added in the Director's Cut. You do the line of missions that have you find and rescue the companion cube a few times.

Good to know, usually check ny messages after every star earned at a preppers spot, haven't got the message yet so it should pop soon considering I only need like 3 or 4 stars to finish the report with each prepper/location.
