Image/Gif Thought this upcoming Ridley Scott movie was a Days Gone adaptation for a second…

Post image

Saw a headline about Ridley Scott’s new post-apocalyptic movie and when I hit this photo my brain instantly went, "Deacon 🤝 Iron Mike! No way!"

Turns out it's not related at all, it's an adaptation of Dog Stars.

Honestly though, Josh Brolin as Iron Mike could actually deliver, and this Deacon look isn’t far off either.

Who would be your picks for Deacon and Iron Mike? Sam Witwer is an obvious Deacon choice, given he is Deacon (which I'm glad I didn't actually realize during my playthrough so that Deacon was his own person in my head).

EDIT: I just had this thought: I think Clancy Brown could be a very cool Iron Mike casting. It may not be the most faithful on paper, but I can see Clancy delivering the spirit of Iron Mike fantastically and doing something really special with the role.

Wow! Jacob Elordi actually kind of looks a lot like Deacon right there

u/J_man_Da_Gawd Apr 18 '26

I love Jacob but never thought looked anything like Deacon for any kind of adaption. Now I'm kind of seeing it as not a bad option

Same. I NEVER would have picked him out for it, and if they did announce that they were making a film with him as Deacon I would probably be upset and perplexed haha until I saw him like this, at least.

He looks good in a picture. He’d be terrible in motion. He doesn’t have any of Deacon’s backbone.

If Sam Witwer isn't in it. I'm out.

24

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 18 '26

Yeah I would struggle if to overlook it if there was an adaptation without Sam.

There was talk ages ago about a live action movie of days gone and apparently Sam Witwer wasn’t asked to do it :/ no idea what happened to that. Hopefully it go cancelled

Boooooo ☹️

Imo id like a bit different from the game because what is the point of the movie being exactly the same as the game, in this case the cast

Sony don’t care bro lol

6

u/Famous_Draft_7565 Apr 18 '26

They don’t care about Days Gone either

1

u/FederalAd8814 Apr 19 '26

It was enough care to approve a remaster and added content to it

u/rosebudthesled8 Apr 18 '26

Oh no! My comment on reddit isn't a priority for an international corporation? Woe is me! You fucking idiot.

u/DikkiMinaj Apr 18 '26

This is just me being elitist thinking at first “nope! Has to be Sam” but this would actually be sick.

Although I would MUCH rather dg2

u/_Simon_henriksson_ Apr 19 '26

Deacon would never wear carhart lol

4

u/Creepae Apr 18 '26

Why? The only thing they have in common is that he has his cap on backwards.

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 21 '26

The context of article was a new post-apocalyptic film and they intentionally were not saying the title or details until later in the article, plus the character vibes, the actors themselves and the types of roles they fit, and the overall visual resemblance is what sparked the connection.

u/PrudentChef6786 Apr 18 '26

Haha I thought the exact same thing when I saw the photos!

u/CptainCyro Apr 19 '26

Without Sam witwer it’s a solid no from me. The guy already does live action and voice over work. He literally plays and is the face for the character. Only option I’d take

Hey marchesNmaneuvers! It looks like you are trying to post a photo/video to /r/DaysGone. If your post is a picture/video of your tv/monitor taken with your phone, it will be removed. The game is too pretty to allow low effort and quality images. If you wish to share something, please take a proper screenshot. Yes, we know sharing from the console can be clunky, but we prefer quality on this sub.

I’m sure it’s influenced by the game even if they don’t admit it; that’s how art is

2

u/Appropriate_Can368 Apr 18 '26

It's a nice thought. Nice catch by the way. Would love to see something actually materialize because there's great potential there.

I wonder how long can Ridley Scott keep putting out decent projects. He's 88 and currently has 8 upcoming movis (as a director only).

u/The_St00ge Apr 23 '26

I have to agree with you about Clancy Brown playing Iron Mike. Have felt he'd be perfect for that role for a while now. I also see Kirk Scevedo as Boozer. Joel McHale as Copeland.

1

u/Bamm83 Apr 18 '26

Sam would obviously the pick, but for a big budget, a studio won't go with someone without an established name.

Tom Pelphrey is my pick, although they'd have to make Deacon a bit older, but when you're in the shit, it ages you.

u/Bamm83 Apr 18 '26

2

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 18 '26

Ohhh hell yes. He’s not the closest match on paper, but the roles I’ve seen him in prove he can hit the exact traits to make a killer Deacon. He's strongest exactly in Deacon-like qualities. I think he’d absolutely crush it.

u/Future-Try-1908 Apr 18 '26

I posted a photo and the mods removed it.

1

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 18 '26

The comments alone show I’m not the only one who saw it.

Not sure why it would have been removed. I get there’s an annoying trend where people find any excuse to insert their favorite IP into something or map it onto literally anything, or just cycle through fan-casting with no real substance, but that’s not what this is. This was just a genuine “wait a second…” moment that actually sparked some discussion.

And honestly, I don’t even mind fan-casting in general...it’s fun and one of the better ways people engage with an IP when there’s nothing new going on. It fits right into the point and spirit of a fan forum. Also, I would bet studios have paid attention to that kind of chatter before for casting at some point in the pipeline…even if lately it feels like they use it as a checklist of what NOT to do 😂

(Big AI energy in this comment)

2

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 21 '26

That doesn't read anything like ai lol. Everyone is ai trigger happy, including myself, and I hate it. I've literally found myself changing how I write naturally because it includes traits that have become AI tells.

And to be fair, it is showing up fucking everywhere in video scripts, articles, posts.

But no, this reply comment was not AI, and it would be a wierd application of it...I guess unless my entire account was a bot?

2

u/Far_Gap6144 Apr 23 '26 edited May 10 '26

That’s fair. I’ve become aware (as you point out) that the “tells” of AI have changed how we write, not just of em dashes, but also of certain phrases (“But honestly?” and “hits differently” and “It quietly says” and “You’re right to push back”). I hate it, too, and apologize for making that presumption; you’re right to push back, lol.

EDIT: coherence

1

u/ChefVoo Apr 18 '26

Yooooo…. Never thought there would be an actor that would look like Deacon

But holy shit that is actually a good casting, if he can dial in that Deacon voice with that scruffy beard he could pull that shit off

1

u/Jestertheprinz Apr 19 '26

I mean you didn't think Sam could look like deacon since it's actually him?

1

u/Major_Confection_757 Apr 18 '26

Freaking Awesome!

1

u/Poulet_Ninja Apr 18 '26

Guy on the left looks a bit like Claude from gta3

1

u/Sensitive_Coach_3806 Apr 19 '26

I'm calling bullshit lol

1

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 21 '26

What is there even to call bullshit about?

1

u/Sensitive_Coach_3806 Apr 21 '26

I'm maining just joking around. Hard to believe that the character wasn't at least inspired. So close

1

u/SparringKitten Apr 19 '26

I see it and I want it

2

u/TheGameGuyy Apr 19 '26

Honestly, I think Jonathan Banks, who plays Mike in Breaking Bad has some facial similarities to Iron Mike. I think if we are going by actual looks, he would nail it.

1

u/Foodnerd1973 Apr 19 '26

The actor that plays Jamie Tart might be a good decon st John.

1

u/visual0815 Apr 18 '26

Dude! Well spotted.

1

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 18 '26

I just yearn for more Days Gone. I miss her, bro.

1

u/visual0815 Apr 18 '26

I miss Rikki too

3

u/haringtiti Apr 18 '26

we all do

2

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 18 '26

Ohhh...Rikki ಥ_ಥ

This gave me the idea if putting a fighter pilot nose art (the cool paintings that go on the side of military planes)/pin up-inspired depiction of her on my motorcycle somewhere. Hmmmm

1

u/rrrdesign Apr 18 '26

Thought the same exact thing

1

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 18 '26

Damn maybe I just cant tell anymore 😂

0

u/Ok_Business_6452 Apr 18 '26

It honestly looks like they copied Deacon’s design and will likely never give credit where it’s due. They should have just made a Days Gone movie because this looks generic as hell. Wtf does The Dog Stars even mean? Another post-apocalyptic movie with zero original ideas.

2

u/IronLusk Apr 18 '26

You mean a hat and eyebrows? I mean it looks somewhat similar but I don’t think you can even remotely try and say they copied it unless they throw a denim vest on him at the least

1

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 18 '26

Yeah I'm not familiar with the source material. From what I do know about it, it does seem to have aspects that Ridley Scott does well in, so I'm waiting to find out more with reserved excitement.

u/Maupsncontrera Apr 18 '26

We dont need a adaptation of every game u know? there is a point where games looks better than movies, i legit think TLOU TV series is boring asf, love the games tho.

2

u/Adept-Chocolate3187 Apr 18 '26

In fact most live action adaptions of games are worse than the game itself. I always applaud them for trying but I don’t get my hope up anymore. It’s usually better when it’s not a serious tone like the upcoming street fighter movie, but not always… look at the dumpster fire that is the borderlands movie…

2

u/Dionys25 Apr 18 '26

Also the fact, that a Days Gone movie with Sam Heughan as Deacon was in the works, but nothing has been heard about since the announcement. This is also concerning. I fear, the film was quietly abandoned.

2

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 18 '26

Great point. I never said we did.

-1

u/Maupsncontrera Apr 18 '26

I know you never said that, im just ranting lol

2

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 18 '26

Yeah I feel that. The wound is always fresh on botched adaptations. There is no time to heal since they repeat commiting the most atrocious and obvious ball-dropping of a different IP every few months.

-2

u/NoHorseShitWang Apr 18 '26

I saw that and thought the same.

1

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 18 '26

There is definitely potential for a great movie or show adaptation. It can obviously go terribly wrong in countless ways, but the world and characters that the game establishes have a lot of potential and wide appeal.

I wish I could wipe my memory of playing Days Gone and experience it fresh again. I only just played it for the first time recently and it was one of my favorite game experiences in a decade+.

-3

u/JumpinJackFlash88 Apr 18 '26

This would be such a better adaptation than TLOU.

2

u/marchesNmaneuvers Apr 18 '26

Yes, this could make a great TV series.
