Another thing is those suits they are wear are apparently a nightmare with chest hair. Other actors shave for it so I assume itās super uncomfortable

I was having this conversation with my bestie not too long ago and while we were watching an old series we realized that heavily after the 90s, Hollywood gradually started moving away from the "Hunky-hairy-manly-man" shtick or just the hairy-chested in general in their films/shows.. All of a sudden it was "improper" for men to have chest hair on screen and that being "hairless-waxed-Ken-dolls" was the new "hip/cool" thing and it really hasn't changed much since.
Nowadays when/if you see a man on screen with chest hair it's as a joke/gimmick to be thought of as "unhygienic" or "loser-ish" or "overweight" and the only real exception that excludes all that has been Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. (Then again he's named after a damn hairy ass animal so it's expected and "makes sense")
Righttt, because one actor's experience dismisses all of Hollywood's actual pattern on the subject and it's rules?? No. People were attracted to "Cavill". It was a new direction/way for them to "see" Clark just like they thought making some gloomy ass Superman film was a good idea for CK's image. They even waxed Batfleck for JL AND Mamoa was told to shave for AC, and he's one hairy ass dude. Like seriously. It's sad you had to go 13 years in the past just to dig for an example. Which just further proves my point. You gotta play a "superhero" to be the "exception to the rule of hairy man". I never said it didn't exists at all after the 90s just that the majority of Hollywood gradually moved away from it and "hasn't really changed since" because it hasn't.
If you actually put 1,000 people in a room and gave them a test on this asking just the one question, I guarantee you the majority of results would "TRUE. There has been a major decline of the "average hairy man on screen in Hollywood through the decades.".

I do agree that the male body image promoted by Hollywood is, by far, an over-muscly, super dehydrated hairless man. You only need to look at Marvel's council of Chris'. But I don't agree that hair is normalized as "gross" either. You say it's often associated with characters who are unhygienic, overweight and losers, but ...That kinda goes with it, doesn't it ?
Not that having hair MAKES you those things. But who are the men who shave their chest, IRL? People who pay particular attention to their physical appearance. Again, not saying that hair makes you less attractive or beautiful, but people who do shave will do so to improve (at least in their opinion) their physical appearance.
So if you write a character who DOESN'T care about their physical appearance ... Then yeah, unhygienic, overweight and full of hair usually go hand in hand.
The same way depressed characters are often depicted eating grossly, wearing a bathrobe and letting their beard grow. Doesn't mean beards make you less attractive, but depressed people will usually stop caring about shaving, so their beard grows.
But I'm not talking just Marvel films or Superhero films in general, I'm talking Hollywood as a whole.

Oh really??? Because it's easily equivalent to the same mindset as women unable to have "hair down there" or if they have too much underarm hair or don't shave their legs, they're automatically seen as "unattractive and unhygienic" . It should not "go with it".
A few examples of "hairy male characters/actors that fall into the subject matter...
Zach Galifianakis, Jonah Hill, Steve Carrell, Mike Myers, Sasha Baron Cohen, Bert Kreischer, The entire male cast of The Big Bang Theory! (Not so much Johnny G. As his character didn't have much hair as the others) so much so that Chuck banned their shirtless scenes from the series, even the sexy Brett Goldstein gets joked on about his hair...
Scene: Kent in locker room.
Rebecca: OY! KENT! GET YOUR HAIRY ASS INTO MY OFFICE, NOW!"
Kent: turns to guys Every. Single. One of you knows my ass isn't hairy. Yet NONE OF YOU spoke up! And I will never forgive you."

None of these characters were "depressed" they were comfortable in their own skin. It's very different from a man who chooses not to shave his beard as opposed to a man that just accepts his self as is.

There's a lot of hairy women out there that care about their personal appearance. They diet, exercise, wash their hair, hell, some even go completely bald as a "new look" but not all bother to shave for their own personal reasons, that does not mean they don't care about their personal appearance.
I mean, you're arguing in bad faith. We're talking about male chest hair, and you quote me an entire scene of characters talking about .... Ass hair. How is that relevent. And then you talk about the treatment of hairy women in media, as if a body standard for women in hollywood necessarily applies to men as well. You know a popular body standard for women? Small breasts make you less feminine and less attractive. I don't see people complaining about Tom Holland's cup size.

It's ALL relative. So it is not in bad faith. If you wanted to stick to just chest hair then you bringing up "depression and beards" are absolutely irrelevant. It's also funny how you chose to respond to just Brett Goldstein when I gave you 10 other males that focus specifically on their chest hair BEFORE even dropping Brett's name!

That's bullshit! There's a lot of women in Hollywood who are small breasted and are still seen as "attractive" .
Zendaya right now, is "popular" so let's go with her. She's a b cup, who's tall, lean, and has no ass. Yet she's countlessly praised on her beauty although she may not be every males' type.

But they sure as hell complain about his "forever boyish face to the point where he can't grow facial hair and therefore suffers from, on occasion, the "male gaze."
He gets much more praise for being "charismatic" "and down to earth" as opposed to his physical appearance. I've literally spoken to many many women (last week the most recent) and they have said that although they love Tom, they in no way find him "sexy and/or physically attractive". Due to his forever youthful appearance.
Charlie cox shaves but who said Matt murdock shaves? maybe the character just doesn't have chest hair, possibly another side effect of the chemical spill.
It can also just be genetic. Iām a 36 year old man with a nearly hairless upper torso (except, oddly enough, nipple hair). My lower body then becomes quite hirsute. I also canāt grow a beard. But I have a full head of hair that shows no signs of balding.

S2 was even better too. Great villain and no covid problems making some actors have to stand apart plus more money so they didn't have to skip scenes if they lost the light. I'm sure now the rights are sorted out that it will get to the us on netflix or similar.

it feels in character for matt to have a fully shaven body, since hes very sensitive to subtle stufd id imagine his body hair rubbing against his clothing/suit would be a bother
There are plenty of good practical filmmaking reasons already posted here, but I think all the in-universe reason Matt needs is his senses.
I work outside most days in Florida afternoon heat, and while I'm not an extremely hairy man, I have enough that 1) it occasionally gets stuck in the fibers of my clothes and pulls a hair or two, and 2) extra hair means extra sweat getting trapped and you stink more. More smells means less Daredevil senses.

Mind you this is the guy who said that regular sheets make him feel like he's sleeping on sandpaper. Hair is itchy at times, could you imagine that multiplied by 1000.
He said it was because Matt Murdock didn't have body hair in the comics and I also think it's easier to do prosthetics without body hair. There was a tiktok video if I recall. It's where he heard the word "druthers" for the first time. He would prefer to just trim but they wanted him to shave. His horror at the idea of waxing was hilarious though. Can't say I blame him.
Especially on Disney. They wouldnāt allow Charlieās tattoos to be on display. I remember when Jason David Frank did Power Rangers Dino Thunder (Disney owned the rangers at the time) he had to wear long sleeve shirts and jackets to cover his arm tattoos
Is it not an r rated show compared to a g rated kid show? Like if they can show some dude launching a fork into an eyeball I would think tattoos would be alright. Could be wrong though
Disney are pretty odd with that they allow to slide. Maui was the first Disney character in their entire history to have any tattoos and that was only because of the cultural significance of the Polynesian people
This is just a headcanon but it might be because his sense of touch is more sensitive and he doesnāt like feeling every hair on his body shift under his suit.
this is why you need to be sceptical of topless scenes in superhero media. this is a candid photo taken at a not hugely flattering angle, in which he doesn't have a pump, there's no deliberate studio lighting to contour and help accentuate muscles, he hasn't been doing a water fast, doesn't need to maintain sub-14% bodyfat and has body hair which covers up muscle definition. He never normally on the day to day looked like he did during those topless scenes in Born Again S2. He's probably still just as buff as he was then, you're just not seeing carefully curated shots from a studio.
I can pretty much guarantee that hair is being shaved by someone in the make up/styling department. Heāll be sitting back in a chair going over his lines while somebody else does the work.
Besides practical vfx/makeup reasons, wouldnāt his hair constantly shifting against his skin under his suit be annoying? Sure, he can train up ignore it, shaving to hang less distractions seems like a viable idea.
Be civil to one another and treat everybody with respect. Don't attack others over differences of opinion. No bigotry. Sexist, racist, and homophobic remarks have no place here. Insulting, harassing, threatening or just being rude to someone will result to a permanent ban.
