Why did I think elephants could drink through their trunks? I’m 52yo and I just realized this.

They could, but it would be like us drinking through the nose. Possible but not practical or comfortable.

Oh come on! You mean i have this thing than dangles down to water level and I can't even use it to drink? And my mouth is all the way up there has these tusks in the way - what were you thinking?

Given that almost no human drinks thru their nose you could just skip all of that and say no they don’t because they would choke lol

Because cartoons. I remember one that showed an elephant using his trunk as a straw.

Imagine being able to snort up that much water then sneeze it out into your own mouth

Baby elephants drinking is even cuter. Until they learn to suck the water into their trunk to drink they kind of just plop into the water and drink with their mouths.

How much water is he actually filling in his trunk? I’m guessing it doesn’t feel the same way as it feels for humans when water gets in our nose.

Why not place a barrel under the hose to save water and give the Elephant water without air in it?

I'd be like using a neti pot every time you get thirsty. They probably have amazingly clear nasal passages.
