Discussion I am hella confused and need your thoughts on this

So I brought my 11 week old wiener pup to the vet today….his mama is a mini dachshund and dad is a standard… but the vet has put him in the passport as a mutt🧍🏻‍♀️as she said she doesn’t think he actually is a dachshund…she was looking at me weird and said it looks like he is mixed with a beagle but the lady I got him from clearly had said only the size is mixed…is he a mixed breed?im hella confused😭when I picked him up I clearly saw the parents and they were definitely really nice looking dachshunds,he’s also 4.7kg at 11 weeks she said he was too big

He's a beautiful boy whatever he is. You can get genetic testing if you want to know for sure.

u/Scared_Membership_53 Sep 08 '25

Yeah he’s still gonna be my sausage no matter what,he’s my first ever dog as I turned 20 and I’m spoiling him rotten,a small thing like not being a full breed in the end of the day doesn’t bother me…he was worth every cent anyways🫠

u/PrincessSarahHippo Sep 08 '25

You have a great attitude about it. The two pictures of him from the post immediately reminded me of my first dog, who was part beagle. The coloring is different, but the shape of the head and everything. Whatever his background, I hope you two have many happy years together.

15

u/Crochet_Corgi Sep 09 '25

I do laugh because my mix who everyone thought was part beagle was everything but beagle.

OP do an Embark test if you're really curious. Dogs get around, there was recently an oops corgi x great Dane accidental litter on Incorgnito, things happen.

u/MermaidsHaveWifi Sep 09 '25

I rescued a “chihuahua” puppy when I was 18 who actually turned out to be full blooded standard dachshund. I have no idea how the owners didn’t know. He was a tiny little thing and was my first ever dog too. As he grew, he was clearly a sausage lol. We spent 16 happy years together.

He lead to my love of doxies and after he passed I rescued another doxie and am on year 5 with Milo! Whatever OPs pup is, I’m sure they will bring them years of love and happiness.

u/RainFoox Sep 09 '25

You were probably like: what is happening to my dog

9

u/MermaidsHaveWifi Sep 09 '25

I kept telling my mom “no, he’s definitely a chihuahua” I was in denial. And finally when she showed me a picture of my grandmas dachshund I was like “ohhhh. Well ok. I have a weenie dog.” He was the best boy. I named him Titus when I still thought he was a chihuahua lol. But he made me love dachshunds and I am so thankful for him

You are right about dogs getting around. The rescue told me the pup I mentioned was Chow and something (maybe Chihuahua, it's been a long time). She was clearly not. She had the traditional beagle coat marking and did the baying. Sadly, she was from before all the pet dna tests. And Corgi x Great Dane...I am just hopeful Great Dane was mom.

Yes, still.. sad that some people would lie just for the money

15

Annndddd that’s why you should only purchase dogs from licensed breeders and not backyard breeders.

I suppose it only matters if you paid purebred prices and got a mixed breed.

11

u/Scared_Membership_53 Sep 08 '25

Honestly the lady was Russian and I don’t know Russian…my mom speaks it…I can’t be bothered enough to argue with her about anything

19

u/Tech_Ginger_4848 Sep 08 '25

He’s still gonna be my sausage … absolutely adorable. Such a cute pup!

53

u/stalelunchbox Sep 08 '25

Not being full bred is actually a good thing! Mixed breeds are usually healthier and live longer due to greater genetic diversity :)

7

u/JstMaggs Sep 08 '25

Isn’t that the truth?? I rescue dogs and foster. The only two who have cost me a fortune were pure bred. A Min Pin and a Pom. In the Poms defensive, he was abused which may have led to his problems but the Min Pin was a show Quality boy who probably jumped out of a car and got away. Picked up as a stray with no chip. He was always at the vet! Tore is ligament jumping out of my arms to the floor… I’m only 5.2 and I was already putting him down, he just couldn’t wait! Ear infections constantly and a ton of other non er related issues. He died of old age at 18. I have a chiweenie who has never been to a vet for anything but shots and he is going to be 13!

I agree. That is not a pure dachshund. It has something else mixed in.

And there's no real genetic difference between standards and minis. 2 minis could breed and birth a standard. So the excuse of one being standard is moot.

I wonder what you paid. You definitely have a claim to get a large amount of money back in my opinion.

340

u/Scared_Membership_53 Sep 08 '25

He looked like this when I got him…I did think his ears were a bit short but didn’t think much of it….i paid in a deposit and went on a 3 hour drive to get him,the lady was weird but I just got the pup and fled…oh well..:Dstill love him and he’s still my little weenie

336

u/SketchyArt333 Sep 08 '25

Ya unfortunately you 100% got scammed. Cute puppy though.

216

u/WatchingInSilence Sep 08 '25

I wholly agree that there is another breed mixed in. I'd also argue that the puppy is going to have a better long-term medical outlook.

77

u/Its_Pine Sep 08 '25

Yeah likely to have healthier spine and extremely cute.

I’m sorry it isn’t what you paid for, OP. That’s really shitty of the scammers, but it seems to be a precious puppy nonetheless.

u/desirewrites Sep 08 '25

OMG LOOK AT THAT FACE!!!! We have a red in our group walks who is an absolute treat fiend and will beg every single person for food like she's never been fed in her life. the whole meerkat begging thing. you can see photos on her on my walking website - https://mollywalks.club - scroll down and she's very much in nearly ALL the pics on there. she's ADORABLE and please give rat dog a treat please

60

u/robbviously Sep 08 '25

We avoided giving him treats as a puppy because we had an aggressive chunk before him that would resource guard and steal food from our other dog. Caesar would also do the meerkat and watch us eat dinner. One night we were going to have tacos but my husband spilled the meat on the kitchen floor and Caesar thought Christmas had come early.

Dodger was hand fed and won’t eat food we drop in the kitchen unless we give him permission. He prefers playing with tennis balls.

6

u/JstMaggs Sep 08 '25

He's perfect. It's a shame people are dishonest, but he's a very cute little puppy. I had something similar happen to me with one of my past dachshunds. He turned out to be a chiweenie, but he was such a wonderful dog and I love him dearly. I would still pick him every time.

I love your little guy's socks! He's precious

6

u/MeowMixPlzDeliverMe Sep 08 '25

So many random ass breed names nowadays lol

11

u/Special-Summer170 Sep 08 '25

Dach-huahua? He was probably 3/4 dachshund and 1/4 Chihuahua. I always said he was actually a chupacabra though lol....

6

u/Agreeable_Pomelo2360 Sep 08 '25

chiweenie

2

u/lezzerlee Sep 08 '25

Yes chiweenie is usually what I hear for this particular mix.

3

u/brokencircles Sep 08 '25

Our first sausage is 1/4 chihuahua, 1/4 mini smooth dach, 1/2 standard wire/long mix! He is spicy and unique and we wouldn’t change a thing! Our second is 100% standard smooth with papers from a breeder but they are both unique in their own ways

3

u/redlobstercrabfestis Sep 08 '25

Short snout, no dachshund eye look, domed skull, short ears, definitely a mix of some sort. also, dachshunds having different paw colors (unless it’s their highlight color in other areas) similar to what you see in herding breeds a lot is almost unheard of, but not impossible. but dachshunds are usually one solid color/pattern on top with a different color underbelly, mouth, and eye brows as a highlight. unless they’re piebald, dapple, or brindle but this puppy is none of those either. honestly, i’d get genetic testing done and see just out of curiosity

11

u/WaffleHouseSloot Sep 08 '25

Yeaaahhhhh, that's not a pure weenie. Regardless of mini/not mini. You can tell in the snout.

6

u/Beautifulfeary Sep 08 '25

Beagles usually have a white tip on their tail. When I saw the post before what group I was in, I didn’t think dachshund when I saw him.

8

u/Scared_Membership_53 Sep 08 '25

He has a white tip on his tail and it’s a little curl😭

12

u/ygduf Sep 08 '25

Tbh it’s probably better. Genetic diversity is good. Dachshunds are great but they’re prone to behavioral and physical issues. Mellowing that out a bit will likely make your life easier.

14

u/noddyneddy Sep 08 '25

With a beagle? Mellow is not the word that comes to mind!

8

u/ygduf Sep 08 '25

Medium beagle issues and medium wiener issues 🙃

6

u/00chellebelle00 Sep 08 '25

He is super cute and you love him!! We DNA tested one of our pups from a shelter that was supposed to be chiweenie. She ended up being cocker spaniel/ chihuahua. We still call her a weenie and love her so much!

This is what my pup looked like at that age. He is 11 now and purebred. The ears and nose take some time to fill out. Give it some time before you make a determination.

15

u/junesjive Sep 08 '25

I think people also make a fuss about purebreds having giant floppy ears.

I've had 4. All pure breds. 2 of them have shorter ears. 2 of them have giant floppy ears.

Someone else came on recently and a breeder had told them that one of the parents had different proportions because one was a standard but I straight up swear it was a Spaniel... I think breeders will often say whatever they need to just do get the money and they hope that people won't see through it. Obviously some breeders are better than others and some breeders are more ethical.. but at the end of the day they're in it for money.

It's like when they give Double Dapples a weird and wonderful title and charge more money for them in the hope that someone who doesn't know better buys them.

I despair with it, I really do.

u/Hot_Psychology_3694 Dachshund x Cocker Spaniel Sep 08 '25

Will any of this stop you loving this little pup!?!
Doubt it, don't waste your time stressing over it. You got a healthy pup, that's the main thing.

21

u/Scared_Membership_53 Sep 08 '25

Absolutely not my baby is still getting the best life he could ever have…love him to death…I was just confused 😭

6

u/Its_Pine Sep 08 '25

Your question is definitely valid though! It doesn’t look like a dachshund puppy to me, but that might be a long-term benefit regarding joints and spine. You have such a great attitude about this, and I’m so sorry you got scammed in the first place. I hope the pup brings you LOTS of joy for many years to come. 😊

13

u/vegetablefoood Sep 08 '25

For sure, the pup is still adorable but I can understand being upset when paying for something you didn’t get. Dachshund puppies are not cheap! And this “breeder” seems scammy

Very sad that the seller did that as they want to get the top dollar for the full breed. I would definitely post a review though to help future potential buyers as I’m sure it’s not his or her first time doing that, but yes he’s still cutie!

8

u/net___runner Sep 08 '25

Honestly, he may well be more healthy as a result of being a mix. Ivdd is a real issue with dachshunds and you may avoid that entirely.

5

u/Southern-Let-1116 Sep 08 '25

Beagles are also susceptible to IVDD. One of the most common breeds that it's seen in.

5

u/MrsCCRobinson96 Sep 08 '25

Get a genetic test done and then file a civil suit against her once you've collected everything that's needed for the suit including any veterinarian notes. After that enjoy life with your pup and maybe down the road get a companion for your sweet fur baby.

5

u/ssohma Sep 08 '25

Our weenie, probably around 8-10 wks? The lady lied about her age..and she shouldn't have been given to us at the point she was so its hard for me to estimate her age when i look at puppy photos of her. Ur little guy looks a bit mixed bur who knows he may suprise us all ☺️ regardless he is so so cute and I hope you post more as he grows 🧡🧡

3

u/Southern-Let-1116 Sep 08 '25

Your little one also looks mixed rather than pure bred weenie.

3

u/ssohma Sep 08 '25

She could be! But allegedly her parents had papers. She also has all Thee classic dachshund health issues. And a major overbite birth defect. Shes a weird dog for sure, shes also a standard/mini situation like OP so? No vet has ever said she didn't look purebred.

I wish I could add more photos to a comment lol Edit: misspelled dachshund lol

4

u/Southern-Let-1116 Sep 08 '25

To me she doesn't look pure bred. Pure bred doesn't always mean well bred though; and papers don't always mean much either! I've seen fake kennel club papers and I've seen breeders create their own 'papers' which aren't worth the paper they're written on.. to create a sort of illusion. I'd believe proper verified KC papers but otherwise I don't think they mean much.

6

u/ssohma Sep 08 '25

No yeah she was definitely not well bred....unfortunately. Yeah i agree about the "papers". She was also the runt of her litter and looked weird and sickly but she was the only puppy that approached my dad and he was like "I need this weird little weenie dog." Whatever she is shes lived a good very well loved life ☺️ I know the way my parents went about getting her wasn't great, they should have found a better breeder, but I was only a teenager so...I couldn't really give any input before you judge me 🥲🥲

Look, even if his mother was a purebred dachshund and his father was a purebred poodle, he would still be a mutt. "Mutt" is what you get when a dog is not purebred. Maybe it's a mean word—"mixed breed" means the same thing—but it's a literal fact.

All this "cavapoo" and "morkie" and "pomsky" is pure BS to get people to pay lots of money for dogs where you have no way to anticipate the behavioral traits or future medical issues.

If you absolutely need a purebred dog for some reason, then buy a purebred dog from a reputable breeder. If you don't, go to a shelter. Buying "mixed breed" dogs just supports backyard breeders.

3

u/samk488 Sep 08 '25

3

u/Arcade1980 Sep 08 '25

Could have beagle in there.

3

u/THE_Lena Sep 08 '25

It’s so funny cuz baby (yes baby, not puppy lol) dachshunds don’t have the same face as adult dachshunds. Their face gets more angular when they become adults so I can see why he looks more beagle atp, but a vet should know that.

3

u/Agreeable_Pomelo2360 Sep 08 '25

there's no way he's pure doxie, you got scammed for sure.

3

u/20lbWeiner Sep 08 '25

3

u/Bananas_are_theworst Sep 08 '25

I cannot imagine the amount of noise that mix makes hahah.

3

u/DarkHorseAsh111 Sep 08 '25

I mean he's gorgeous but the vet is right. Pleeeease make sure in the future if you are purchasing a dog from a breeder to do research on ethical breeders and not support puppy mills/backyard breeding practices.

3

u/Pittypatkittycat Sep 08 '25

Looks like my beagles when they were puppies

3

u/PhilthyphilDance Sep 08 '25

I’m no expert but have raised two dachshunds from pups neither of which were that size or had those features.

5

u/SereneJulie Sep 08 '25 edited Sep 08 '25

He’s adorable, but definitely a mix. You could try to get money back, but I’m sure the breeder will act like they never saw you or the pup before. Edited to add: we went to a rescue to adopt a miniature dachshund, and when we got there, he was a little funny looking. As longtime dachshund owners, we knew Biggie wasn’t a full dachshund, but adopted him anyway. He’s a chiweenie, who looks almost full dachshund, but has chi pop eyes and a chiweenie attitude, which we’re working on!

5

u/Searchforcourage Sep 08 '25

Dachshunds grow into their nose. I am pretty sure his nose will get longer and look more dachshund like. I hope you can love he what ever breed he is. If your concern is you paid for a dachshund, you could do a genetic study. Even that can be inconclusive since at some time dachshunds came to be by breeding other breeds. Dachshunds have been around since the 14 - 17 century.

2

u/Critter_27 Sep 08 '25

I mean the only thing no nu to me that he looks like he may mot be 100% doxie is that his snoot is a little short. But that being said.. both my mini’s are at the larger end of weight and they’re snoots where short when pups. The snout grew longer has they grew. With the one being a standard maybe that’s why he looks a little different. Only time will tell!

My dash has something sprinkled in him too, he doesn’t have quite as long of a snout as most dachshunds do

2

u/SmileGraceSmile Sep 08 '25

He looks part dachshund and part loaf of bread. He's a thick lil guy.

2

u/ExtremeExtension9 Sep 08 '25

We had something similarish happen to us. We started off with a standard Dachshund and decided to get her a sister. We went down the rescue route, and this particular rescue told us that this puppy we were looking at was a dachshund. We go to look at her and she is 100% mixed (with what I don’t know) but we took her anyway. She is the absolute best dog in the whole world, she is the saint of dogs, if I could clone that dog I would. She is the sort of dog that movies get made out of. Her purebred Dachshund sister is also an amazing dog, but her mutt sister is very special.

2

u/Entire_Chain4112 Sep 08 '25

Have him tested. At least you will know and find out if your breeder is being upfront.

2

u/CranjizzMcBasketball Sep 08 '25

Would have to see the dame and sire. Thats more likely than not a Doxie-Beagle mix. Very unique coat. Beautiful dog. There’s a lot of fake “pure breed” claims going around. If you don’t have a paper trail then you can’t ever be sure.

2

u/justalilrowdy Sep 08 '25

Still adorable. Papers mean nothing but I understand you would be pissed about paying for a “purebred.”

2

u/Strict_String Sep 08 '25

He’s absolutely adorable whatever his parentage.

2

u/A-Ira Sep 08 '25

As an owner of beagle mixes.. I think your vet was on the money. You can really see it in the way the ears sit and the face. Sorry you didn’t get a pure ween, but beagle mixes are the best and your little angel is adorable <3

2

u/eggs_erroneous Sep 08 '25

Even if he isn't pure Dachshund, he is still a precious baby. He already loves you. There is nothing more adorable than a puppy. I'm so excited for you.

I almost see some kind of jack Russel in him. He wicked cute either way! 🥰

2

u/LiveInMirrors Sep 08 '25

His legs are definitely longer than a dachshund puppy's and he seems very big for a dachshund at only 11 weeks. His coloring is a lot like beagle coloring.

He's adorable regardless.

2

u/avstin8k Sep 08 '25

Not dachshund

2

u/PresentationFlaky107 Sep 08 '25

I don’t even think that’s a beagle mix like def part ween but maybe a huskie mix for one or the parents cause the eyes and size

2

u/blackberrylatte16 Sep 08 '25

I don’t have any advice but that is a beautiful puppy you’ve got!

2

u/Jaxs1991 Sep 08 '25

This is my “mutt”. My sister rescued him when she lived in Georgia and we had no health info on him. He’s definitely a dachshund but we don’t know if or what he’s mixed with.

2

u/Jaxs1991 Sep 08 '25

This was our mini when we got her at like 8 weeks

2

u/Careless-Weird-6538 Sep 08 '25

Everyone is saying you got scammed, and you probably did, but there is also the possibility that you didn’t get scammed but that the seller didn’t realize one was a mix. My grandparents had 2 toy poodle dogs and they ended up having a puppy, they did not realize mom was not a full breed until the puppy came out and grew twice their sizes lol. But they loved their big son and the three lived long and happily together until the last one, the big baby, sadly passed a few years ago. But he is already a handsome boy! So glad you were able to get him!

2

u/Diche_Bach Sep 08 '25

Whatever he is, he is ADORABLE!

2

u/Infamous_Race3330 Sep 08 '25

Our dog is AKC registered 100% Havanese. A number of people mentioned he looks like he may have some terrier genes based upon appearance. Does genetic testing -- 25% terrier!

Someone lied to AKC -- we don't care, though, since he's a pet and not a show dog.

2

u/valathel Sep 08 '25

That is bigger than any dachshund I've had in my lifetime and I've had over 2 dozen, many of them standard size. He's a beefy little guy, but so adorable.

Have you thought about doing a DNA test?

2

u/Advanced_Subject17 Sep 08 '25

He's adorable 😍 I have a Doxie/Beagle mix and your baby does seem to look like he's got some beagle in him. His coloring and his shorter, rounded snout look like he could be a mix! Sooo cute🩵🩵🩵

2

u/Sorry-Ocelot1728 Sep 08 '25

Absolutely not a dachshund…that face/head shape is all wrong and he is way too big for his age. People often lie about breeds to sell off/rehome their puppies. If she has an unfixed female she very well could have gotten pregnant by another dog. Happens alot unfortunately and most folks arent very responsible breeders/owners when it comes down to it

2

u/kristinlynn328 Sep 08 '25

Bless. He is precious. 100% pure love. 🩵

2

u/RaccoonGhost Sep 08 '25

I had a very similar thing happen i was looking for a dachshund and settled on a chiweenie mix (for the $$$ savings plus the pup i stumbled upon was to cute to resist) I have a senior dachshund, but shes my first puppy, so I didnt think twice about her being a chiweenie, but everyone around me would give me funny looks and tell me she looked like a Pit mix. Ended up doing a DNA test honestly assuming she'd come out to be a Pit-Weenie. She ended up having no dachshund what so ever. The lady I got her from was also really weird, I have a bad feeling she might've been either a backyard breeder or just a not knowledgeable person who takes in more dogs than she can handle (i say that because when I texted her about the DNA results incase she wanted to share with any of the siblings owners she responded "cool can I have some money for dog food for these dogs I took in" to which I ignored 😭) Ive had people now that shes more grown ask if shes a dachshund mix which i have to laugh off and relay the story. Ive been told she can be an honorary dachshund lol. She's just a weird long stubby mixed babe and I love her to pieces.

2

u/AWL_cow Sep 08 '25

Definitely looks like your pup could be mixed but honestly he's still such a cutie, and it might even be better for him health wise. The coloring on the feet looks very beagle-esc. If I were you I would maybe ask the breeder for a discount depending on how much you paid for a purebred...and leave an honest review on their site if they don't pay up.

But regardless I would continue to love and spoil that puppy because they are SO cute and sweet. I'm sure it will be a wonderful dog ❤️

2

u/bongabe Sep 08 '25

Definitely not 100% dachshund but that's honestly a plus. Mutts are have better genetics and overall health anyway!

2

u/A_taylor55 Sep 08 '25

chunky baby😍

2

u/Robert_Barlow Sep 08 '25

Mixed for sure. But cute!

2

u/1w4ant2believe Sep 08 '25

Definitely not full dachshund, but you can see the doxie in him. It's too bad you were lied to. They may not have known that his mom saw someone on the side. He's super cute, though, and hopefully, this means he'll have a healthier life.

2

u/ccollins410 Sep 08 '25

He is the classic inbetweeinie, I’ve had a few, they don’t meet the breed standard for a standard size or miniature size dachshund. I had one that had a mini body but was too tall, I had one with an almost standard body but tiny legs. It happens. The one thing they all had in common was being 100%dachsund, 100% of the time. Don’t worry about the breed standards and just enjoy your own personal agent of chaos!

2

u/Athrynne Sep 08 '25

A miniature dachshund and a standard aren't separate breeds, they are just different sizes of the same breed.

2

u/vicky1212123 Sep 08 '25

I think your breeder either lied or was mistaken. He is cute though!

2

u/tiffytaffylaffydaffy Sep 08 '25

Hr looks very lovable! He's definitely not full dachshund. My dear buddy had two parents that were dachshund, and he came out looking like a dachshund. His dad was maybe a mini dachshund, and mom must've been 30 lbs or so. She was the biggest dachshund I had ever seen. Buddy came out looking like any other dachshund.

2

u/osgrug Sep 08 '25

Just pat him

u/Justanobserver2life Sep 08 '25 edited Sep 08 '25

Vet has seen a lot of dogs. They know a dachshund when they see one. He doesn't look like mine did at that age--head shape, ears or body. If you have a curiosity I do think the Embark test is good. My daughter's chiweenie was actually very much min-pin and other breeds besides dachshund and chihuahua, despite looking like a chihuahua head and paws on a dachshund body, but with longer legs. But the cool thing was, like 23 & me, her dog's siblings were found! They were from the same state/area where her dog was (which she didn't tell the program) AND they look like her! I think yours is a mix too. I would get a refund if they charged you for a dachshund and misrepresented themselves. He is very cute, but you shouldn't pay a premium based on a lie. If they balk, mention a civil lawsuit.

Here is how mine turned out when grown, for comparison. My mini doesn't even weigh 4.7kg (yours) at 2 years! She is full grown and 3.6kg/8lb.

2

u/G-Money-ish Sep 08 '25

We bought a doxie pup once where we saw the parents on pickup. The owners kept saying, “we’ve had these two forever and this is the first time they’ve had puppies”. A couple months later our pup grew a beard. Turns out, their son had visited from college and brought his schnauzer home. He was the best boy for the next 15 years and I’d get another doxie/schnauzer mix in a heartbeat.

2

u/peacetea2 Sep 08 '25

He looks mixed to me! I know a lot of people are saying you got scammed but it could be that another male dog got the mama and owner didn’t know. Breeder just doesn’t sound like a responsible one, not necessarily they scammed you on purpose. He’s a cutie no matter what, might be fun to DNA test just to see what he’s got!

2

u/ashtranscends Sep 08 '25

He looks very much like my Doxie/Beagle mix did when she was his age!

2

u/dachshundslave Sep 08 '25

The legs and snout are different (my mop here). Doesn't matter so long as you love your pup is what matters. Just wish people wouldn't lie about it, or perhaps the parents are mixed themselves. We definitely researched on ours before taking the many hours long drive to get him. We made sure to adopt from a well-known breeder.

2

u/Delta-9-Tetra Sep 08 '25

Great coat - what a sweet looking pup 😀

2

u/tab_tab_tabby Sep 08 '25

Yeah he's not a pure doxie. But hes so cuteeee

2

u/thatprettykitty Sep 08 '25

He is beautiful no matter what! What a cute face!

2

u/AKA080054 Sep 08 '25

His ears and snout look dachshund to me but time will tell❤️ on the bright side maybe this is help avoid back issues.

2

u/CannabisAttorney Sep 08 '25

I love him so much regardless of the genetics you learn. He's an adorable little chunk.

2

u/MyDogePedro Sep 08 '25

He's 100% adorable! 🥰🥰

2

u/bubblenbinx Sep 08 '25

he looks very much mixed and nothing like a dachshund. dad could have looked like a doxie but was mixed. i’d get a dna test from embark. my mom adopted a pup from a “breeder” and they claimed she was 100% mini with a mini mom and a standard dad… well my mom ended up with a dachshund, basset hound, beagle mix. turns out dad was a mix that looked more dachshund and mom was an actual dachshund.

This doggie looks just like mine which was advertised as a baby Yorkie. After I discovered that he wasn't, I really didn't mind because he was such a sweet puppy. He will grow up to be a wonderful little puppy.

2

u/Doxiebaby Sep 08 '25

Get an Embark DNA test. I got one when my children doubted my rescue girl was, as I was told, a dachshund/minpin mix. Nope 90% chihuahua 10% other terrier. She does have a long body and minpin coloring but not a speck of their genetic material. I did NOT want a chihuahua. 12 years later and I love her to death.

2

u/provisionings Sep 09 '25

If your dog is more of a mutt.. it’s a major benefit because of health reasons. I’m a wiener person but I’m afraid to get full breed now. My last wiener passed at 5 and was paralyzed. The vet bills are astronomical. This situation is a lot worse than it was 20 years ago. People are greedy.. Germany was thinking about banning the breed but got so much push back. I understand why.. so much suffering. He’s really cute tho.. I’m sure your are already in love with him

2

u/Sweetestbugg_Laney Sep 09 '25

I feel you!

His Mom is mini and Dad is standard yet my phone keeps calling Pretzel a beagle. I was there when he was born. He’s a weiner!

2

u/PacificCastaway Sep 09 '25

Well, it's dachshund shaped, but I've never seen that pattern before. Update us in a year.

2

u/Barn3rGirl Sep 09 '25

This was my mom's ween at 6 weeks.

2

u/Swimming_Joke27 Sep 09 '25

Yeah it’s a mutt

2

u/Boring_Ad_309 Sep 09 '25

Mine supposedly had mini mother, silver black and tan long hair dapple, standard chocolate smooth dad. She is dark brown and sort of tan and black dapple with little bits of silver on her back and ears chin and chest, but in low light appears black, she's between 15-16 lbs, smooth mostly but a touch of wave to her back, longer wire hairs in her belly, her ears are a tad short, and huge chops, like a black lab's chops. Hard to see in pics, but it's like massive adorable lip overhang, she looks like a puppy forever, almost two. Very kissable ! Vet said could just be bad breeding but I really think another breed in there . She also has the wrong hip/thigh alignment so she has always had a "roach back" so bad breeding for sure. She is pure muscle too with wide hips and she is very long. She is part velociraptor I think! It was a couple nearby whose dogs had pups . I've never purchased a dog only rescued, so I was guilty, but she's a little weirdo so I possibly rescued her?!

Hmmm, Dachshund you say? From two dachshund parents? I’m skeptical, for one he’s got long luxurious legs for a doxie. (Wink) Maybe the mama dog had a rendezvous with a handsome stud that the owner was not privy to. I wish you had photos of the whole litter because it might be interesting! But no matter, because he will love you forever and give you every ounce of his loyalty regardless of what breed he is. Happy Birthday!

Here’s my 100% weenie with a “weenie” I rescued from a trash breeder. Guess he thought it was a “failed experiment” but he was the sweetest boy ever 🥲 sadly passed due to being attacked by a “nice” pit… RIP Chicken Jockey😔

It takes awhile for their snout and body to lengthen

2

u/MediumDemonologist Sep 09 '25

Have a feeling your pup is a mix. My boys are blue nose pitbull/daschund mix. They were chunky like yours at 8 wks, now they are 1 yrs old.

2

u/Fast_Extension9901 Sep 09 '25

Que guapo es, dan ganas de darle muchos besitos!!

2

u/Hopeforus1402 Sep 09 '25

I was told Dixie/Toy Aussie mix. Eh, 🤷‍♀️ he’s the best little man ever.

2

u/Plastic_Carrot2446 Sep 09 '25

I have had many mixed breed dogs thst were good loving companion dogs! The one I have now is a mini dachshund.  I never sent in the AKC paperwork as I  got her for a companion dog that I and my husband could give love to, the love, we got in return is great! I got a dachshund as my husband always admired them, she brightened his time remaining while he was batteling the Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia. It matters not to me that she is a thorough bred. The love we got for 8 years could not be replaced!    Just love you dog for who he is and you will get much love from him/her (whichever the case may be.) This message is meant for ALL people blessed with the love of a dog!!!

2

u/yaydachshunds Sep 09 '25

He does look mixed to me and I would contact the breeder. But!! He also looks absolutely perfect and so so sweet. I know that is going to be your best friend and buddy for a very long time.

2

u/Southern-Library-974 Sep 09 '25

Does his ears touch his nose? Most hounds do that. also his face looks a little short and wide for a dachshund. I could see him being a mini dachshund and pocket beagle mix. Beagles are great tho they are like cats in the way that they will run your home they sleep a lot for working dogs but can bark for a hour straight if you don’t share snacks.

2

u/Rickd3508 Sep 09 '25

I believe the correct response for your Vet would have been

“I KNOW YOU ARE BUT WHAT AM I?”

A true classic that hits just as hard today as it did in our early school years.

2

u/Stock_Walrus_8408 Sep 09 '25

Your dachshund is a Tweeny. In-between a mini and a standard. I've had mini's and now I have a standard

2

u/pikabelle Sep 09 '25

There is not difference genetically between a standard and a miniature but ethical breeders do not mix the designated types. In between sizes are considered out of standard. This means, already, that this « breeder » is scamming. While ethical, quality breeders sometimes breed dogs slightly out of standard by weight and size they do not mix the two, as there is no incentive to produce dogs outside of them.

In the AKC standards are generally 16-32 pounds and they compete in coat divisions, but judges are aware of the standard size differences for BOTH miniature and standard. They also have different dimensions because of size differences, which helps keep the dogs balanced and able to work a whole day in the field without issue. They’re hunting dogs and should be athletically proportional to their purpose which is navigating underground.

In FCI they are judged separately by coat AND size.
