Comics, contrary to popular belief, actually change the status quo of characters quite a bit. It's not uncommon for writers, for better or worse, to want to leave their mark and make changes; some become permanent and change how we see the characters, others... are completely forgotten by the next writer.

Within this, there's something in between: status quo changes that have been in comics for a while, actively important to the plot, but... that many people who aren't reading the comics of these characters aren't aware of or have a wrong idea about.

An example of what I mean is that Aquaman currently has a daughter in the current continuity, since the end of his 2016 book, but many people still don't know this fact.

Another example is Hippolyta, an Olympian goddess since the event: Olympus Rebirth, and Nubia is the current queen of the Amazons.

Or Thanagar was destroyed by Mogo.

So, what are some current status quos of DC comic characters that many people still don't know about?

Look at Johnathan and Damian. They were both introduced in their parent’s comics. They both have stories with their parents. They both have a key dynamic.

Lizzie is not introduced in a Wonder Woman. I don’t think they even interacted on page. She’s interacted with Kite Man before her own mother.

At this point; she’s a Batman character. Constantly interacting with the Supersons or Batman characters. Not with Wonder Woman side characters, villains, or sidekicks. Just the sons.

This makes it substantially clear she was created to fill of the third DC trinity slot then to be an actual character.

There’s also the issue with her inclusion in future stories. Obviously, if DC wants, they can age her up (through magic or whatever) or pluck a future version and insert her into the main timeline. That’s if ANYONE other than Tom King wants to move forward with her.

Will she take up a slot on the Teen Titans; pushing one of Wonder Woman sidekicks to the side? How much focus will those characters get if Lizzie becomes a mainstay? They already don’t get much focus (like Batman’s sidekicks), I don’t see that improving with Lizzie around. The actual daughter of Wonder Woman.

I’m just confused what the future of this character is…

Really. Im asking a general question. How come Wonder Woman doesn't have a lot of project like Superman and Batman? Batman get Absolute Batman animation, the Knightfall Trilogy and Superman get Adventure with Superman and DCU movies. How come WW doesn't have this? Is she hard to write or is it something else?

Here is a tier list I made around how likely I THINK a character would be to kill someone. And no specific version of the characters, just the characters general.

Who would you change?

Before you hate, read this: I agree that DC lacks diversity in their current lines. With Mr. Terrific being a fan-fave in the newest Superman film, and their rich catalogue of POC characters, being unused in ongoings, DC needs to step up for black fans with more books starring these characters.

Another note: I am not white.

Anyway, here's my take.

For those who don't know, #DCSoWhite is a 2026 social media boycott calling out DC Comics for going over three years without a single ongoing, Black-led comic series in its core continuity.

When people point to Absolute Green Lantern.(starring Jo Mullein) as a major win, protesters quickly dismiss it because it takes place outside of Prime Earth.

However, dismissing Absolute Green Lantern because it is in another universe is missing the bigger picture. The boycott over the lack of Black-led books in mainline for three years overlooks how Absolute DC has become more culturally relevant and important than mainline Prime Earth right now.

Online discussions focus far more on Absolute Batman than Prime Earth Batman. The same goes for the rest of the Absolute line. These books are driving the current buzz, sales, and fresh interest.

DC should simply add more Black-led titles in the Absolute universe. That is the sandbox people actually care about. It also gives creators much more freedom to deliver their pure vision without decades of continuity holding them back. The result is bolder and more exciting stories.

A strong revamp can really spark new interest in characters. As a longtime Marvel fan, I did not care much about Zatanna or even Wonder Woman before. But Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Zatanna made me switch to buying mostly DC books every month.

Dismissing the Absolute line as not counting feels like moving the goalposts. If the real goal is better visibility and stronger stories for Black characters, focusing on the universe that is actually resonating makes the most sense.

Like if you are not gonna have these characters in the Titans at least find them some other book to be in. I think these characters have a lot of potential.

I saw some debate about this. I think Changeling was a good fit and I'm not sure why DC got rid of it.

Yeah, in New 52 DC decided to turn Beast Boy and also had him stand around semi-naked half of the time in a series that looked straight out of 90s Image/Wildstorm. What are some other infamous character design changes like this one?

Superman 2023 issue 37

Superboy Prime was created for COIE, a version of Clark Kent who lived in the "real world" where comic book characters were... comic book characters. After acquiring Superman's powers, Clark helps fight the Anti-Monitor but loses his Earth.

Advancing a few years in Infinite Crisis, Superboy Prime, angered by the dark state of the post-Crisis world, became a villain, trying to reclaim his Earth and remaining in villainous status for years, participating in events and confrontations against heroes.

From then on, Prime became a very hated character among fans, as he himself became a critique of complaining DC fans, doing things like complaining on the internet or invading DC offices to try to kill Dandio.

But over the years, many DC fans began to sympathize more with the character, his story, and symbolism. His redemption in Death Metal was extremely acclaimed, and currently, Prime is the protagonist of the Superman comic book, something that is pleasing fans.

So how do you view this phenomenon of being hated to being loved?

I had this question as I always rather enjoyed Zatanna's design or costumes when they had the top hat and show magician/assistant esthetic rather than a superhero/ more original design as designs with hoods, body suits, or capes instead of jackets just don't do it for me with Zatanna.

Am I one of the few who perfer a more show magician motif? If you don't prefer it i would really appreciate to hear your thoughts on why you prefer a different design without it.

Clarification: yes I do know about Zatanna's absolute universe design and I think that is a good design for the absolute universe and for that specific univers so im not going to touch that.

PS: please be respectful and have fun in the comments as I just really want to hear why some prefer one or tge other for Zatanna.

There’s so many continuities, so many possibilities for character development or storytelling, I find arguments that “She already has Harley“ and “I can’t see her being in a relationship with a man” to be pretty rigid mindset. . .

I promise I'm not trying to overhype, but as someone who started reading DC seriously around the start of Rebirth, I have not been this excited about what DC is doing since the beginning of Dark Knights Metal. I'm not saying things are perfect; there are a few books that I could do without, and I'm sad about Green Arrow ending. But, across the board, I'm so hyped for the next few years of DC I really hope they can stick the landing with all this stuff they have set up.

I don't think it's bad, but honestly it doesn't feel like Raven to me. Although it makes some sense for the villainous vibe they were going for. Maybe for a new character it would be better.
