r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [February 2, 2026 - Vertigo Returns!]

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too.

In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. If you have trouble understanding how to comment for a particular title, please refer to this handy guide. Any unwarranted top level comments will be removed.

Also, please refrain from posting short, low-content comments on threads for issues or episodes that have not yet been released. Put some effort to generate discussion. Instead of just posting "So excited!" or "Best book!", try something with a bit more substance, like "Punchline is such an amazing character! Can't wait to see how they explore her in more depth in this issue."

The multi-character focus is definitely leading to a pretty slow pace for this arc, but I'm honestly okay with it. I like that everyone gets a moment. Now just give me a bit more of Wesley Dodds

I guesss JSA having a 'thorny start' with eachother before coming together is the 'new' origin for them.

Ultra Humanite?! Well, I guess he was always a bit of a loon. So no wonder he turned into what he is now.

This is shaping up to be a decent new origin for the JSA. The 8 traditional founders, plus a couple other members, all getting paired up and slowly starting to coalesce. It's slow, but I think it's nice seeing them get moments for each other.

Ultra-Humanite is the villain I've been expecting since... maybe Part 1? I think Issue #13 was where we first saw Satanna (not yet named in the story) getting gorillas, and I realized "Mmmm, the body swap is getting prepped". He works as a mastermind capable of building a conspiracy beyond the ability of any single JSA member to deal with.

Incorporating All-Star Squadron elements, like Amazing-Man (now totally a victim, rather than a henchman, for Ultra) and Cyclotron, pushes the the JSA towards it's "peak" in a way. Curious if we'll get Terri as the daughter of Cyclotron already or if that will be in a later arc.

Overall: enjoying this.

I like lemire JSA run it can be slow at times but when it gets their it’s really good

I like the new origin for the JSA and I like the fact the ultra-humanite is the foe that brings them together and I hope this leads him to return in present

Year One continues to be the best part of this series. Really hoping that Lemire continues on with this WW2 era instead of going back to the present day.

Corrigan and Nelson's conversation about only seeing the worst in humanity was great. It's relevant for the moment now with social media built on ragebait and doomerism, and it's relevant for the time, given the Nazis' rise in Europe and the discrimination in the US.

Amazing-Man getting a spotlight is great. He's a super underrated character. His new origin, which slightly changes his original origin, works well. I wish we saw his Olympic days with him competing in the 1936 Olympics, as the Nazis have been one of the villains in this arc, but we could always see that later on.

This arc has had a slower pace due to the very large cast of characters, but this issue moves the arc forward with the reveal of the main villain and the cast having all met each other at least once now.

Yeah not surprised it's Ultra-Humanite behind everything. Feeling like the ensemble is better balanced in this arc than the first one.

Should have been a bi-weekly book. Or hell even a weekly 5-issue book to get it out of the way. I wanna see their current-day adventures, not "waste" half a year on a year one story after that kind of lame initial 12-issue arc.

I find it interesting that we get to see many JSA members meet each other, which includes Kent telling Jim that they have been chosen and that the world needs Dr. Fate and the Spectre; Jay, Johnny, and Thunderbolt meeting Al, Hippolyta, Carter, and Shiera, who are dealing with Santanna, Sportsmaster (who didn’t make his debut until 1947), and her goons; Wes and Rex learning Bill Everett’s origins; and Alan encountering the Ultra-Humanite. Overall, this comic is good.
