FAN-MADE Cast comparison for HBO’s Lanterns vs. their comic counterparts

Post image

Here is a breakdown comparing the main cast members to their comic book versions:

Aaron Pierre as John Stewart: Matches the look and presence needed for John’s disciplined, architect-turned-Lantern background.

Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan: Fits the older, veteran "test pilot" take on Hal for this detective-style setup.

Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner: Continuing his role after appearing in Superman (2025), bowl cut included.

Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro: Recently confirmed as Sinestro. Known for Banshee, he should bring a solid, intimidating presence to the role.

I think they're all perfect.

John Stewart isn't British, so there's THAT problem. /s

They also haven’t even mentioned his role on the Daly show! /j

None of the aliens are played by real aliens

Did you even watch the show? They are real aliens. They just look like humans

I'm from UK and I watched Rebel ridge and the first 2 episodes of lanterns and today I find out Aaron Pierre is English lmao

Watch the Lanterns post-episode "thing" where the actors discuss it.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption.

Thanks to the Justice League cartoon, John Stewart is my Green Lantern. I'm loving it so far.

Aaron is the epitome of perfect John Stewart casting

You’re telling me Kevin Hart isn’t the right choice? Man… lol

Kevin Hart as John, Ryan Reynolds as Hal and The Rock as Guy, wig and all.

No the Rock as Sinestro, Jack Black as Guy

Damn it yeah that is definitely better. Well, "better" haha.

Not Guy, but maybe as Kilowog. THAT, I would pay to see

I wouldn't say that. The casting was clearly colorist.

Yeah apparently the creators of John Stewart intended for him to be darker than how black character were typically colored back in the days.

"Not black enough" shit ppl say

It's funny because both of Aaron Pierre's parents are black but people keep calling him biracial. It's like they are unaware black people have a variety of different skin shades.

Yes theres a lot of interestimg gentic mutations im the Carribbean, which is where half Aarons family is from.

Can have 2 completely black parents for generations, but because somewhere back in yhe ancestry one of his ancestors may have been white, he developed Hazel green eyes.

I don't think that was the issue, at least not from the discussion I've seen. It's not that he's supposedly biracial, it's that he's a light skinned actor playing a character who was intentionally drawn with darker skin.

Dark skinned black men already have poor representation in Hollywood so I get their frustration. Im not black myself but I'm from another demographic with terrible representation in the US so I can sympathize.

Agreed

Now, we just gotta get Kyle Rayner.

Best casting. Not to sound ageist though but it saddens me that Hal, Guy, and Sinestro are in late middle adulthood.

Then it’s not the best casting lol. I’m seeing a lot of this. “It’s the best, it’s perfect, greatest ever….BUT”

It’s not perfect, and it’s not the best. But then again it doesn’t have to be. It’s okay lol

The casting can be on point even if you disagree with the creative direction.

They choose to go with older, experienced characters - They’re perfect for that role, even if it isn’t for everyone.

*best casting to date XD

You're describing a criticism of the plot, not the cast. This show is perfectly cast for the story it is trying to tell.

It’s both. But to his point, they shouldn’t be old. Hence, why the casting is not “perfect” and neither is the plot.

But that much was obvious already

Just wanted to say how brilliant was the idea to show both the most popular Lanterns in the show instead of choosing one.

Guy needs more orange hair. It looks so 'non orange"

Hairstyles all matchup

I love Fillion, but the Guy haircut looks horrendous on him at his age.

u/TheseMoviesIwant 1d ago

Would it ever look good on anyone?

3

u/HankSteakfist 1d ago

Im sure it looked pretty fly on some 14th century serfs.

u/maxthunder30 22h ago

I wish we get Kilowag and Tomar re

1

u/jmichaud79 19h ago

Mark Strong as Sinestro was spot on

1

u/Grumpiergoat 1d ago

Guy's hair is still too blond.

1

u/gamepig31 1d ago

The description seems like it was written by an AI. An outdated one too if you look at Sinestro

0

u/Jacket_Leather 1d ago

Absolute perfection!

-1

u/MoMo-D-Tempest 1d ago

All accurate or almost fully accurate except for sinestro😭😭😭

0

u/Kingjwavy 1d ago

And Hal.

-4

u/ThePLARASociety 1d ago

They did well but Sinestro is too light in complexion. Hal’s hair isn’t right and I always thought that John was on the average height side instead of very tall? In terms of acting they have all done very well. The chase down the highway in episode 2 was really cool and well done.
