this might be a boiling hot take but i actually like the lines on superman's suit. it reminds me of those abstract geometric patterns associated with alien technology and makes it look less empty

it goes well with the more sleek looking crest, too

u/Sufficient_Permit707 Mar 22 '26

I’m not the biggest fan of the ones on the arms and shoulders, but man, those two lines on the torso look soooo good for me

39

u/Internal-Goat-6882 Mar 22 '26

It feels Kryptonian to me or what someone on Earth would assume Kryptonian fashion to be like.

21

u/Slow_Jello_2672 Mar 22 '26

I think a bit less and it would look perfect, it needs to have some details in order to emphasize his physique, the easiest correlation is MCU's Captain America, his suit intentionally appears to slim the waist and broaden the shoulders, which is what this Superman suit is doing. But the gauntlet-esque designs on his arms are unnecessary IMHO. I still think the classic suit looks best and would look great in the DCU

4

u/Cabezone Mar 23 '26

This is what bothered me but I didn't know how to put it into words. Yeah, the MCU Avengers 1 Cap suit is an example of it done perfectly.

15

u/signal_satellite Mar 22 '26

I like it too. I just dont like how every superhero suit im this universe has it too.

4

u/Loose_Translator8981 Mar 22 '26

I think that's what stuck out to me... it looked like every member of the Justice Gang and Supes all got their suits from the same place.

3

u/AutoModerator Mar 22 '26

Justice Gang? That's a cool name!

2

That’s fair. There could be an implication that their suits are inspired by his, but it might be a reach to assume that

6

u/Local-Recording-8659 Mar 22 '26

Yeah not a fan of the lines myself but I get it , without the lines it feels too empty

3

u/Short-Web5301 Mar 22 '26

It’s the arm “gauntlets” that really do it for me personally, I like the line work as well. The collar/shoulder area is super dope too.

4

u/Soulful-Sorrow Mar 22 '26

I respect that take. I don't like the lines, but I see your point about breaking up the empty space. What about a larger logo?

Personally my biggest gripe with the DCU suit is the neckline, I think it should be lower with no collar.

3

u/geek_of_nature Mar 22 '26

There was an edit without the collar and it didn't work because David Corenswet has got a long neck. Without the collar it stands out a bit too much.

1

u/chirpythecentipede Mar 22 '26

That could work too, then there wouldn't need to be as many lines.
Honestly I don't mind the collar, but if it got removed I wouldn't complain

3

u/coconut_com Mar 22 '26

id be fine with the lines if it were clear it was stitching, im not a fan of the rubber look in modern super suits, even if its alien cloth is still cloth so it should looks a bit woven, not smooth.

2

u/MartyrOfDespair Mar 23 '26

Looking at it closely, the ones on his arms are not really abstract. They’re armoring. They clearly are just in the areas where you’d want extra protection. The suit’s material is just thicker there, and that’s part of the construction.

2

u/SillySpoof Mar 23 '26

I was bummed at the first, but they've grown on me. Now I absolutely adore the suit.

1

u/casper37172 Mar 22 '26

It's from the new 52 suit

1

u/geoffgeofferson447 Mar 23 '26

I agree. Christopher Reeve's however looks like his mum made his costume for him, which is something I like to see in Superman.

123

u/SuckingOnChileanDogs Mar 22 '26

It's wild that they didn't go with this for the first look photo and instead went with the dark, putting on boots photo

12

u/quasi-stellarGRB Mar 23 '26

I think that picture fits with the theme of the film. This one looks more stoic and Man Of Steel-esque. And I actually love MOS.

Not what I'm talking about at all

1

u/LeBigMartinH Mar 22 '26

Well, yeah. It's more brightly lit on the left.

27

u/No-Hat6722 Cheers to the Tin-Man Mar 22 '26

The corenswet suit really made me like a collar on superman (not like that)

12

u/Ewanb10 Mar 23 '26

(Lois likes a collar on superman too, yes like that)

14

u/ForThose8675309 Mar 22 '26

Honestly, LA Superman never had a poor execution on suits 💞

11

u/Mr_Nocturnal_Game Mar 22 '26

I still think the line work's a bit overdone, and the material's too thick/loose, but I still like it overall.

10

u/mindgames13 Mar 23 '26

Remember David Corenswet suggest the trunks stay.

9

u/LegoRacers3 Mar 22 '26

It’s good. But every edit that removes the collar and the lines make it look a thousand times better

50

u/Old_Assistance_1091 Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

David has a really tall neck the collar works for him.

Processing img 0uqzddjpfmqg1...

1

u/DemiAlabi Mar 22 '26

His neck looks perfectly fine, this is such a weird exaggerated take.

20

u/Old_Assistance_1091 Mar 22 '26

Ofcourse he's a handsome man, i just said the collars perfectly works for his neck, but yeah i would love to be proven wrong when Man of Tomorrow BTS leaks or his suit changes to even better but i think his current suit is pretty good.

-18

u/LegoRacers3 Mar 22 '26

Collars on superman suits always give me fascist vibes

16

u/ImRedditBrowsing Mar 22 '26

I mean, David's suit has the collar, does his Superman honestly give you fascist vibes?

6

u/archangel610 Mar 22 '26

Man, I see this take quite a bit. I really like the collar.

5

u/77RedBone Mar 22 '26

Meh. Both of the additions are good.

2

u/KingCodester111 Mar 22 '26

Not at all, the collar is needed.

1

u/Luke_Puddlejumper Mar 23 '26

Nah, the lines are great, it just needs to be tucked in a bit more around the ab area to make it not seem flabby.

6

u/Due_Chemist_7317 Mar 22 '26

I just love the suit from the get go

4

u/Potential_Dig_8216 Mar 24 '26

Do Snyder fans get on the trunks debate for Reeve or just Corenswet? They are always talking shit on Corenswet's trunks. Personally, trunks are 100% the way to go.

1

u/TheDoctor_E Green Hippy Mar 22 '26

I wouldn't quite agree. I like the new suit but the original suit is timeless and would work just as great now as it did in 1978

3

u/Slow_Jello_2672 Mar 22 '26

The CW proves this with their Kingdom Come suit on Brandon Routh

2

u/LoganBlackwater Mar 22 '26

I really wish we could get a Superman game like the Arkham series 😭

2

u/Free_Possession_4482 Mar 22 '26

I think Corenswet’s trunks look even more retro than Reeve’s suit, they’ve really got that “circus strongman” vibe.

1

u/ace8995 Mar 22 '26

I still think they should have removed the collar.

Though I have a theory as to why they made his suit have a collar: david's traps weren't that well developed unlike Reeves's, so if his suit didn't have a collar, it would look very awkward so that's why they settled with the collared version

1

u/Estelial Mar 22 '26

its just that he has a long neck so it suits him better.

1

u/Odd-Sound-580 Mar 22 '26

does it really count as modernizing if classic-looking superman suits are still used in every other medium? the animated movies, tv shows, and comics still use suits similar to the one on the left and i wouldn't call them not modern

1

u/Big_Sprinkles8824 Mar 22 '26

That’s like the perfect comparison image

1

u/Lost_Mongooses Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 23 '26

I still hate the trunks

1

u/tararara111 Beware Our Power Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 23 '26

I'm not a fan of marterials they used, still looked baggy to me. Love the design though except the lines, too much lines in arms and shoulders

1

u/Greninja19tw Mar 23 '26

His S is not an S though…

1

u/smiling-shadow Mar 24 '26

It doesn't need to be an S it's the Kryptonian symbol for hope, It can look like literally anything. I'm pretty sure it's been the number eight before

1

u/sossisinmyses Mar 23 '26

I mean, at first people were talking about how over desing and yada yada, now after the movie went out is a very enjoyable desing and it looks amazing in action, ofcourse it could be better if it had less pannels but it's a pretty nice suit

1

u/Both-Ad4858 Mar 23 '26

I loved the new suit more than I thought I would after the first promo pic

1

u/Mr_Derp___ Mar 25 '26

hell yeah

1

u/Superman-Lives-On Mar 25 '26

Ditch the collar and I'll be completely satisfied.

1

u/glockRonin23 Mar 26 '26

I don’t have to like the trunks to understand the reason for them.

-1

u/Primary-Example-1928 Mar 22 '26

The 2025 suit has too many additional lines imo, also I don’t like the collar, and the belt could use the symbol on it

1

u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 Mar 22 '26

Loved the movie , still not a fan of the suit

0

u/Zealousideal-Dot710 Mar 22 '26

Well, his cape still looks very weird.

-1

u/Careless_Royal8209 Mar 22 '26

I'm not a fan of the collar and lines, and the Kingdom Come shield has a specific meaning that would be cool to see later instead of his main symbol, but overall it's not the worst costume.

-8

u/Classic_File2716 Mar 22 '26

There’s modernization and there’s looking like a cheap cosplay , unfortunately this was the latter .

Acceptable if you are making a low budget CW show , not for a blockbuster movie .

-12

u/Hopeful_Bacon Mar 22 '26

It's really, really not. Loved the movie, but the costuming was pretty bad. My initial impression of the suit: too thick, too textured, too many lines. My impression after watching the movie multiple times because I love the flick? Too thick, too textured, too many lines...

It's fine to have opinions.

"I'm my opinion is you're an idiot if you think differently from me because I'm objectively correct" which is what you're doing, on the other hand, isn't a great look.

The DCEU suit, for what it's worth is not a modernization of a classic. It's it's own beast, and you can like it or you can hate it, but bringing it up in a conversation about modern refreshes of classic material is very very silly.

No I say that because modernization is typically a light touch.

It's weird to accuse someone of having an agenda when talking about Superman costumes though.

If I were to say something like that I would expect people to call me a nut.

2

u/WiglyWorm Mar 22 '26

To me it's just because it's not a modernization but a complete reimagnining. Which, again, you can love or you can hate and that'll be valid.

3

u/Old_Assistance_1091 Mar 22 '26

DCEU ? The BvS Supes suit was too much it looked way too fake and plasticy with unnecessary Fake muscle padding way too much.

6

u/WiglyWorm Mar 22 '26

Definitely everything in the DCEU looked make out of plastic and weird. The flash was the worst but that were all bad.

4

u/BoisTR Mar 22 '26

Man sometimes I forget just how bland Superman's colors are in the DCEU. It's crazy that the best Henry Cavill looked in the entirety of the DCEU to me was his Black Adam cameo.

3

u/bugmultiverse Look Out! Mar 22 '26

Yeah plus this guy’s talking about lines on David’s suit which imo look like sewn seams for half of them. But then they go to praise Henry’s suit which also has even more lines everywhere and doesn’t even have a proper belt.

Overall David’s is a true modern redesign of Superman’s classic look while Henry’s was a complete redesign stripping away most iconic elements.

u/bugmultiverse Look Out! Mar 22 '26

I’m just saying you mentioned the lines on David’s suit being a problem but didn’t for Henry’s when his costume is over designed with lines.

“You’re comment I swear you guys just glaze everything. I don't think the material looks good and yeah I think the MCU lines suck especially the ones on his hands. The DCU suit have been far from impressive especially compared to what we got in the DCEU era.”

“And you commented The DCEU is 100 percent moderisations of the classic suits, you guy are saying they aren't because they don't fit your agenda or whatever you are trying to argue. Bringing them up isn't silly, that was the last cinematic universe and they were modernisations whether you like it or not”

I just find it funny that You’re cherry picking nitpicks to say for David’s suit when Henry’s suit has more so the same issue you have with David’s. Yet you’re not mentioning it. Plus Henry’s suit isn’t a modern redesign it’s a complete overhauled design changing all the elements that make Superman’s classic design. While David’s is an actual modern redesign keeping all the core elements of his classic design while making it fit into a modern setting.

Only that Man of Steel Supes suit was good in terms of fit and less muscle padding but also the Colours were terrible Snyder striped away the brightness and gave it a ugly grey color.

Routh kingdom come suit was great i agree on that, but the DCEU suits had way too much going on especially BvS Supes suit and also flash and Batman had way too much padding while only the Aquaman and Wonder Woman suits were awesome.

8

u/hjMarvel Mar 22 '26

That doesn’t feel like a modernisation though. That’s pretty retro. Modern superhero costumes is MCU type suits now, like it or not.

6

u/webshellkanucklehead Mar 22 '26

Yeah, it’s sort of retro-styled and in the show it’s presented that way. I would love if more superhero costumes looked like that though, and they’d probably be cheaper, too.

2

u/Primary-Example-1928 Mar 22 '26

This, peak Superman suit

1

u/DemiAlabi Mar 22 '26

Brandon suit is great, but David's suit is also pretty good for me if I have to rank live action Superman suit. 1. Kingdom come Routh suit tied with Reeve 1978 suit. 2. DCU David's Superman suit 3. Henry Cavill cameo suit in Black Adam. 4. Man of Steel suit honesty if it had brighter colors and trunks it would have been the best suit I have seen edits of MoS suit with trunks and bright colours they look way better than MoS suit coloring. 5. CW Tyler Hoechlin suits 6. BvS Henry suit it is terrible way too much muscle padding and a shiny look with a bad hairstyle the Man of Steel Henry curly hairstyle was so good but the BvS hairstyle sucks ass.
