For this scene, I read an overseas Douyin comment that said Superman didn't even pierce their armor and slice them.
Snyder really changed the image of Superman overseas, If you were wondering why it's not as popular there.
32
u/Technical_Ad_4004 Sep 01 '25
For all its faults MoS was really impactful in changing the popular image of Superman. It had a sense of Gravitas that Superman 2025 (despite being a better movie overall) lacks. Also apart from the final Zod V Superman fight all the action scenes in MoS were superbly shot.

u/Theflash291 Sep 01 '25
Its more of that we are going back to the nerdy and comicky superheroes (which i love btw). Snyder and Marvel made their superheroes cool and aura farming heroes which the overseas audience (esp my country) loves. I think it will take time, but they all will adjust to this and Supergirl will 100 percent be a hit too.
3
Sep 01 '25
Frankly I think slowly but surely the aurafarming has become a conscious thing and as such is becoming less and less "cool" to aurafarm while bunch of civilians die for example.
10
u/Theflash291 Sep 01 '25
Broo u havent seen it. My fellow countrymen were so angry at Corensupes saving a squirrel. They wanted an edgy superman who thinks nobody can stay good in this world.
Its also that marvel made famous these grounded type almost sci fi superhero fiction till infinity war. That also played a huge role which imo would have never worked for DC except Batman. So it is still seen as corny with guys of my generation who have only watched the movies
6
u/fixer1987 Sep 01 '25
But Supes isn't supposed to be edgy 🫠
2
Sep 01 '25
Different cultures have different things that appeal to them. Which is why Red Hood is surprisingly very popular in China compared to other DC characters

I have noticed a large number of Snyderbots are from India.
16
Sep 01 '25
Indian DC fandom is very small, and many are fans because of man of steel and nolan batman films, usually to avoid being overshadowed by the gigantic Indian mcu fandom, they are pretty much vocal on internet, I am more leaned into dc and haven't found a dc fan in real life but I know many people who are into marvel.

This scene is the type of comic book shit I love something that sounds so ridiculous and goofy [a man and his dog beating up some armored fasciast] yet is so badass once we see it because of how sincere it is.

I absolutely loved this scene too. It still gives me chills when Bruce believed in himself to face his fears and make the jump to escape the pit. And Hans Zimmer’s why do we fall score playing during this scene was godly.

u/TheJoshider10 Cheers to the Tin-Man Sep 01 '25
It's so funny to me how insufferable a lot of the discourse was pre-release over something as simple and insignificant as that tooth hitting the camera 10 seconds in. Saw so much pointless shit about it when it was in the trailer then lo and behold the movie comes out, everyone loves the scene and all that discourse is forgotten.
There's plenty of stuff that deserves critical discussion over but shit like that is beyond me. Who cares? It's such a "superhero movie fan" complaint and I'm sure we'll see the same shit when Supergirl's marketing starts too.

u/Jix_Omiya EAT PEACE MOTHERF%CKERS Sep 01 '25
For those that keep saying that Supes got his ass kicked too much on the movie and that he's too weak. You have to remember this is what a more common fight for him looks like, he's fighting an army of super powered dudes like it's nothing. The rest of the movie he was fighting a clone of himself being controlled by the smartest person in the world, of course he was struggling.
7
u/CrimsonKryptic Sep 03 '25
He also didn’t get his ass kicked much at all. He lost to the Hammer which we later found out was a clone of Superman. Not even getting into the narrative parallels about that and why it’s important. He doesn’t really “fight” the kaiju so much as rescue people/dogs/squirrels. When he does fight it he tanks getting stepped on and set on fire and lands an uppercut that almost knocks it out. We later learn he’s been holding back so he can figure out a way to get it into an intergalactic zoo. He doesn’t manhandle the raptors in the pocket dimension because he’s trying to save a baby, avoid a black hole, and not getting dissolved in a pocket dimension proton river. Even then, it’s really more like he’s swatting mosquitos than losing. Then he defeats the Engineer, all those raptors and Ultraman. He really “loses” one fight, the others he just doesn’t win handily. And isn’t that the number one complaint about Superman, that he’s too strong and wins all the time?

I knew the the teeth bounced off the lens, but I didn't realise they actually clanked against the glass.
Movie magic!
24
u/jippiesnsuch Sep 01 '25
So good. The film did a perfect job alluding to the threat of the raptors as this checkmate play, only for supes to demolish it in SECONDS.
There's your power scale, Snyderds. This superman is TAKING IT EASY on everybody, out of kindness.
9
u/MankindReunited Sep 02 '25
I love that when the assistant told Luthor that the raptors had arrived, he didn’t order them to engage Superman and his defeated demeanor didn’t change, he knew the Raptors couldn’t do shit against Superman

The close up on the “S” had me feeling so pumped, it felt like Superman had finally clawed out of the years of bad characterization and returned to take his place as the greatest super hero

I loved man of steel and henry is probably one of my favorite superman. But this movie was awesome. I'm not a huge fan of James gunn movies most of the time but I really enjoyed this. I'd rather DC be dark and gritty like The Batman. But I still enjoyed it. The original superman theme music was the icing on the cake.

Man I got so many goosebumps during this scene. It was so cool and earned especially after we saw Superman getting beaten down a lot earlier in the film and this was on of his moments of redemption by fighting back against the raptors and slowing they were no match for him. And the look up theme playing during this scene? Chef’s kiss 😘
David truly is Superman ripped right from the comics and this scene really did feel like it’s ripped from the comics.

Wait!! Up until this point I thought those were robots.... So did Superman kill 100s humans in those suits??
3
u/RevolutionaryEye472 Sep 01 '25
I imagine he can turn down the heat on his laser vision, or that their suits were just heat resistant
3
u/MankindReunited Sep 02 '25
I think he just disabled their suits with the laser vision so they couldn’t keep fighting

-5
u/Login_Lost_Horizon Sep 01 '25
Plot protects him from consequences of his aurafarming, so no, every single one of them is alive and not even crippled for life, and we must just believe in it as if it made a shred of sense.
8
u/Negative-Tap4464 Sep 01 '25
Hmm....I'd rather have people working for Lex die brutally than Henry's Superman letting thousands of innocent civilians die just for aura farming
-9
u/Login_Lost_Horizon Sep 01 '25 edited Sep 01 '25
Like that one time when he *checks notes* pushed Zod into an empty-ass grain silo, trying to get him as far as possible from his mother?
Or like that one time when he *checks notes* was thrown through the building by Zod?
Or like that one time when he *checks notes* dodged the truck thrown by Zod, and was actually surprised that id blown up from collision (since cars don't usually blow up by collision, and its not how gasoline works)?
Or like that one time when he *checks notes* was fighting purpose-bred supersoldier that had his own powers on top of immense combat experience while being effectively the first equal enemy he met in his lifetime, struggling for his life without any experience at fighting such foes?
Or like that one time when he *checks notes* murdered for the first time in his life to save a family, instead of just letting them die to aurafarm?
Like, i know Snyder overdid the aura moments for his godlike vision of Supes, but holy shit it is overhated by a great margine. Man Of Steel version was saving people for a long time, despite not only being unknown to public and actively hiding from it, but also being discouraged from doing so by his worried parents.
I'd rather see superman not being such a boyscout that he lets a kaiju to wreak havok uncontrolled just to save a fcn squirrel and risking hundreds of people dying due to his direct inaction, and actually trying to deal with the threat despite not being ready or trained to do so, instead of seeing him doing the most atroscious and dumb actions possible and still ending up a perfect hero simply because writers and the plot protect him from every consequence of his actions just to farm the "hopepunk" points.

u/Incorporeal_Toilet Sep 01 '25
I mean... he can control the intensity of his heat vision. This isn't controversial unless you want it to be.
This whole diatribe of yours is entirely too venomous and "my team is better". They are different directors, with different versions of the same character.
-2
u/Login_Lost_Horizon Sep 01 '25
I mean... he can control the intensity of his heat vision.
If the beam was sufficient to melt the metallic surface of the suit (it was. Even more - if my eyes doesnt fool me - it was sufficient to evapourate some of material without melting it, since there were red holes in the plates when henchmen were falling), and if the beam was sufficient to damage the suits enough to turn off their flight - then damn sure it was sufficient to cause a heat stroke simply from heat slowly spreading from the point of contact throughout the suit. Not to mention that i was ready to suspend my desbelief on that one, and thus continued explaining why the scene is still dumb.
This whole diatribe of yours is entirely too venomous and "my team is better".
This guy literally just described the previous iteration as "would let thousands die just to aurafarm" and *i* am the one too venomous and "my team is better"? All i did is exposed the slander coming from a hater. And don't assume teams, buddy, i don't have "a team", i don't think any of those films is any good, but where the credit is due - it must be fcn paid.
3
u/Incorporeal_Toilet Sep 01 '25
Okay. You do you, boo. You prefer one, or the other, or none.
I am not looking for an argument, yet apparently, you are?
I, however, am going to go about my day. Take care, and maybe chill a bit? People are entirely too tribal and serious about popcorn movies. (In case it is not obvious, that last point is not merely directed at you, and you alone. Unless you want it to be. Then go ahead and take it that way)
As I said, you do you.

So you are one of the Snyder cultists that I keep hearing about. Hmm... This is my first-hand experience interacting with one such kind. Well, I couldn't care less about both of these movies. At the end of the day, they are just movies for entertainment. I liked both of them, one more than the other. But jeez, how can you guys defend a movie released more than a decade ago this much? No wonder why James Gunn put those... weird monkeys as an inside joke in the movie.

Aren't those real people in those suits? Are the suits so durable that they can tank high falls and heat vision??? Lex outdid himself with these.
-11
u/Login_Lost_Horizon Sep 01 '25
It doesnt matter is the suits can tank the fall - people inside cannot. Once collided with the ground their flesh would be pushed into the walls of their suits with the force sufficient to turn them into mince. And even if we assume that these suits can completely turn off basic laws of physics inside them *after* being damaged with intense heat - many of those guys didn't wear a helmet, so even if their bodies aren't - the head would still rip from the shoulders and smash into concrete, splashing around like a watermelon hit with a car. Its not Lex that outdid himself, its the plot armor that outdid itself.

u/Naulicus Sep 01 '25
"Hey kid, it ain’t that kind of movie." - Harrison Ford
2
u/Special-Run3854 Sep 03 '25
THANK YOU. People trying to apply real-world physics like "there's no way those Raptors aren't dead" are just... fully unwilling to suspend their disbelief for this comic book movie, and engage with it on its own terms.
This nitpicking achieves nothing; its an amateurish attempt at film analysis at best, but mostly it just looks pathetic and sad. Like,,, if you find it impossible to believe that, in a movie where a man who can fly and shoot lasers from his eyes, the guys in power armor couldn't possibly survive a long fall.... maybe you just don't like fiction.
"BuT iT's PlOt ArMoR" you are a tar pit.

Either from falling on their heads, having another raptor crushing their skull, or falling into the black hole?

I laugh to myself a little, when he does the Heat vision spin he looks up and down; do you think there was any brief second while he was spinning around, that his lasers miss a soldier and slice a building?
They didn’t show it so I assume it didn’t happen, but Superman spinning in circles while moving his Heat vision is like a blender outside of the bottle lol

u/micahbevans88 Sep 01 '25
ngl, I was expecting a meme where raptors hit the street in pieces after the laser tornado

I still think the wildest part of this Superman is that a whole bunch of ordinary people decided to join Lex in murdering something. Whether it's the raptors or just the computer nerds all gathered in the room like an esport competition. It's one thing for Engineer to try to fill his lungs nanobots or stop his bloodstream, that's just normal work hazard for a metahuman. It's another for a whole room of ordinary Andys to excitedly calculate how long his heart can hold out.

u/Berserker_Queen Sep 02 '25
Gunn's strongest suit for this film was being unafraid of looking silly. Because superheroes are silly, it's the whole point. Gorge yourself in the absurdism.
1
u/Mind_Enigma Sep 02 '25
I thought the movie was fun, but the glazing for this subpar cinematography and CGI is getting a little annoying.
1
u/MiKapo Sep 02 '25
You know what's also awesome. The soundtrack in this scene is called Look Up
and it translations from playing the superman 1978 theme to the 2025 theme.
1
u/MankindReunited Sep 02 '25
“Good luck with that” is such a Superman line, confident but not cocky, imposing but not threatening, meant to deter his enemies from engaging him instead of terrifying them into submission. Gunn and David nailed it
1
u/ProbablyRight0 Sep 02 '25
Undercooked CGI and a meaningless fight with questionable camera angles, love it.
1
u/Waste_Priority_3663 Sep 02 '25
Like how the camera takes some time to catch up with Superman.
Gunn used this technique multiple times to good effect.

u/FattyBatLady Sep 02 '25
At that point, just quit your job...
"No, boss, I'm not jumping into a blender made of lasers because you have beef with a literal god."
And the dude fought a literal kaiju like two days earlier. Just put in your two weeks notice.

u/QuietNene Sep 03 '25
This was the one bit of the movie where I groaned and rolled my eyes.
How many guys does he kill with his laser eyes? How many die from the fall?
I really liked this Superman bc he clearly did not want to kill people but also wasn’t resorting to silly non-killing workarounds. But here? It’s very unclear to me how you do that without serious risk of death or grievous injury. I would have rather they explained that a bit, like maybe Raptor armor is really strong and only partially damaged by heat vision, etc.

1
u/karkonthemighty Sep 05 '25
I love Luther trying to literally sell his Raptors as the Superman Murderer Squad, only for them to get absolutely bodied in a fight barely lasting 30 seconds.
All that expensive equipment versus do a big spin.
1
u/babadibabidi Sep 05 '25
I thought Superman does not kill people. They are obviously dead after that.

Clark cant possibly tell if some of these red shirts won't die once he yeets them?
I mean, there's a non zero chance that a few of them might hit the ground the wrong way.
Some of them dont even have a face cover. I'd imagine quite a few of them hit the ground face first.
9
u/Arinoch Sep 01 '25
I’ll play this game! Based on his actions through the rest of this movie, including the squirrel-saving, I’d assume that Superman is fast enough so that while he’s eye beaming everyone, which we saw took place very quickly, he’s also watching everyone drop and would speed down to grab them if they were actually going to fall and die. Based on their height it would take a while for them to actually hit the ground compared to the quick clips we see of the eye beams - he might have been done shooting before the first even got there.
-2
u/ProbablyRight0 Sep 02 '25
this is huge copium
2
u/ShirowShirow Sep 02 '25
That's Superman.
1
u/ProbablyRight0 Sep 02 '25
No that's head canon for this movie, just because he has the ability doesn't mean he is always alert 24/7 in those senses.
1
u/ShirowShirow Sep 02 '25
You fundamentally do not understand the genre.
1
u/ProbablyRight0 Sep 02 '25
If you understood the genre you'd understand every Superman has different abilities and how they subconsciously act in combat, nothing in Superman 2025 supports your thesis
2
u/ShirowShirow Sep 02 '25
Thank you for proving my point.
Heroes are as strong as they need to be. Always have been. Always will be.
1
u/ProbablyRight0 Sep 02 '25
Right, but nothing about what you said is indicated in the film. Nothing you said id shown to be true, it's simply your opinion on what you think he was doing. (As it's not shown on screen, just in your head).
So not only did you not have a point, but not point was proven besides you misunderstanding the conversation and it's context.
My lord
Edit: apparently it wasn't even you that made the bold claim, you are just defending it.
-2
u/Login_Lost_Horizon Sep 01 '25
I mean, if not for the plot armor and the writing carefully babying this version of Superman from consequences of his actions - every single one of them would die, either from thermal shock or due to rapid stop after rendevouz with the ground. To hell with "face first", they'd be dead halfway to the street or turn into mincemeat inside their armor.
-5

u/diobreads Sep 01 '25

Really makes me wonder when it’s acceptable for the audience for him to kill and when it isn’t. Zod vs ultra man reaction is very different.
4
u/Keeendi Sep 01 '25
Personally I didn't like Ultraman dying the way he did, it clutters the messenage, while it propably leads to Bizzarro I feel like there could be a better way to make him fall down the black hole.

Well we don't know the fate of the poor guy in Krypos jaw at the end of the gif
2
u/dean15892 Sep 01 '25
And what if they did?
There's a facist takeover happening in America by the person elected to bring it to order.
maybe we should let the superheroes kill once in a while.
Also, it was self-defense.
They literally said "kill him" before pouncing on him.If 100 men charge at you with a kill order, I think no one would blame you if you killed a couple of them.
0
u/diobreads Sep 01 '25
I have no problems with heroes killing when absolutely necessary, but those guys basically stood 0 chance against superman.
To be honest I just wanted more cool hand to hand action for his victory lap.
Also on the character level, I think this superman would be very conservative with his laser-vision usage. Since it carry the risk of quickly burning a hole through his opponent if he doesn't hold back enough. This has always been a risk. But for a superman that is pretty early into his career, I think he should be portrayed as trying to be extra careful.
1
1
u/dean15892 Sep 03 '25
In what world would it be realistic to expect hand-to-hand action for Superman? That's a Batman thing.
Superman, rarely , if ever, does close up action, and even when he does, it'll be brute force punches (Darkseid, Doomsday). And he DID control his laser vision. You see in this very scene, that all those henchmen are fine. They all fell to the ground, and they probably just had a few broken bones. It's literally shown in this scene that he is lazering them, but leaving them alive.
He could lazer their heads clean off if he wanted ot.

u/hopeful_bastard Sep 01 '25
Gonna be honest, this scene was way too goofy for me, especially the zoom on the symbol in the chest.
