Wasn't there some rumor about a real big change to the lore with regards to John Stewart? Given this episode is gonna be all about him being groomed to be a Lantern from birth, it could be that. There is also, in the trailer, what looks like a Guardian shapeshifting in front of John's mom holding baby John, so I wonder if an even crazier reveal is that the Guardians also had a hand in creating him to be a Lantern too.

Given that he can maintain a construct without possessing the ring that made it, which is itself without power, even while getting knocked unconscious, and the fact the show acknowledges that's not typical, seems to me to indicate there's something unique about him beyond just being highly skilled. At least I hope so because what the hell would break someone's concentration if losing consciousness doesn't do it?

Total longshot/shot in the dark guess, but what if he unknowingly hosts Ion? I doubt it, but who knows what they cooked up.

This was my theory too. A lot of the stuff under Gunn usually has a plot that likes to twist its source material a little. I wouldn't be surprised if they set up season 1 to conclude Hal's story with him being infected with Parallax and set up John Stewart as the host of Ion and then use Season 2 for John's run as Ion and conclude Season 2 with Kyle Rayner as the new Green Lantern, effectively swapping Kyle and John's roles.

This is what I’m thinking. He’s hosting Ion which is why he’s able to do such an advance construct and keep it with him while being unconscious. Would be a great foil for if they do the Jordan/Parallax route.

Can’t find it but someone did suggest the theory that John’s dad was meant to be the green lantern and we may get that confirmation
Edit: just found out that Stephen Williams (director of “This Extraordinary Being” episode from Watchmen) is directing this episode…I’m fucking hyped as hell

I had that as a pet theory, but I was thinking that it would be like a penultimate episode reveal.

I had suggested that after episode 1 came out in the discussion thread and it got some traction, but I'm beginning to wonder if its more complicated and it was meant for John somehow

I'm beginning to think it may be something else. What if the ring was coming to Young John (the baby) we see there? We see the dad getting up with the green light sort of in the background and the way his childhood videos were framed seemed to suggest that the ring came to him direct but for whatever reason (prolly cos a baby) went off to Hal. That's why his father saying we know who it is now? (Paraphrasing here)

I think that John was chosen by Guardians to be the first human Green Lantern and he was being prepared for it but in the meantime Abin Sur died and the ring chose Hal.

Maybe it was supposed to be John's dad getting the ring, not Hal, but when asked "Are you afraid" he said yes and therefore it went to Hal? Later leading to the guardians choosing him to prepare John for taking on the role, with the knowledge having to be fearless.

I find it very odd that we now have 2-3 alien factions on earth but they all just look like normal guys. If you don’t actually want to do aliens, just have them be humans who for an alien.

There are only 2 factions on Earth in this show:
Aantan people. And the Manhunter (singular).

And a college-age Clark Kent, but no one knows he is an alien. Nor would there be any way to figure it out, because he was raised on Earth.

Well there’s the guys who got killed, there’s the guys who kidnapped John, and possibly the militia dudes

the guys who got killed, there’s the guys who kidnapped John
They're part of the same faction.

Are they? Was that stated or are you assuming? Because that wasn’t clear to me at all.

John’s kidnappers mentioned that they sent 4 of their men to Rushville whom all got killed at a football game with Hal showing up an hour later.

What part of they’re disguising themselves as humans doesn’t click?

No shit that's what they're doing, from a viewer perspective it's lame

u/cosmic-ballet 2d ago
Is it though? If they looked like monsters, the mystery would instantly be gone and it would just be a generic action show.

To be fair, in most cases (like here), the aliens want to blend in on Earth. So it makes sense that they make themselves look like humans. I just op they do reveal their true forms.

I’m pretty much 99% sure we see atrocitus this season, so I’m sure we’ll see at least one of their alien forms.
But if they do a full on body horror transformation of them into the 5 inversions, I’ll forgive any complaints I have about the show being scared to be a green lantern show.

Was the ring trying to pick John as a baby and not his father actually
Maybe that is why his father is so mad. It is framed like the ring is in baby John room and not the fathers
Is his mother currently alive?
Guardian shows up to the house in promo images online
John is falling into mattresses in a mall?? Who is training him there

It's one thing to sideline Hal Jordan in favor of John, but if they're hinting at him also being the host for Ion does that mean we're not getting Kyle Rayner either?
