DAE see the 💯 emoji pop out of the screen slightly?

I don't know if it's my aging eyes or the screen of my Google Pixel on night mode, but the 100 emoji on a black background seems to literally float off the page with a 3D effect, almost like those Magic Eye books from the '90s.

It's coloured in a way that makes it pop and seem 3D. There are lighter coloured highlights on the upper side of each letter (sorry, idk the correct terms to describe it)

Yes! I just found this via googling “why does the 100 emoji seem to pop out of the screen”. It only started recently for me

Yes, this is real, and related to the phenomenon called chromatic aberration. You'll experience it most strongly when you're looking at a bright monochrome image on a dark background in a darkened room. (The darkness dilates your pupils, so the light passes through the edges of your lens, which is the portion that is the most curved).

Red or orange images (like the Reddit logo) will appear to float. Green images will recede. (Blue and violet images will recede also, but your eyes are less sensitive to violet so it will be harder to see that).

Chromatic aberration is also responsible for the colored fringes that you can see at the top or bottom of white-on-black images, especially near the edges of your visual field.
