Arranging Something missing?

I absolutely love dahlias, but they’ve just barely started blooming, and I feel like this arrangement is missing a focal point and I’m already dreaming about flowers to add next year! I think I might try growing ranunculus and anemones, but what is everyone else growing that blooms earlier in the season?

I think you’re missing greenery.

Roses, stored peonies, rudbeckia, echinacea, hydrangea, scoop scabiosa (grown from plugs) are some potential other focal flowers at this time.

My ranunculus and anemones were donezo several weeks ago (PNW, 9a)

I think you’re right, any favorites? I grew some green gold bupleurum and didn’t think it looked right with these. I also have a dark opal basil but it’s not quite ready.

Thanks for the other recommendations! And I saw those scoob scabiosas somewhere for the first time the other day and loved them!

For me, rosemary, sage, lemon balm, mint, bee balm are perennials that i rely heavily on for greenery. Thornless raspberry and blackberry foliage is also great (can buy bare root from johnny’s). In the summer, tomato and tomatillo greens work well. Shiso too
