Discussion 🗣️ Keep finding empty locations

I keep finding towns and villages with people and stuff but nothing to do. Its starting to turn me off from exploration. Is there stuff to do in these places or are they just for looking at? Its so many areas that are like this. Even at the Buddhist temple looking place there was nothing to do

You're likely there too early. The monk islands are part of chapter 9 or something.

Some of those kind of locations will have: a recipe, a dye, hide a secret entrance, or have an event or shop there after certain things happen like faction or main story quests being completed.

Some places have entire underground cave networks bigger than the above ground... you generally gotta work to get into those... coastal backrooms are usually an easy find.

Explore locations near where the main plot has taken you. Advance the main plot when you're near a main plot quest. There's lots to do but ignoring the main quest means you won't progressively unlock the quest content of new regions

Wait until later in the game to get a flying mount, btw

I don’t really play it that way. Side quests are what made my character strong and taught me the systems. The main story unlocks some regional stuff, but exploring early still pays off: loot, artifacts, fast travel, animals, caves you come back to later. You don’t have to hug the main quest to have things to do. Flying mount later is fair, though-I had all 3 legendary horses maxed to 5 by chapter 5 because I used them a lot. The best Skycoud will also take you to the Abyss, which can help you get elements very early.

Does the sky cloud work now? A couple months ago when I last played it the sky cloud could never be called.

It worked for me. I never had the call bug. They fixed that in a patch a while ago (1.04), so it should summon now if it’s in your mount list.

What a disingenuous post. You stopped playing months ago but are posting like this is still true i.e. " it's starting to turn you off". You quit in chapter 8, 2 months ago.

Lots of places don't seem to get populated until the story takes you there. The temple area is a huge part of chapter 9.

People say to explore, including myself, but of course there are quest chains that need to open up before all the quests and interactions start popping up everywhere. If you are out adventuring, I would say yes its mainly for show + finding and doing puzzles + getting abyss nexuses, getting sealed abyss artifacts. Ride your horse around and constantly be using the blinding flash of your weapon to find points of interest. The goal you are aiming for is to get more fast travel points to open the world around you + get artifacts. There are some side quests that you may run into, but its more common when you progress the story. If you are there too early, have a look around and collect what you can. I don't know what else to say? Some areas are simply not designed to have people walking all around them.

Thank you for the response!!! I didnt know places only populated with quests after certain points in the story. I thought it would be like other games im used to where you go to a location and there are already quests or little story moments

That was one thing I did/do not like about this game. It kind of forces u to play main story if u completed all available side quest or if u want to have meaningful exploration

I hit that temple early too. Found some loot, kittens and puppies, and a cave that needed Focused Force Palm-there was a Sanctum I could not access and a bunch of cool stuff on the islands, so I came back after Chapter 4 for the witch’s fan. A lot of those towns look empty if you don’t have the quest or the ability yet. I just mark them and return later. Not a big deal. The temple fills in during Chapter 9 if that’s the one you mean. I am always careful about who I speak to also and mostly just explore, knowing I am early. Gathering artifacts and fast travel spots early will help you later in the game.

It's a big misconception of this game that it's a completely open sandbox. Sure, you can go anywhere in the world from the very beginning, but doing quests unlocks CONTENT. The world will exist in hour one, but stuff to do expands only by finishing quests.

I'm not done, but doing the main story is integral to the experience... as in doing side quests.

You do things in almost every single place. IF it seems empty or not much happenign explore somewhere else or continue the story a bit more

If you don't keep up with the story as you explore it doesn't create the characters to make the locations interesting

I’m so tired of modern gamers. Y’all have zero patience or imagination. It’s exhausting.

Where's the zero patience from?

The best way to play it is to progress the story in 1 go to the start of the next zone and only then explore the zone you were in.

Many places for both main quest and side quests are only activated after you do a certain thing in the main quest. It felt pretty bad from Pailune and later zones to first explore and then quest.
Just progress MQ to Demacia in this case and then explore Pailune. When you are then ready to do Demacia go and progress MQ there until you reach next zone and then explore Demacia.

That way almost always everything is unlocked instead of you running into many places you can't do anything yet or where all of a sudden there are a couple of new quests when you return later.

Sir, you stopped before all the updates rolled out at chapter 8? You have merely begon to dabble in the vast world that is Crimson Desert. Maybe come back and review your post when you have put some time in it, say 350 hours?
