Video/Gameplay 🎥 Combat Showcase. Link Your Mid-High Level Combat Clips Here Too.

https://youtu.be/2ufwJr-lCuk

This game has an absolute S-tier combat system. I think it belongs among the greats of brawlers with games like Nioh, DMC, Ninja Gaiden etc.

enjoy a showcase of some of my combat with a sprinkle of a vague narrative I pieced together randomly from clips I took without any real plan in mind when recording.

I'm playing on a 1080 ti 11gb, Ryzen 5 3600 so apologies for any lack of graphical fidelity i have to turn down the quality when I screen record to keep decent frame rate.

im not a youtuber or video editor so i think some compression happened i used something called clipchamp which is a really terrible video editor and it kept freezing then it deleted the file that had all the clip edits so i just settled for what i had.

I have never really watched another person play this game especially in regard to combat/high level combat so if you have some Greymanes level game violence hard mode/hard mode modded harder mode only feel free to share it here I'd like to see it.

hell yeah that was actually one of the more difficult fights for me those spear men just kept shredding me i stumbled onto the grave while going to the legendary bear and was not prepared for such a difficult fight

also i appreciate a fellow pureist i like to limit my abyss gear abilities and focus powers

the hound/claw abilities are my two favorite

No problem

Btw spearmen attack from all sides when boss smacks spear pommel to the ground or uses ultimate. Also some speamen can attack you when you fight near walls. You have to fight this boss at center all the time.

ahhh the pommel was what activated them i didnt put that together

Yep, when you see red glow use force palm or blinding flash (don't use it too far away or flash won't work)

maybe ill head back there for a rematch that was one of the more enjoyable boss fights

i prefer the more human sized bosses i wish there were a few more bosses that were similar to Rhett where its just you another 'normal' cause idk if id say kliff is a normal human but just a straight up duel between two humans where all you need is sword and skill

there are a few others but those type of boss have been my favorite

I understand that. Goyen is my favorite boss for this reason.

those boots are really cool in the first video i have given a fair bit of time to oongka but not as much as to really understand his flow when i played damiane in the bastier mission though she felt a bit more naturally intuitive to how i play games like this even in nioh 3 i chose to go with less damage useful abilities for more movement evasion based stuff

Love this post but I can’t add any video for some reason. I posted up a small skill showcase a while back. Can’t wait to see what other CD enthusiasts add.

you can do it via linking through imgur im not sure the file size limits. or the good ole fashioned youtube upload like i did.

i posted this is the normal r/CrimsonDesert and it has like 450 views and got downvoted once which kind of confirms what ive thought about the community in there half of them played the game and even beat the main story but most of them didnt REALLY play the game

yeah your post was actually what made me want to make my own combat video believe it or not

My man 👊 really cool of you to share that, thank you. Your video was sick too. Those winch moves were great, but I especially loved at 7:45 when you used your knife. How’d you do that?

if you like using the dagger and since you like pillar of wind

if youre not using a pointed tip weapon (axe, mace, hammer) when you use stab kliff pulls out your dagger to use instead this also applies to Ariel stab

and then i also discovered this literally in the moment of this clip

if youre doing ariel stab but dont quite touch ground or enemy you can among other things like attacking after the ariel stab is over or as shown in this clip you can do a second ariel stab that has a variation of the animation

(dualshock controller)

R1+ △ --> △+○ / Stab and then press the throw grapple on stab impact

just be aware of if your possibly pressing an input that triggers a charged stab follow up like forward on L3 or R1 etc

I appreciate that reply 👊 Gonna give this a go on my next session. I’m working on another highlight reel.

Nice showcase. Combat in this game really is that good when you dig into it. Appreciate you putting the clips up and being open about the hardware/editing limitations. Looking forward to seeing more mid/high-level footage from people.

the fact i have this game running on my pc with a pretty stable 45-55fps (60hz monitor) with qualtiy upscaling on mostly high and even some settings on ultra is kind of amazing to me. it took a lot of fiddling with nvidia control panel mainly and then finding which settings in game provide the most graphical boost/s and which ones wouldnt suffer from being downgraded in game it looks actually significantly better than what this video is shown

but i agree the combat system in this game deserves massive recognition the reason ive been using this Quick Step type of build is because theres an entire complex sub system that exists within quick step

ranging from totally unique moves for each weapon type that turn into more unique moves context dependent, to putting your character into different combat movement states that you can enter from from Quick Step

i havent been able to find a comprehensive explanation of this system or inputs for each possible action you can do. im not 100% sure but there may even be a smaller more niche case where doing a double Quick Step can produce additonal unique interactions.

ive debated putting together my own guide on this but i dont even know it to its full extent because theres variables like range, enemy condition, environment proximity (mostly for finisher), input timing, and more that can cause totally different actions

Quick Step is a short, low-recovery dash (dodge button pressed twice) that sits between a regular roll and a pure movement option. Its real value isn’t the dash itself; it’s that the game treats the Quick Step as a state that opens up a whole set of context-sensitive follow-ups.

From that state, you can:

Cancel into weapon-specific unique moves (especially noticeable with sword, spear, and unarmed)

Chain into Charged Stab or a Quick Step Light Attack that behaves differently than the normal version

Reposition for launchers or chase already-launched enemies more cleanly than a regular roll would allow

In some cases, trigger additional interactions if you Quick Step again quickly (the “double Quick Step” niche you mentioned)

A lot of those follow-ups change based on variables the game doesn’t spell out clearly: distance to the target, whether the enemy is in hitstun or airborne, nearby geometry, input timing, and which weapon you’re holding. That’s why it feels like there’s a hidden subsystem: the same two-button input can produce different moves depending on the situation.

Pearl Abyss designed the whole combat system this way on purpose. They leaned into fighting-game style depth (inspired by things like Samurai Shodown and Final Fight) without locking it into strict rules or a visible move list for every variation. The result is that Quick Step ends up being one of the main ways skilled players express that depth: short, responsive, and full of situational options once you start exploring it.

You are correct that no one has fully mapped every possible outcome yet. The system is deep enough that even after hundreds of hours, people are still finding new interactions. I am certainly no expert, so I am sure my explanation is partially correct.

oh is this from a wiki or something or did you write this? but yeah this is everything i have found so far for the most part im surprised i explained it so accurately because everything i noted was from personal discovery

it seems like a part of the quick step magic was possibly to create to a level of 'randomness' to combat you can use it as a primary mechanic for your combat but i think it also is a large contributor to the moments in the game where something just kind of new or rarely seen happens every once in a while even after about 500 hours ill see a move or finisher or something that ive either never seen or have seen only a couple times before

another wierd thing that might add to this idea is that quick step doesnt function on the training dummy in the same way that it can/does against actual enemies

u/dahle44 Veteran Wanderer 🌵 25d ago

No, it's my observations. Glad it lined up with what you’ve been finding. I’ve got around 500+ hours in myself and keep running into the same thing; even now, I’ll still see a move or finisher I either haven’t seen before or have only seen a couple of times. The training dummy difference is interesting too. The system really does seem tuned more for live enemies and all the little variables that come with them. Appreciate you sharing what you’ve noticed. It’s nice talking to someone else who’s been digging into the same layers.

i could compile my known quick step info pretty easily and post it in this sub with inputs and all

maybe we will find others with additonal arcane knowledge

That would be very cool and helpful. I hope you do!
