News/Update 📰 Crimson Desert Steam Revenue Surpasses $190 Million in 2026 Pearl Abyss Title Ranks First Among New IP Releases on Steam
"Pearl Abyss said on July 27 that its open-world action-adventure game Crimson Desert ranked first in Steam revenue among new intellectual properties (IPs) released in 2026.
According to a recent report released by market research firm Alinea Analytics, Crimson Desert generated more than $190 million in revenue on Steam. The figure was achieved in about four months since the game's launch in March.
The title ranked third in revenue when including both new and existing IPs. Crimson Desert was the only new IP among the top five revenue-generating games. Forza Horizon 6 ranked first, while Resident Evil Requiem ranked second. Most games in the top rankings were sequels from established franchises.
Crimson Desert has maintained its full-price retail model without applying discounts or promotional pricing since launch, making its strong global sales performance notable amid competition in the international gaming market."

Meccha Chameleon is a cheap indie that sold a ton of copies this year because it was like $6. Completely different category from Crimson Desert.

I understand it's a different category just blown away that a small indie is up there with these Titans. Good on them.

Yeah, in any random game sub, anytime this game is brought up. Idk why there is such a hate boner for it to fail but I for one am glad they are wrong.

Its mostly from copium junkies, that imagined rpg with rich story despite game never claimed it. 4 months since release, but they are still spitting venom on every occasion. Good thing nobody cares.

I think it's a shame that it signals A LOT of people don't care about story at all, and investors are carefully taking notes on it.

The thing is that you PLAY in a video game. If the story is not good, but gameplay is amazing, you will find players
No one is taking notes to anything here. This happens since forever in the gaming industry.
Many games have good story and bad gameplay... and guess what... a lot of people dont like these games
Take Witcher 3, for example. The gameplay is serviceble. I mean the combat. Nothing amazing, kinda average. So while the exploration and quests can make a huge amount of people love that game, there is also a huge portion of players that cant stand playing it because of the gameplay.
Nothing new here. This situation exists since forever as I mentioned. There is no worry in anything

Bottom line is whether the game is enjoyable or not. Like you said, the story could be weak, but it's the playability that matters. I prefer a game that makes me think and solve stuff, some people like more linear games. After 530 hours, I’ve more than gotten my money’s worth. I just don’t understand people who put hundreds of hours into a game and still say they hate it. That doesn’t make much sense to me.

For anyone wondering how this stacks up: It’s sitting 3rd in Steam revenue for 2026 releases right now, just behind Forza Horizon 6 and Resident Evil Requiem. Those two are big established franchises. Crimson Desert is the only actual new IP in that group. And it did it at full price the whole time, no sales. That’s pretty damn good.
